@gr33ndestLny beacause it's fucked up to do with accuracy, kareem was crazy , he shot sky hooks from the baseline, the free throw line(not free throws of course) , with an amazing accuracy, the key his in his accuracy, it's almost impossible to do it that good.if your gonna make sky hooks to hit 1 in 10 then it's not worth it.

I just recently got into shooting the skyhook, after only 3 sessions of practice I'm already decent. Not bad for being only 6'4" on the court.

@YoooPatrick I have great days and terrible days, sometimes I just launch it from beyond the free throw line and it swishes, other days it will airball, so its consistent on a certain day, just not the same everyday. I've used it less recently because I've developed some other more reliable shots like reverse jumpers, fades and dunks. But there are some times when this is my best shot so I will use it in those situations.

@YoooPatrick Literally all I did was just first practice the over the head hookshot towards the rim, head on, then I would just mess around. By that I mean start doing it off of steps, from different areas and such. What I've learned is to get it to go the straightest, you need to make sure your arm is always fully extended and stretched when releasing. Any bend or relaxation in the tension will ruin it. Just don't spend more than 10 mins on it each session, you can hurt your shoulder. Pain=stop

i tell you guys, no matter how sick you are with your dribbling and skills, it always comes back to the basics, even in the nba. master the skyhook, and you will never have to fear anyone tall marking you. even if he's as tall as yao ming.

why not? he is the leading scorer in history and he released the ball at around 11-12 ft so by the time the defender could get a hand near it, the ball would already be around 12-13 ft....not to mention he shot it at 60% makes...why would he ever do something else?
