Was digging for a chicken salad recipe and of course you had one (or some)! This is absolutely beautiful! Another one for my "favorites"! I love food and I love to cook. Your videos have become a daily view for me :) I look forward to your next one! :)
p.s. I saw that you guys are former teachers/professors. That's awesome! I am studying to be one myself! (am pursuing my Master's in Special Education) I was thinking ya'll looked like teachers, lol.
@Poenut Thanks for your sweet comment! Yes, Rick taught Law, and I taught Math. We were just mentioning to each other today that in the past we would have been at work, getting ready for a new semester! I hope your semester is great! Special Education takes a special person!
Made this tonight - I added tomatoes because I had run out of onions but still wanted a bit of bulk... and a touch of vinegar (only a few drops), 'cause I love my salads with that tiny twang that vinegar gives. It was YUMMY!!!! Thanks for the recipe.
Great video. and nice salad. Can you show us your garden next year? Sorry for the question if you have already produce a garden video. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you so much for posting this video, I've been searching for a chicken salad recipe and I knew you would have a great recipe so I'm going to try this one and your Elegant Restaurant Chicken Salad Sandwich recipe! You're the best and I would buy a cookbook from you as well.
I'm glad you like the chicken salad. The way we actually ate it was for me to put the cap back on the bowl and cut out wedges, and it was yummy with the bread! I am thinking about printing all of my recipes and indexing them, which could possibly lead to a cookbook...
Estragon...what an interesting word for tarragon! I bet you soak up a lot of the German culture. That must be a great experience, but I guess you think of home a lot, too!
Hi Betty! That looked lovely and you know I love your videos and I hope you make a cook book one day.... Your so lovely and wonderful people would be rushing to get it! Anyway, do you think it would look nice on a platter decorated or should I just stick with the bread bowl?
Thanks for your lovely comments! I think both presentations are great! You can just put it on a plate with a little greenery and fruit, and it looks wonderful!
I am using YouTube to organize my recipes! Some of my recipes have never been written down before, and this forces me to do it. Also, I am saving each recipe writeup in a Word document, and I hope to eventually get a cookbook printed, so that I can pass my 50 years' worth of recipe creating and collecting down to my daughter! Thanks for the question and for your kind comment!
Thanks! I wanted to do something a little different, but people who aren't interested in the bread bowl can still make chicken salad sandwiches or serve the chicken salad on a plate with fruit! Thanks for your lovely comment!
Thanks so much. I'm in college and I need to start cooking to save money and not gain too much weight eating out all the time!!! Thanks LOVE your videos...any advice to new cooks
You're welcome! For new cooks, start with simple recipes that will not fail, and then work toward more complicated ones. An easy and economical recipe is Betty's Crazy Eight Can Soup, which you can find in bettyskitchen! Thanks for commenting!
Nice salad presentation, Betty! Will have to remember to use the bread bowl idea next time I make chicken salad! Also, the extra bread can be used in bread pudding, or to make croutons..just cube and mix w/melted butter and place on cookie sheet in oven til browned and store in zip lock bag. ---Angie
any bread that you dont use, you should give to birds, ducks, or any other animals :) i personaly throw leftover bread in my front yard and when birds come, it looks lovely and full of life, while my neighbors' yards dont. :) ANYWAYS, i loved the bread bowl idea.
That's a good idea for people who don't have a use for the extra bread, particularly in the winter, when it is difficult for animals to find food. Thanks for your sweet comment!
The chicken salad looks so delicious and i would have never thought to put the chicken salad in a nice bread bowl. That looks good and tasty. Thank you Betty for all of your wonderful recipe.
I don't often use a bread bowl, but it's something I hadn't done in bettyskitchen, and I thought some of you might like to use it in your entertaining. It has a really nice look, and the Italian bread tastes great with the chicken salad! Thanks for your nice comment!
Great! I will make this for a family gathering this weekend! I've made quite a few of your recipes. I'm stll addicted to the Shaker tomato soup. I'm going to also make your breakfast quiche recipe with the dried hashbrown potatoes and bacon on top. :-)

Hi,
chicken salad is one of my favorite 'hearty' salads, you can have it on a sandwich too!
The germans make it similar but add some (seedless) grapes cut in half...
The bread bowl makes it real fancy and i bet the guys munch some of the bread bowl
when the salad is all gone.... at least i would ;-)
you should make a DVD or a Recipe Book or something!
Joe from Germany
P.S. learned a new word 'Tarragon' we call it 'Estragon'

This salad looks delicious. I like big chunks of meat in my salads.
