  • GUATEMALA RULES GRINGOS MOTHERFUCKERS!!! AND AMERICANS SUcKS ALL OF YOU!!! ABAJO EL IMPERIO VIVA EL CHE Y CHAVEZ!!!!!!!

  • I seem to recall the U.S. was a small group of colonies that overthrew a repressive govt. So why can't these people or other 3rd world ctries? Only thing standing in their way of having a developed society is themselves. Colonists did it. Any country could do what the U.S. did if they discarded a 'victim' or socialist idea that all should share and approached life as U.S. did. Even with the warts it still built this country.

  • @TheDissident77 we had only muskets and canon fire to fight against they have Tanks, Jets, and Ditsroyers to deal withall they have to fight back with is AK 47s and RPGs. Like an alley-cat standing agains a lion

  • Why are the nicest people , the smaller ego'ed , more apreichative , better stronger people than us westernised countrys but i think its not about there goverments about the people affected. Id prefer to count one strong hearted Guatemalain as a friend than 2000000000 of the ungreatful people i know exist listening to lady gaga and worrying about if susie texts before zach , aint it a shame

  • oh people...

you´ll never know what it is

    until you see it...

There is no place in the world like Guatemala...

  • I love this vid. Thx for your efforts. The song is another quirky gem from REM. Stipe's song writing is totally unique.

  • not that unique...

  • Poison mushrooms "bloom at night" i.e. covert operations. That's why they "cover over everything".

  • realmente hermoso todo lo que tiene que ver con Guatemala

  • Great video...thanks for sharing your once in a lifetime experience. Your pictures are stellar and the message is clear. I'm an old timer and this is my favorite REM song.

  • I always thought this song was about a mushroom trip...it mentions...Amanita.

  • Wow! That was terrific. Nice match.

  • that was great. this is one of my favorite bands and this song is good

  • Yeah its kinda sad. But I liked to show US/ People giving something back =) The CIA overthrew a democratically-elected government

because it was restricting U.S. corporate interests (The United Fruit Company)

    there. The CIA has

supported and planted a succession of military dictators in power. Those dictators and the military machines they upheld have slaughtered a

total of 110,000 Guatemalan peasants over the years.

  • Nirvana..good video, great song...that guitar riff is pure Buck genius!

The US trained and armed military used torture to suppress dissent in Guatemala. In the 30 years up to 2000 over 150000 civilians have been killed, tens of thousands simply disappeared and over 1 million have been left refugees!

  • se llaman "Los Desaparecidos"

  • Can you mention the participation of Cuba, German Democratic Republic, communist Nicaragua and other countries behind the Iron Wall, in the training and organization of communist guerrillas in Latin America also? They organized attacks to bridges, electricity towers, urban guerillas, they blackmailed ranchers, mined extensive areas of rainforest, kidnapped ambassadors and so on....this was cold war and both sides shitted on us...

  • Thats like saying that nazis shouldnt be condemned as atrocious because W.W. II was a war between them and the allies and both sides were opponents. In Guatemala there was military oppression. You must learn history. The republican government backed a coup in 1954 that overthrew a democratically elected government in Guatemala and replaced it with a fascist dictatorship. Years of extreme suffering were the result. There was no communist dictatorship, but there was a brutal tiranny anyway.

  • Yes, I know what happened. The CIA ex-members confessed everything (this was taped). Ï know there were military dictatorships, replacing each other after some years thorugh "coupt d'etat" and they were ruthless. But, what about the "guerrilla" story? Which countries supported them with weapons and training? Which ideologies and propaganda used with the people? Why, bridges, electricity towers, kidnaps and blackmail were so important for them?

  • beautiful! sweet! great song!
