  • my dog can lie down, sit, dance and hi-five. and roll over is in progress thanks to this video! :)

  • this totally helped. now ny dog can roll over! still working on it, but we're making progress. thanks!

  • Just adopted a pup BC, need some tips!

  • You're amazing. My deepest thanks to you and Kikopup for refining my clicker knowledge. You really make a difference in my dog's life. Cheers.

  • @myhomeiswhereiam thanks so much for your lovely comment, I just love Kikopup too, she is amazing :)

  • Me gusta :-)

  • instead of going on his side my dog stands up and turns around to where the treat is! I've been trying for 3 days!

  • @anapao89 you could first reward staying in the down position, and then reward for the treat getting closer... if your dog stands up simply ask them to lay down again (but don't reward right away or your dog will think the trick is to pop up and then lay down again) then each time take the treat a little closer to where you want it to be, progress might be slow at first but once your dog gets the idea it should come quickly. make sure there are lost of treats and praise when your does good.

  • @zsianz1 Thanks!

  • Where can I but that clicker for quite a cheap price. Or just where can I buy it?

    Thanks

  • hi, how long did your dog take to learn this trick?? many thanks

    clare

  • holy crap ur dog can change colors!!!!!!

  • lolI'm doing this and he got it and then there was a bowl of water anf he tipped it over...he look at me like..that was reallly funny..now hes a bit scared to do it:(

  • @Delkolovr2 a tip for anything like this happening again would be to jackpot with the treats if there is ever anything that happens that spooks your dog while training. build up very slowly again and I would suggest you train this in a different area of the house to where this happened, use different treats and use a new cue word. hope that helps :)

  • @zsianz1 thanks for the tip!I will!,videos by the way!

  • thank you

  • This doesn't work for my dog. Instead of going turn on her back, she whips her head around and sits up.

  • that is brilliant! we just adopted a dog and she is loving the clicker. we have taught her so many tricks, but i was stumped at how to teach her to roll over. I like the idea of luring them like that. i was trying to show her what i wanted, but it wasnt working. this will be what we try tonight - thanks so much!!

  • i'm going to get started training Bella this trick! i've always been wanting her to learn it but never knowing how it's learned! thank you!

  • How much does Holly weigh? I was trying this this tutorial tonight and Dante (my border collie) was almost there, and he was trying, but couldn't quite make it. He is overweight (75 pounds or so) which I am working on to get his weight down, but I am thinking that maybe it is a bit too much weight for rolling over?

  • I think Holly weighs around 37 pounds. tricks are a great way to keep a dog fit but I agree that you need to be careful and start off slow, rolling over is a pretty physical trick so it might be a little risky for him until he shifts a little weight. Have you trained him to target something with his nose? I feel that this could be really good to get him moving about, like you could hold the target far away from him to get him moving about enthusiastically and could also build other tricks too.

  • is having a border collie hard. or do you always have to give them excerise

  • Having a border collie is great fun but you do need to have space to exercise them so living in an apartment isn't good for them, they like lots of attention and are not a good breed if you are out a lot. you need to spend quite a bit of time with them and they are super smart so like to be entertained. they are naughty if bored but super dogs when properly trained and exercised.

  • doesnt work D= when i bring the treat slightly behind the dogs neck my dog just sits down instead of laying down

  • firstly your dog needs to be laying down to start this trick, if your dog sits up then just ignore it and ask your dog to lay down again. you should be bringing the treat straight back towards your dogs butt for a start, not wrapping it straight over. pull the treat backwards and your dog should go onto its side and THEN start to move the treat over your dog. if your dog gets confused then go back a step and reward ANYTHING in the direction you want at first. hope that helps :-)

  • Yup my dog was in a lay down position i put the treat above my dogs nose then i move the treat to the side n she follows n wen i move it a lil further above her shoulder for example like on 0:57 ur dog slighly follows the treat to make it on the lay down position but my dog when it reaches tht part it sits back up n tries to reach the treat XD

  • yep, that is common but you have to keep trying and trying and going SUPER slow, like asking your dog for just an inch more at a time and really going crazy with the treats if they don't sit up. do you have a web cam? I'd be happy to sit in on one of your training sessions and try and throw you some tips if you are still stuck.

  • Thanks! i would love to try that tomorrow morning cuz its really late now! =) yes i have a webcam

  • cool. if you do want to do the webcam thing then you can download Skype for free if you don't have it already and that is the best way to contact me with video. you can send me a private message here on youtube with your skype name and I will add you and then we can arrange a time for me to join you while you train :-)

  • TYSM it actually worked! =D my dog can now roll over except like in the end wen u say roll over he dog keeps rolling over but when i try that my dog refuse LOL my dog is only doin it for the treats n when theres no treats in my hand she wont do it xD

  • that's really cool! so glad you are getting there now. it takes quite a bit of time to fade the hand signal (with the treat) but try the idea of using a "fake" treat in your hand to lure her over, show her that you are not holding the treat in that hand and then quickly give her a few treats from the other hand to let her know she was really smart to roll over when there wasn't even a treat there :-)

  • I wouldnt have got my dog to roll over i it wasnt for this video and ur helpful comments! =D ty for helping! My dog can now sit, roll over and lay (LOL) im moving on to shake a paw =D

  • aww, it's no problem, I'm glad to help :-) I have lots more tutorials on my channel so I hope you will check them out sometime :-) happy training!!

