  • wedge shaped combustion chamber, you could also get the wedge package for a 440

  • The max wedge engines 62-64 used wedge shaped cylinder heads which were common to all chrysler b/rb engines, except they had raised intake runners on the cylinder heads, which required a special intake a la the cross ram. The 62 max wedges were 413ci with a 11.0 and 13.5 compression versions, the 63-64 were 426ci with a 11.0 and 12.5 compression version. Unlike 68 s/s hemi cuda's and darts, these bohemoths could be driven street legally. The 64 GTO sucked balls compared to these cars.

  • what does super stock stand for?

  • @5191keith

    thx :D

  • awesome "hanging of the hoops" , that was just perfect. wonder who the awipe is that voted dislike?

  • All motor baby!!!! Thats mopar for you!!!

  • WWOOWW !!!

  • like this badass car

  • which was quicker the SS wedge dodge or the Ford thunderbolt

  • Ok....now i dontk now what difference on a Max Wedge is...xD

if u can describe it pls send me a pm :D

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx I don't really know. They all sound good to me! The only thing I do know is that you can tell a Hemi in the upper RPM banc when they really start to sing!

  • @OneBadSuperbird

    ok thank you :D

  • @OneBadSuperbird Its pretty easy, wedge and hemi refer to the combustion chamber type.... "Max Wedges" were wedge headed engines with dual carm long or short ram intakes. Usually the ones used for drag racing were short rammed. I dont know much about the american cars but I imagine this is a 426 max wedge????

  • @MalliganTheUFO Lol, Dual carb... Not carm!

  • @MalliganTheUFO 426 Max Wedge or a 413 Max Wedge.

  • @Boredout454 I forgot about the 413!

  • @OneBadSuperbird

If you know how a Hemi head is, a Wedge head is Just that. A Wedged Piston.

  • @DetonatorYellow You mean a wedge-shaped combustion chamber? Lol

  • @DeAdiSSu3 no a max wedge was a engine produced by the Chrysler corp. in the early 60's, it was called the max wedge because it was so wide it would barely fit under the hood of any muscle car of the time, and the intake was of a staggered design placeing the two Thermoquad 4bbl's right over the valve covers.

  • @TTimpreza That's not what I was talking about, someone said a "wedge" motor means the piston is somehow wedge-shaped, and it's not the piston, it's the combustion chamber shape.

  • @OneBadSuperbird The 413 and 426 Max-Wedge engines were Mopar's superstock engines of choice before the first Hemi (generation 2) engine was available. They were factory built, high compression engines, with a long ram (predecessor to the tunnel ram) intake manifold, large valves, and cast iron headers with factory exhaust cutouts. The *real* Max Wedge cars and parts fetch huge money if you can even find any these days.

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx - Its a factory offered 413 or 426 cubic inch Dodge or Plymouth engine (Mopar) built in 1962 and for a few years after. It was built to the max by the factory, thus Maxwedge engine. The wedge separates it from the Hemi engine that Chrysler built. It was a killer Super Stock set up back in the day.

  • @My70ChargerRTSE

Thank you...and again i have a reason why i have to love MOPAR :D

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx Built from 1962-64, these were mopars race motors before the HEMI took over. These had such big valves the cylinder bores were notched for clearance. They had 11:1 to 12:1 compression ratios. The Engine Block used heavy duty castings, bigger oil passages, and were factory stress-relieved. I also remember a lot of them had a cross-ram dual 4-barrel intake system. Old Max wedge motors were cool! I think they made ~425hp and 480lbs of torque.

    Cheers!

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx I was just going by factory specs, don't know how much this monster has been tweaked.

    Cheers!

  • @thudtheace

    Yeah thank you :)

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx Bigger ports, cam,2 4bbl carbs (on a cross ram manifold) huge exaust manifolds. It can really breathe compared to a standard wedge engine.Want even more well then go HEMI.

