I visited Padiham again april 2010. Stayed at the B and B next to The Mews. Nice people who run it. Sad to see so many shops closed. I managed to trace my family tree [HIRST] to the 18th century in Padham, My Gran apparently ran the Chippy on the Green up on Hapton rd. My great grandad lived in 28 Collinge st, Another in Green and Cotton sts. Sad to see the Whalley range closed, it was a good pub. Also sad to see the Jones sweet/grocery shop closed. Padiham character fast disappearing.
Did you happen to live in Spenser st? I had a cousin lived in Spenser st. I used to life in Bank st and Field st many many years ago before immigrating to Australia. Last visited Padiham 2008, It has changed a lot since i left as a child back in 1957 but I still love to revisit whenever I can. cheers.
