Chan Marshall is as close to perfect as you can get... in every way. She is the most talented artist there is... she is SO humble and HONEST and has no pretentiousness whatsoever. THAT is why she was able to get it together and not go the way of Kurt Cobain. She is so in touch with herself and candid that any type of therapy she received was immediately put to use. She is so insightful.

You ROCK, Chan! You are my hero! Everything I've heard from her music and interviews are AMAZING!!! LOVE her!

Maybe what you're noticing is that she hasn't had much formal education. Intelligence and education are different things.

So maybe she doesn't use convoluted academic language or try so hard to sound "smart" like many other musicians.

I think it's all the more amazing when a person can draw theoretical conclusions about the world from their own lived experience. That is intelligence.
