@wogacelli It's all part of the Wrestlemania buildup. This was before Vince McMahon publicly admitted wrestling was an act, and there was a ridiculous amount of cash riding on this show's success. T was likely under strict orders from McMahon (and his "associates") to not so much as crack a smile, lest the jig be up. Made for an awkward interview, but it must have worked!

It pains me to watch Letterman now. The first 5 years of Late Night on NBC were groundbreaking. It's the uncomfortable moments like this that made the show. And all the out of studio stuff he used to do were such classics. This show was so cutting edge for it's time, even now. No A list celeb ass kissing interviews about their lates movie, vacation, kids, unfunny stories about any of the aforementioned. The show was REAL. And RIP Larry Bud Melman. I really miss the old show. Love to get DVDs
