First, this asteroid will not destroy the world. If it hits the pacific it will just destroy the western coast of the States, 10 miles in i believe (from 50 minutes of tsunamis) Blowing it up is not such a great idea, as you cannot predict how many pieces it will split into and how big those pieces are. Instead of just having one local impact you will have caused hundreds. Deflection is a much better scenario.
If this does hit (odds say no) this is not a cataclysmic event.

You do realize that you wouldn't be able to see the asteroid in our atmosphere once it came in. Upon entering our atmosphere it would hit Earth in about 2 seconds. 30.728 KM/s.

this simulation was very uninformative...
first off... You know that these things move at at LEAST 3 miles a SECOND? You'll see it in the sky, and then the next second, BOOM!. IT's not going to be a pretty thing in the sky... Yes, the massive speed and mass will make it pretty forceful, but it won't be EXTREMELY big. It COULD put us into the next ice age, but that's pretty doubtful.

Se dan cuenta que cuando lo descubrieron se le dio el numero "2004 MN4" y despues se le quedo el numero definitivo "99942" y ya que tenia un numero fijo se le podia poner nombre y le llamaron "Apophis" que es un Dios Griego del mal y destruccion. Lo curioso es que el numero fijo comienza con los tres numeros "999"42 y puestos de cabeza se leerian "666" y podria chocar en el año
20"36". quien sabe que criterio usan para ponerle numero definitivo.

its not gunna hit. even if it gets close enough there is an energy kept underground in a magnetical field at CERN in Sweden called "anti-matter" if it touches matter it explodes and just the i think biggest amount of it there is 40 mm3 which will explode a radius of 1/2 mile in diameter. they could easily create more. Apophis is going to be a 'near Earth event'. It will however be effected by Earth's gravitational pull, changing its future orbit. A collision orbit cannot be rulled out in the future.

if it hits, its gonna hit the coast of california and it will send up trillions of tonnes of dust which will dreate a nuclear winter for the whole world. the cities near the coasts of california such as LA will be totally wiped out by tsunamis and earthquakes and falling debris from the asteroid. The human race though, will not disappear. People will survive the nuclear winter. NASA is trying to solve the problem by using a ship's gravity to divert it. But it only has 1/43000 chance of hitting.

I agree with you there. I think the government is hiding something from the public as to not spread world wide panic and such. I have a feeling that it will hit. I just seen a movie on a guy who specializes in asteroids talk about Apophis. His theory is that it will most likely hit. I don't think it was a movie for the public to see. He estimated the gravational key hole to be over 600 meters across, not 400. I think the odds are much higher than 1 in 43,000. I think it's one in 45..

not really. Taking the hit of 99942 in one intact piece will likely break through crust to the mantle, with enough splattering magma and gases to poison the entire atmosphere. 100 smaller chunkies would be repeats of Winslow crater, bad day for Cleveland but not the whole planet

1 - you can calculate where a big one hits (too big it doesn't matter)
2 - breaking such a large one apart with eg. nukes will cause 10s to 1000x 1 - 5 megaton nuke equivalent impacts in unknown locations, impossible to evacuate etc.. trust me scientists smarter then us have researched it in great depth. ps. you won't get them small enough if you launch the complete nuclear arsenal of the planet (the global killer sizes)the easiest is spotting fast enough and altering the course.. make it miss.

Because chances are, in 2030 anti-matter explosives will be developed. Whatever much of apophis is left behind afterwards will burn in the atmosphere
