Just because someone ripped icons out of vista does not mean that every Ubuntu OS came from vista, by my comment I just meant that the operating system came first. Vista was not released to the public when it was only called longhorn it was in testing stages. Ubuntu 3.8 was released in 2006 when vista was released in 2007.

cuz its awesome and peeling the folders away like a book to reveal the desktop can be vary useful during certain times, not to mention that the 3d desktop feature is by far amazing, i thought macs slideview or whatever the fuck its called was amazing, this is even better, esp cuz u can have videos playing and it still plays them even while spinning around in the 3d desktop view. just brilliant and well crafted, its not called Compiz Fusion and its integrated into Ubuntu, among many other distros

My advice will be better. Go to System->Administration->Synapt­ic Package Manager, and write in the Quick Search: "compiz", and then select to install the package "compizconfig-settings-manager­", after install u can open, System->Preferences->CompizCon­fig Settings Manager, and select what u like

Actually, the person who made this video copied Vista's style. /Linux/ doesn't look like anything, because there are so many different environments and distribution defaults. Now keep in mind Linux is something that if your a windows user all your life, you have to learn to do a lot of things by hand. permissions are completely handled differently then just going to a control panel icon. All files are set by security on a per user and per file bases.

You will have to learn terminal commands and if your looking for a computer thats not for advanced users and need something simple then Linux may not be that simple for you to use.

I can play recent 'Windows' games on my Ubuntu, including Half-Life, Portal, WoW, Oblivion, and the like. They run better than they did under Windows on the same computer because I don't need layers of anti-virus running to keep the computer from exploding when I use Linux.

I work in support and can see another XP debacle happening with Vista.

Since XP was released there's been over a DVD worth of critical updates, service packs and hot fixes etc. MS up to it's usual tricks again by releasing s/ware before it's finished & having the consumers find the faults for them.

XP Pro SP2, Vista Ultimate, Mandriva 2008 PowerPack & Ubuntu all running on various PCs at home & have to say Vista will never become industry standard! & given the choice I use linux 95% of the time

i hate to say this but win xp is a good operating system. i have a amd turion 64, dual booting ubuntu gusty and xp home edition. i was very impressed when i updated to gusty form fiesty. i must say it outclassed mr.xp. and the compiz fusion was definitely ez to set up. ubuntu gusty takes it, fiesty was more comparable to xp. but gusty puts xp to shame. also i had a ati 200m card, with the broadcom. fiesty gave me hell with that, but gutsy was a piece of cake.

i just read where someone said that vista was better than ubuntu. all i have to say is, fuck you! cause vista glitches every ten seconds, and the maddening thing is that most people think its a virus, when its just a shitty vista. im a computer tech, i fix windows computers, and there is no fixing vista, you have to delete the os and reboot about once a month if you want vista to work its best. so thats why i stick with ubuntu. fuck vista

Ya, had vista ultimate (x64) on an AMD Phenom 2.6Ghz, 4 GB ram and 2 TB HDD (500GB x4 raid) and the start-up time was a shocking 15mins, from a fresh build. Great. Fixed that with XP a wonderful 40 seconds startup time, once fully built with applications and all updates. Oh and to point out: vista used 1GB of memory when Idleing, and yes i do know about background services ect ect. Apologies for the rant, all done :P. Besides Linux beats XP and vista anyway.
