I have watched this video a few times. I like it. I think your quick keystrokes may be so fast they do not do justice to the video. I was focused on character following path technique. Not so much anatomical movement accuracy. Also the video is a little fuzzy on this machine. This seems to be a different technique than The Mancandy FAQ - Animation - making a walk - NLA Forward Cycle BlenderFoundation | July 26, 2009 So I was just curious if you could comment on your preferences. Thanks
my character's body doesn't rotate according to the path direction. he follows the path, but remains in one direction for the whole time. it's similar to the problem you're having. do you know what might be wrong? thanks
Great tutorial but I've got one problem. When I'm clicking "stride path" my character's animation stops and armature's form is default (like in Edit Mode). Does anyone know why it is not working ?
Concerning the orientation of the character on the curve, I think you need to rotate your character so that he has the same orientation as the curve start = tangent. Otherwise, the character will keep the angle he had at the begining of the path, like an offset.
That was helpful though a bit whacked out in the end. Please do tell whats wrong if you found it out. Well this seems to work in simple walking like these but what if you are doing much more complex go here to there things like climbing a stair or ladder? Or if you want him to have a more varied walk? Will this technique still works or there is a need for another workflow?
Thank you very much for the tutorials. I have some experience with path animations, just none with characters walking on a path. With the path animations that I have done what works for me to ensure that the object is properly following the path is instead of positioning the object with a keyframe; after parented to the path, press Alt O to clear the origin, that will place the object directly onto the path. Then in the object panel select weather X, Y, or Z will face the path direction.
This series of tutorials is phenomenal ! Unfortunately I'm in the middle of house-hunting, so I'll have to come back and go through these at a later date, but I wanted to let you know how much these are appreciated!
Hello david i see you're an expert can you help me i've got many problems. I try to work with this program and i want to learn it can you give this file for a download anywhere. That would makes me happy . Thank you for all your videos......
Great! I just couldn't find an easy to follow stride tutorial that's up to date. Now i know how to do it. Maybe the character doesn't walk sideways if you subdivide the path and add more vertices to it. And as far as I know the path curve should only be edited in edit mode.
Love the tutorials, but in newer blender versions I can't seem to find the
"Stride Path" button, please help! :) Thank you!

when you parent the hip bone to the controller hip bone, what's the difference between keep offset and keep connected?
NathanaelXavier 1 year ago
@NathanaelXavier it would flip the first hip bone around and mess it up

i think i prefer the weight paint way of rigging because it's a lot simpler and still gets amazing results if you paint it right.

Hey Man, loving all your videos, thanks so much.
REGARDING guys rotation not following the curve. Not sure if you figured it out yet but
If you click on the "Path" and in the edit panel under the "Curve and Surface" menu there is a button called
"Curve Follow" This need to be on and then the objects rotate with the curve.
Hope that is helpful, I just did a quick test with ye old default cube.
