Too bad you can't ask Mike Portney how he feels about being ahead of Peart.he'd laugh! That is his Idle.Joey maybe 10 unless he gets points for having a rising and tilting drum set. as much as I hate to say it,Lars belongs on this list before Joey.
Phil fucking Collins!?!?!?! Unless this is the 80's decade, that aint true. And Dave Grohl doesn't play drums anymore to any relevent degree. This list is terrible and smacks of utter bias. Where's Tony Royster Jr. or any other fresh talent that's SMOKIN' some of the "greats"?
Which decade? Neil Peart has been on every Top Whatever list for 5 decades...and he is a better lyricist than dummer...and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke until Rush is in.
shame on you and your opinion... neil peart at #4 and joey jordison at #1? i know u said that there is no best drummer, but there is a better drummer, and neil peart is 10000 times better that joey jordison
A lot of factors involved... A lot of GREAT drummers out there... Each of them are great to there own style and to their own bands.... To their genre of music ... There ain't no best or no worst... All of them have talent according to their place in history.... Personally, I like Neil Peart but that's not to say he's the best !!!
@fasionroadkill No no no. Let's not get carried away. I do not agree with this list either. Or with Joey Jordison being the top drummer of the last 25 years. But he is nevertheless a serious drummer. And a very seriously talented one. Despite the different opinion that each of us may have of the bands that he happens to be associated with. Nothing to do with bloody Travis Barker

As 1 said, picking #1 depends on style-limited list-missed Terry Bozzio, Danny Carrey, Buddy Rich/Gene Krupa (& all jazz guys), Chad Smith, Phil Collins (listen to Brand X), Ginger Baker, Ian Paice, Stewart Copeland, Appice, Erskine, Portnoy, Colaiuta, Minnerman, Carl Palmer...the list is endless, and they all play different styles, different musice, so saying somebody is #1 is impossible. There's too much talent out there that "list" missed. As the comments say, it misses incredible drummers
@danart65 Technique; Aesthetics; Style; Innovation; Dominance; Knowledge; Influence; Importance. Just a few of the parameters by which IT IS 'possible' to estimate how gifted and of how much value a drummer was to his craft, his colleagues, his time, to the world. To do this, you need a group of people who really know about music and music history and percussion and even reason itself. And they must deeply get to know the life and work of ALL drummers on their list. Wasnt the case here
@ghoawaynetcabo ya, it's hard to include ALL drummers, as each one brings his own special style and technique to the music. Way back, a friend of mine's dad, a pro jazz drummer with a steady gig at the Royal York Hotel, had trouble learning the cymbal/off snare beat for disco-he was an awesome jazz drummer, but had difficulty with that beat. I also heard Charlie Watts had trouble doing the cowbell beat on Brown Sugar, as it wasn't his style. Powerhouse metal double bass has it's own stars
You missed all the jazz/prog/rock drummers, like Bill Bruford, Dave Weickl, Jack DeJohnette, Billy Cobman, Steve Gadd, Phil Collins, Airto Moriera, Jon Christenson (Softmachine), Lenny White & many more. John Bonham derserves a mention, or Keith Moon. Steve Gadd is the best studio drummer, with Jack DeJohonette & Billy Cobham as technical wizards. Thash/metal are sub-genres...I've left out many drummers -even Neil Peart, who's worth a mention-very limited list-consider jazz and prog rock

What the hell is going on.. How can Travis Barker and Dave Grohl be on this list? Travis Barker is not a drummer, he just hit things with twigs and Dave Grohl's time of greatness was in the 90's with Nirvana. I don't get this.
you wanna know what I think....you have a very skewed opinion of what makes a drummer 'good'...Barker shows of for people who know nothing about good technique, Jordison is a double bass cheater (if look at some of his vids, he straps his feet to the pedals and uses a triplet pedal that makes two notes with only one tap of the foot)...and where the fuck is Danny Carey on this
...Dom Famularo, Dennis Chambers, Rod Morgenstein, Horacio "el negro" Hernández, Joey Heredia, Akira Jimbo, Nick D'Virgilio, Thomas Pridgen, Virgil Donatti, John Macaluso, Dean Castronovo, Danny Carey, Uli Kusch, Mike Terrana... and the list of great drummers out there could go on, but I mostly mention the last 25 because:
a. They're legends and also most of them are my favourites, so, you check'em out and enjoy'em.
b. They represent the best (or almost the best) in their music genres.
3. About drummers like Barker or Jordison, I would say; Barker is fine but his style... doesn't fill my shoes, and about Jordison, yeah, he's fast, really, but at the same time is so plane and also with no feeling on each drumbeat (IMO).
4. I'm apologize, for real, but where the hell have you left drummers like: Buddy Rich, Ginger Baker, Ian Paice, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Jeff Porcaro, Stewart Copeland, Steve Smith, Terry Bozzio, Simon Phillips, Carmine Appice...

Ok, I'm just going to mention some things about this "Top".
1. A good thing that I found on this top, was the fact that there are drummers who plays "different styles" of music, so, you can choose your favourite taking in mind that.
2. I'm a little confused because the title of the video says: "Top 10 drummers of the decade", so, my question is... which decade are you referring to?. I guess you mean to "last decade".
Travis Barker shouldn't be on there, he puts a bad name on music. Jordison shouldn't be on there. Peart comes before Portnoy says Portnoy himself. So it goes #1 Peart, #2 Portnoy, #3 Harrison... and so forth. Someone may even become before Harrison.
has everybody forgot the first line of the clip already??? quote :" There is NO best drummer, the best drummers cannot be judged (interpreted: compared to one another) because each one has a (its) very own way to play" end of quote.
where the fuck is Yoshiki from X JAPAN ?

What the hell is going on.. How can Travis Barker and Dave Grohl be on this list? Travis Barker is not a drummer, he just hit things with twigs and Dave Grohl's time of greatness was in the 90's with Nirvana. I don't get this.

you wanna know what I think....you have a very skewed opinion of what makes a drummer 'good'...Barker shows of for people who know nothing about good technique, Jordison is a double bass cheater (if look at some of his vids, he straps his feet to the pedals and uses a triplet pedal that makes two notes with only one tap of the foot)...and where the fuck is Danny Carey on this
gonzomaniac71 5 months ago
it goes
1. Gavin
2. Neil
3. Portnoy

And finally, only taking in mind the present list, my top would be:
1. Neil Peart (no doubt about it)
2. Vinnie Colaiuta
3. Mike Portnoy
4. Gavin Harrison
5. Chad Smith (for those who believe he's only a "rockstar drummer", check him out more seriously his stuff, he's great).
Thanks for giving us the posibility to discuss about drummers, no matter the personal taste or knowledge about drums.
Have a nice time!!!.

...Dom Famularo, Dennis Chambers, Rod Morgenstein, Horacio "el negro" Hernández, Joey Heredia, Akira Jimbo, Nick D'Virgilio, Thomas Pridgen, Virgil Donatti, John Macaluso, Dean Castronovo, Danny Carey, Uli Kusch, Mike Terrana... and the list of great drummers out there could go on, but I mostly mention the last 25 because:
a. They're legends and also most of them are my favourites, so, you check'em out and enjoy'em.
b. They represent the best (or almost the best) in their music genres.
CarlosH1982 5 months ago

I guess you mean to "last decade".

raffa1983 6 months ago
Travis Barker shouldn't be on there, he puts a bad name on music. Jordison shouldn't be on there. Peart comes before Portnoy says Portnoy himself. So it goes #1 Peart, #2 Portnoy, #3 Harrison... and so forth. Someone may even become before Harrison.