  • @4thstooge

lol...i tihnk im going to buy two engines when i have my charger...if im older nad have the money one max wedge and a HEMI xD

    thx for teh answers^^

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx Max Wedge has a wedge shaped combustion chamber like the 440's as opposed to the Hemi Head. The Max wedge was produced from 1962 to 1965. The performance hemis were manufactured 1964 to 1971

  • @Dulein

    thx ;D

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx max wedge is a none Hemi because it has flat top pistons instead of hemispherical or hemi piston

  • @MrCcc2000

    ok thx

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx no problem

  • Comment removed

  • @MrCcc2000 You are right that the Hemi has domed pistons but it is more so the cylinder head it's hemispherical combustion chambers that make a Hemi a Hemi

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx A "wedge" has a wedge shaped combustion chamber. I think most old V8s are like that.

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx A Max Wedge is a 440 with 2 4bbl carbs on a criss cross type intake manifold. I think the max wedge was also available on the old 392 hemi but could be wrong. I any case they were kicking major ass in the early 60's. Some say the 64 GTO was the original factory muscle car. I disagree and say the 62 Super Stock Dodge should have that title. Google it for more info. Its the same car the Beach Boys sang about in the song Little old Lady from Pasadena. Google if you never heard it.

  • @matrox

Yeah ill chekc ito ut, thx for the reply .

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx I said 440 I meant 413 ci.

  • @matrox I believe the Max Wedge cars all came with Dual Quads At least the ones with 13.5 compression ... The normal wedge cars would have had the 2 bbls The Max Wedge came in the 413 and 426 CI range . They had stages I,II,III,&IV heads The stage 4 heads were rated the same as a Hemi . These motors were no joke The Max Wedge refers to the combustion chamber in conjunction with the stage heads . The 392 Hemi was a Hemispherical chamber So no Max Wedge for the 392 ...

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx

    A wedge motor is a 440ci 7213cc -

watching the video sure brings back memories!

  • Crazy Wheelstand and a racewin at the same time :D

    Shiiiit nice car^^

and does every hemi unter 1000 hp idle wlel...but everything above 1000 HP idle bad?

    just wanna know^^

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx I'm not sure on that but the car shown in this video is a Max Wedge, not a Hemi.

  • @xXCREEKSTARXx doesnt sound like its idlein bad to me. its probably just a cam?

  • OMG IT'S THE LITTLE OLD LADY FROM PASADENA!

  • Nice run and beautiful 64 Plymouth! Thanks for sharing your videos. Check out some of my videos of a wheelstanding 64 Dodge that runs 9.00@150!

  • Those are some sick wheelstands, how much power does it make?

  • @lovesara850 Probably like 800-900 horsepower.

  • @OneBadSuperbird It sounds sick.. yeah like all the dragsters..

  • Now thats a Mopar................ Wicked car !

  • Do it man, just do it. Keep beating on that car. Great short video.

  • im 18 years old and ive been going to mopar nationals for 10 years straight now. love to see an old max wedge doin its thing. gorgeous car as well. my father took 2nd in the show field with his 69 sunfire yellow bee. Mopare or no Car.

P.S. first run against Mr. Aruba?

  • @airgrabber70gtx Thanks for stopping by It's great to see the younger generation getting into the old Mopars! I'm not sure if that's Mr. Aruba or not in the other lane but it may well be. I think Mr. Aruba Mike Dichicco won the points championship at the Chrysler Classics this year. You might be interested in our Mopar Nationals Part 1 Show Cars DVD from whatever year it was that your dad won at the Mopar Nats. The car is probably in the show winners parade.

  • @OneBadSuperbird i spoke to the creator of 5 star productions, and he was planning on putting the bee on the cover. last restored in 1980 and placing among cars with frame off 2000 and above restos.

  • poor car....

  • @GIwillo Poor car??? And how is that???

  • @OneBadSuperbird

lol, look how he treats it.bouncing pretty hard on the ground after his wheelstands

  • sexy!

  • Nice sound!

  • ive got a great idea for this video u should market it as a natural form of

viagra kuz i jusst got a boner XDD

  • chrysler in the early years built the best engine in the world that's a fact

  • @irobot2009able The old "Double-Duece and a Nickel" Super Six, Or Hyper-Pak Slant...! Used to have a 225 Door-Slammer ran 10's in the 1/8... 3900 lb. car..

  • I feel good taralalala

  • How did the driver fit his balls in the car? Must have been crowded in there.

  • SWEEET!!!