  • Nice tutorial! I'll use this to teach Jessie.

She's not one who enjoys rolling on her back so it may take some time and some very soft surfaces! LOL!

  • thanks for comment, I love your videos!! yes, Holly does not like to be on her back at all, it took a lot of time to train her this but she loves to do it now :-)

  • Great to hear! So there is hope!

  • Ur dogs are very nice and clever.

  • Great Video, it is very easy Thanks for sharing!!

  • Great job as always.

  • Hi, Sian.

how did u know i want this!!!!? :P i tried some methods learned from youtube. but didnt work well. now i find what the problem is: i didnt split the desired hehavior small enough.!!! ha,i will try it tonite. thank you so much.

    Daisy

  • oh that's great news :-) I hope it's going better now? do let me know if you have any questions.

  • he did it much better.!! but problem is he did not wanna focus on the training.. he played with me for about 1 or 2 mins, and then ran away..:S

  • It's a good idea to train well after any meal he has so as he isn't too full up to want the treats. next thing is to use the thing he likes most in the world for a treat to get his interest, real meat rather than dog treats is usually much better and lastly make sure you are in a quiet room for training with no distractions. hope that was a little help.

  • thank you for the ideas. ^^

  • Great video!!! Ive been having a lot of trouble with this with Sirius. At first I thought he couldn't do it because of his one leg not being as strong, but he rolled over spontaneously a few days ago in attempts to get a treat. He HATES to show his belly to anyone else though, so it's been a slow progress.

Great tips too! I've been having problems with him randomly going through everything he knows. THANKS! Hope to upload some improved tricks by using your tips :)

  • fantastic, Iam trying this these days and as always very useful!! v good work

  • AWESOME

i love these video your such an amazing dog trainer and teacher =D

  • Great tutorial Sian! You were meant to be a teacher/trainer! Please plan your next vacation for South Carolina, Keen and I would sure benefit from having you around! :) I am going to try this one as soon as I get back to normal around here! 5 STARS!

  • great video iam gonna use your tips as iam teachin kia to roll over

  • The best clicker training video's on you tube . Please keep them coming .

  • Oh Sian, how wonderful! I love the last bit of Holly rolling over on the grass, too cute! Roll over was Sparky's very first trick, and therefore one of my most favorite tricks as well, hehe. Sparky learned it at 10 weeks old (I was 8), I didn't even know how to train it properly but he started rolling over as soon as I said it. I'm more surprised now at his quick success than I was 8 years ago! :)

Another fantastic tutorial, thank you Sian!!

    xxxx

  • As always you surpassed expectations. Everything explained clearly. Excellent teacher.

  • Brilliant!!!! very calm and cool, not you the dog lol

  • splendid :)

  • Oh Sian, this is brilliant. This trick was one of the hardest tricks to teach Samson ha ha he only learnt how to roll over a couple of weeks ago!

    Fantasic tutorial :)

    xx

  • And again a nice one, love your dogs!

  • Another great video! You explain how to teach rollover very well. I loved Holly repeatedly rolling over at the end! Awesome! Ricky learned this as a puppy outside in the grass - that was easier for him than on the floor. Then he stopped being willing to do it for a period and now he is back to doing it even inside.

  • oh that's interesting, Holly went through a few months when she just didn't want to do it! I had to start giving her a long game of ball every time she offered it and that ironed it out in the end! haha!

  • As always, a splendid informational video! By the end of the clip I was rolling over.:) Keep up the great work

  • haha! now that I would love to see!!!! thanks for awesome comment :-)

  • This is the same way I taught Matty, brilliant video

  • Another fabulous tutorial. Keep 'em coming. I forward them to my friends. :-)

  • Haha, Miya drops to the floor all at once just like Mabel, so cute. Good advice not to reward when they do it on their own. I have made that mistake. Love the music, and love the ending with Holly! 5* & a favorite.

  • haha, it's cute when they do that, Holly is the same, she slams to the floor! cute!!

  • sian, this was a very good job! Thanks for putting on youtube!

  • I love it! You are so right, it is important to not just reward when they do it. Especially if you ever want it under stimulus control. Nice video. Emily and I just did roll over in our Canine Freestyle on-line newsletter. We must all be on the same wave length. :) You know, great minds think alike! :)

  • thank you so much, I really appreciate your support so much Pam! you're the best!
