@LiquidSmooth Sorry if this comment is outdated, but the drafters of the constitution were mostly deist and make no mention of god in the constitution. Deists deny the divinity and miracles of Jesus suggested in the bible.

Hmmm... I wonder if this whole speech was in light if the Mormon church's direct involvement with proposition 8? Should a religion have the right to fund a political cause with their tax-free money? Interesting point to think about.

Freedom of Religion is a lie.

In the business world If I asked for every sabbath day off from work I would just be replaced with someone willing to be more cooperative to the needs of the business.

There is no laws put in place to protect religious beliefs in the job world otherwise their would be lawsuits on a daily basis.

Separation of Church and state means just that. All religions does not just mean all denominations of Christianity. When the Constitution was written less than 10 percent of the population were active members of a church. Freedom of Religion also means Freedom from Religion. When a contemporary church tells it's members who to vote for, they are a PAC, and they should lose their tax exempt status.

Freedom of Religion by the definition of the Founding Fathers, means freedom of denomination, because they believed the only true Religion was the CHristian faith. False religions were not religions at all in their eyes. That is why many state constitutions said a state canidate must believe in Jesus CHrist. And no founding father protested this, so obviously it didnt go against what they thought was freedom of religion

If we had freedom of religon in the context of what the ACLU believes, we would lose all our rights, cause this country is founded on the principle that we have God given rights, that we can know who God is and what His will is through studying the Bible. But when you claim you dont know what the true God is, then you allow government and man to TELL you what your rights are and thus stand in jeopardy of losing all rights. You may be correct. But it was more than just them that contributed to the Founding of this country.

But they did right, in the Declaration of Independence, that are rights come from God.

But to say we have a right, we must know God first, or else how can you know God gave us any rights or what those rights are?

One does not have to believe in God to say we have a Right. Though one would have to believe in God to believe in God Gven rights,

Seneca the Younger, a Roman Stoic Philosopher, pointed out that while a man may be physically a slave in his mind he can imagine in his own mind as much Freedom as he logically could.

The Theory of the State of Nature and Natural Rights is pretty much a non-religious basis for the Doctrine.

I do not prefer faith based arguments when it comes to our rights.

THeory of the State of Nature and Natural Rights, is based on presumptions and opinion, not facts.

You cannot find an absolute reason for right or wrong, without a faith based perspective.

God is truth. God is also the designer. ANd only the designer can declare its creation's designed purpose and intent. One the Designer declares that, if it isnt working according to that design, it is working WRONG, and if it is then it is working RIGHT.

Something that is created from the result of an ACCIDENT, as in evolution, no one can say if it is working right or wrong, because the thing which created it in the first place, no no foresight in mind behind its creation.

Evolution believes we came from a mindless universe by random chance (an accident). So therefore you cannot declare a right or wrong, it is all opinion.

Ahh, but as we have expanded on the idea of " all men were created equal" we can do so with Freedom of Religion. Dont forget that the country founded by Christians but built on the backs of Muslims, Wiccans, and other indigenous believers.

Again, read my previous comments. To have absolute rights, one must acknowledge who God is. If you say no one can know for sure who God is, then in essence you say one cannot know their true rights.

ANd if you say "Evolution created all this by accident" then there are no rights, because evolution is a mindless process that had no design in mind, therefore there is no wrong or right way. If it had a design in mind, then you could determine if things worked towards or against it.

Dont misunderstand me, I am a devout muslim and have a deep faith in God. However, I was always raised that Freedom of religion means to be free to practice your faith AND being free from having another's faith imposed on another AND freedom from persecution for having a different faith. That is my definition. Would agree?

That is currently what is promoted in this country. But it is incorrect.

Cause what if someone was a satanist. And wanted to sacrifice animals and people (even willing people).

Under protestant beliefs, you still have freedom to practice faith according to conscience, but there are limitations. While a protestant would never try to force you to believe, like a Catholic would, we still believe that God established rights and liberties, like "thou shall not steal".

Protestants believe God is not a rapist, so to put a gun to your head and force you to worship God would go against what most of us believe.

But we do believe we have God given rights to life, liberty, and property, and that these rights, found in the 10 commandments, are rights given by God to all human beings, whether they acknowledge Him or not.

USA was founded, mainly by Protestants. All the basis for constitutional rights come from their bible.

And that is the stuggle. To practice our faith as best as we can without forcing it on others. As a muslim living in America there is no Sharia law, but I still have the freedom to pursue my faith and live within my religious obligations. I believe freedom of religion works but it has to be a collaborative effort and a constant effort as well.

I'm not an athiest but I'm not a literalist either. ALL diety conceptions are metaphor. So I support these folks. They have more common sence that most Christians. They understand the need to evolve.

A Non-theist here.. I support Baldwin and Nader, but Chuck got my vote for two reasons.. 1. He is more of a strict constitutionalist, and 2. statements like this calmed my views of him being overly theocratic.. If he didn't make his views on religious freedom crystal clear, I wouldn't have voted for him. Third party candidates don't have a good chance, but one vote is no less real than any other vote. It's our duty to take part, and use our minds.. Screw the establishment. Revolt will come..

If you end the IRS and the 501-things then this problem goes away. Freedom of religion is sacrosanct and no government should be allowed to interfere. But if religious organizations go after the tax-free stuff then they open themselves up to abuse and regulation. God helps those who help themselves and religoous organizations should extracate themselves from the government and their restrictions. Cancel the IRS.

We need a government which is inspired by religion...but does not meddle in religion. Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslims, New-Agers, Athiests, and Agnostics would all be welcome at a round table...with no one at the head of the table. Go Chuck Baldwin...the next President of the United States!
