A diesel-engine is powering a generator that charges batteries and the propulsion is electric, the advantages are that it is more fuel- and space-efficient, and also gives great possibility to attach heavy duty electric components. If you temporarily turns off the generator, you can also have a less noisy vehicle, which might be useful if you wish to avoid detection.
