@bingoe4 I've had the same experience. My mom converted when I was 6. I bapttized my father at the age of 16, after which I fell away from the church. I've prayed and prayed and prayed, but never had that "burning in my bosom", or any answer at all, that I could discern.
I still respect the church for their good works and their teachings. However, I've found it impossible so far (I'm almost 57) to accept Joseph Smith as a prophet.
