I COULD NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY THIS GREAT SONG FAILED TO MAKE THE TOP 10 (GOT TO NUMBER 32 IN APRIL 1972) WAS GREAT TO SEE IT PERFORMED LIVE. IAN GILLAN STILL HASNT LOST HIS TOUCH AS A GREAT VOCA.IST (THOUGH VERY UNDERRATED) MACHINE HEAD IS A BRILLIANT ALBUM
Heyallll yessss! Why argue the comparison between Ritchie and Morse? Yes, this is a video, but put your headphones on, close your eyes, and dig the (DEEP) bass and patient rocking of this gem. It's not drawn, out it's true to the original, and there is a reason to be thankful for it being here--I will never be able to say that the title of the song is applicable to the number of times that I have seen this clip...or the next time, or the next time, or the next time, ect.
everybody knows ritchie as the true axeman for purple, but since we cant have him, steve morse is a great replacement eventhough he can never fill ritchies shoes. Plus, he also adds his his own sound to the songs, which is fun (or at least interesting) .
I must admit that Morse even considered he is a GIANT player sometimes annoys me when he starts playing his trademarke hyperspeed noodling even in a Song like When a blind man cries. Apart from that one must consider once and for all that: Nobody plays or can play like Ritchie Blackmore. So stop whining. Morse fits to Purple.
Blackmore won't return, get over it. Stop whining and crying over Morse. When they got More in they knew they wasn't getting a Blackmore "clone". While you guys sit at a Blackmore's Night concert and is bored to death, the rest of us fans can enjoy Deep Purple rocking w. Morse.
I disagree with all this negativity regarding Morse. He's not a Blackmore-type player, but would you rather have Yngwie Malmsteen or Satch? Those were they other dudes.
Morse is a really good player, and yes are melodic! They have parts of flourishes, but it's very melodic. Good choice! Not as Metal as Blackmore was.
Blackmore was more forceful, but Blackmore was an ORIGINAL MEMBER...meaning he can turn up his Marshall and play tempos as fast as he wants. It created drama and tension in Purple's sound.
Morse is, in all essence, a hired gun. He has to play in the shadows a little bit. It sounds a little more like a coverband without Blackmore...but Morse is a fine player...better than anyone on THIS comment list:)
I think, it's very similar to Blackmore and Morse with Lord and Airey. In my opionion without either one, Jon or Ritchie, Purple is not Purple. It also seems to me that Don Airey is basically just copying Jons solos.
Why do you even bother to watch Purple that is not Purple then? The way you write, it only comes across as you wasting time and telling everyone on YT about it... SAD

Good to hear this song again, they released it as a single in '72 but it kinda bombed (scraped the UK Top 40). Dunno why, it has a nice, tight funky arrangement and great melodic parts by Gillan. Yeah Morse is technically good but he is found wanting a tad on some of the Blackmore stuff.
I have to agee about Morses inability to play a melodic lead. Some of his solos are so detached it sounds like he's playing on a totally different song then the rest of the band. I also agree that his namesake Music Man guitar which I believe has Dimarzio pick-ups sounds way to nasally to approximate the classic Blackmore/Purple sound. Not good! Of course it's a no win situation for him since he's trying to replace a guy who's acknowledged as one of the all time greats.
It is natural to prefer Blackmore's guitar on "his songs". Morse has made later songs "his songs" as far as the guitar is concerned. They are both very good but different. I much prefer Blackmore on "when a blind man cries" (more soul) but Blackmore would spoil some of the later songs.
the only thing that Morse lacks, and I know this for a fact, as a guitarist, is the style that Blackmore had. Blackmore had a beautiful, colorful, guitar playing style. You can really tell when you hear Morse and Blackmore's different versions of "Lazy". Blackmore was much more laid-back, and fluent, while Morse is Heavier in style and lacks the fluent playing style that Blackmore had. But, every guitarist has their own unique blend of style. A combination of everything they have ever learned.
im more into morses playing since he has a more chromatic style of playing and more wide spread in style. you have your taste and i have mine. good day.
there are two sides of deep purple, so if i were you low educated kids that have no musical experience, you have no idea what your saying steve morse has no soul or is boring. just keep saying crap cause you know your protected behind your computer being anonymous, believe me you would not say that in person..... but hey kids will be kids haha...
Morse once again, lacks style, talented player but no different than some guy in his garage. You heard one note and you knew it was Blackmore. Can you really say that about Morse? He also sucked in Kansas...
This is not Deep Purple... this is a cover band... Morse is a good guitarrist, but the real DP guitarrist was Blackmore... without him and Lord there is not Deep Purple
Steve Morse rules! Could you have done anything better? He have now been there for 13 years, Tommy Bolin lasted for only 1! Morse have almost been there as long as Blackmore, he have been there for 16 years.
Nice Deep Purple Cover Band. Without Blackmore or Bolin, there is no Purple. Morse is soul-less, all style no substance. Glover & Paice deserve better! Ritchie please come back and save us...
Why do you bother to watch Deep Purple videos with Steve Morse if you hate him? I only find that REALLY REALLY sad, and shows that you have nothing better to do in life.
I actually like some of the Morse stuff (Purpendicular and Bananas in particular). Yeah it is silly comparing him to Blackmore as they both have totally diff styles. I think Morse is fine on some of the Blackmore material, maybe im just expecting Steve to play an identical solo live, ha ha to the MIB. Morses more subtler side is good on songs like Loosen My Strings and Clearly Quited Absurd for example.
'Purpendicular' and 'Bananas' have some of the best reunion era material I think, along with 'Perfect Strangers' and 'House Of Blue Light'. 'The Battle Rages On' has it's moments as well. I saw Deep Purple w. Morse recently, and the band did 'Wasted Sunsets' off 'PS' album. Steve played it pretty much exactly like Blackmore, which surprised me, but Morse was fantastic. Another MK.II song Morse shines on, is 'Anya' when he did it in '95 with them. I simply love all eras of Deep Purple.
Ian Gillan-You were the greatest Rock-Singer of all time!! But you really missed the moment to stop!!! It really makes me sad,if i here you today! Blackmore`s an Ass but he`s right when he said he don`t wanna be in Purple if he hear him singing today!

Morse, like many other rock guitarists, can't play a lyrical lead. Way too mechanical.
Ritchie Blackmore has the ability to write very lyrical leads, Morse does not.
The lead that Morse plays in this video is awful. Too bad he can't realize his tone sucks.
He has the technique but not the creativity.
Morse would not have been picked to play the guitar for "Machine Head."
