The gunman took it easy on them. He could have used an assault gun. He could have chosen an easier target like a school basket ball game where everyone is packed onto bleachers. He could have chosen a church on Sunday morning with everyone packed into pews. He could have chosen a daycare center and wiped out all the kids. It would have had a much greater public effect if he had done the daycare.

I just wonder if any of you even consider that guns are tools. They are inanimate objects. They are no more good or evil than a screwdriver or a chainsaw. And just like a screwdriver or a chainsaw they can be used in various ways by different people, for sport, for fun, or unfortunately as tools of destruction. Guns are not the cause of all problems with society, nor are they the sole solution. They are a tool to be applied only when the situation is appropriate. No tool should be banned.

The world has changed. This is 2009. The US has a standing army. The 2nd amendment was written when we had a citizen army. The militia was expected to drive off the British and Indians. No way did the constit. writers authorize Amer. to have more fire power in the back seat than all of Wash.'s army at Battle of Trenton. 2nd Amend is totally outdated. LOL @ ur sarcasm.......the way it happend was this guy from Belton, TX drove his pickup truck through the front of Luby's and said something to the effect of "This is what you did to me Belton" or something like that. Then he started going around table by table and shooting people. I think the count was up to 30+ before the cops that were in the restaurant got to their car, got their firearms and called for backup.  By the time the cops showed up he had gone to the men's room and shot himself

Lets say this woman did have her revolver with her? Would she have been able to stop this man? We really dont know because its hypothetical, her father took HIS LIFE in his own hands by charging the man with the handgun. The message is clear, creating a law will not prevent law breakers or criminal. You can make thousand of laws about guns, murder, etc. You can have laws against running a red light, driving over the speed limit, etc. Those who conciously wanted to break the law will continue to do so. This lady, Susanna Hupp is now a texas Representive in the State. Before the shooting,Texas forbade Concealed carry. She did have a handgun in the trunk of her car, unloaded, because that was the law. Since the shooting, she has become a State Repersentative and a staunch defender of gun rights in texas and introduced a carry concealed law.

You're correct. It was store policy. The Texas law, permitted carrying the gun in the car but did not permit the weapon to be carried on the person. That's why the gun was in the car. I do not know if, in fact there was a sign in the store . I thought there was a Texas law that mandated a person to honor a sign like that.

I was born and raise in Killeen, I do remember a sign on the door of Luby's that indicated people are NOT allowed to carry a gun in the restaurant at that time but not sure if the restaurant that is on that site now has that same sign

I remember this shooting in Texas. I seem to remember the she DID have a legal handgun , but it was in her car trunk. I think she had to leave it there due to a sign posted in the store requiring customers not to have a weapon in the store. So, by obeying this half azz law, her parents were murdered while she was helpless.

The main flaw with gun control, is that it prevents those law abiding citizens from have a way of defending themselves during situations like this. Gun control laws only affect those who choose to follow those laws. Any criminal with a little determination, will find a way to commit such horrible acts of violence. By taking firearms out of the hands of good citizens, problems like this will continue to happen.

That's not entirely true Pheenix82. Laws are about enforcement. They are not some honour system that can choose to follow or not. People are forced to follow them. And I am not smart enough to know the law to it's full extent, but strict gun control laws stop imports and manufacturing. And to grant access to them would be quite a challenge - something that some random crazy guy would a shotgun would not be smart enough to mastermind.

There is a major flaw in her arguement. Had the psycho not have a gun, this would have not happened. And since the crazy guy did have a gun, then it is clear her parents had the right to a gun aswell, but did not have it/bring it. There is a reason for gun control, and it is to prevent crazies like the man she described from having it. You can`t stop crazy people from existing, but you can stop them from cause more harm.

The UK has harsh gun laws and they are seeing less gun crimes, but more knife crimes. So now they're banning knives. Where does it end? Confining everyone to house arrest?