  • never was a dodge fan till i seen a 64 polara the other day at the car show i helped host in my back yard...small show, about 25 cars, but here came a polara with a 426 wedge.....god damn that thing is a beast. with the stock exhaust on the car its totally a sleeper (475-480hp according to the owner)

  • Not trying to take away from the awsomeness that is a factory S/S car, but the driver redlighted on that first run, and appeared to lose as veiwed in the second angle. At least he lost to another Mopar. Looks like a 65 Dodge S/S. I love these cars. It blows my mind that the factories actually built these cars.

  • I've never been in a car that pulled the wheels off like that. Must take some getting used to to stay in it. Cool vid.

  • holy shazbot ! MOPAR for the win

  • @SpaceCookie69 They're both Mopars buddy! Of course a mopar won.

  • Ohh, yeeeeaah...thats the kind of Plymouth i like to own..:)

  • bad ass

  • He needs to get that under control.

  • Huh? Are you kidding me? The early Super Stock Max Wedges were purpose-built for drag racing! Doing what you see in this videos is these cars' sole purpose in life. Check out some of our other Super Stock Max Wedge videos!

  • Yeah, I thought in views 1 and 2 that the other guy was walkin him a bit but great shots! Way to keep your foot in it!

  • it must be my old age or my eyes, but i think the bumper moved about an inch or two

  • all others do your selfs a favor & dont fuck with mopar :o:o:O

  • 2 words:Wheelie Bars!

  • Move Over People Are Racing!

  • MOPAR OR NO CAR!!!!!

  • holy scratch my bumper!

  • Glad you enjoyed the video! Actually, the first two camera angles were one pass and the third shot was a different pass later in the weekend. Amazing car though! In 28 years of filming Mopar drag racing, there is nothing, and I mean nothing, that compares to when the Super Stock Hemi and Max Wedge cars are on the line. Sure, the Quick 16 cars are qucker and faster and put on a great show too but there's a certain magic to the Hemi and Max Wedge cars!

  • what a launch !!!!!!!!

  • Just awesome! The word is for the cars like this! See that wheelie?

  • the bomb,awesome

  • Goosebumped!

  • what size motor is in it and are there any power adders?

  • 440 boared .60 over and he is runing nitroes i think the reason i know is cuz thats my uncle nicks car it makes 940 horses w/o nitroes

  • he throttled it just right so it didnt slam too hard

  • yes true

  • bad geometry!! needs to move driver seat back and then install another engine for more power and added weight up front yeah that should work

  • at 0:01 - 0:04 it sounds like its about to die

  • naw he was staging and burped the throtal

  • Ohh yeeeaaah..this is great..lets hear it

    for Mopar..

  • wow that sounds and looks tuff..

  • thats a beast!

  • What a Beast ! lol !

  • holy sheeet.

  • muscle car

  • no bars and on the bumper.

    i love the wedge cars.

  • oh god that sounds evil

  • Only god and that guys launderer will know how surprised the driver was.

  • Ouch Hope he had a skid pad under it but looked like he ate the bumper..Love the Mopar's

  • HOLY CRAP,NICE what cha runnin cube wise?!!!!!

  • I'm not sure but I'm fairly certain it was a big inch Wedge. Most of the folks running in the Max Wedge class are running around 500 inches or more.

  • how much faster would it be if he kept the wheels down somehow?

  • actually it runs a circle track small block mopar modified for drag use. it is crazy, with 10 inch tires it breakes the tires loose in high gear going across the finish line.

  • OK, hold up here. WHAT runs a circle track small block Mopar??? I hope you don't think that's what the car in this video is running.

  • must have a sbc in it =).

  • oohh, wonderful.

  • Dam that things hooks hard!!!

  • come on lets see a honda do that lol damn that would make u shit your pants

  • Max Wedge rules!

They'll never be a finer motor than the big block wedges and hemis.

  • Wouldn't that look nice pulling away from a stop light!

  • *****Christmas List December 25th 2009 ***** 1-'64 Max Wedge-check!

  • nice use of a wheelie bar its cool id rather se cars like this running then hopeed up nitro methane fueled 4 second monsters way to go id like to see more cars like this

  • Doesn't look like he's got any issues about planting the power to the track.. LOL

  • kool

  • Nice Job Nick Wilson and Compuflow head service. Building enough power for not only your customers to wheelstand but also your own car. Time for some wheelie bars on that car.

  • And he won....
