  • jesus this guy is teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrible!! wyclef saved the song

  • LOve this !

  • Soul Asylum was around before Nirvana. They started putting out albums in the 80's. The only reason most never heard of them around that time was because they were a part of the underground scene which spawn grunge. So, to say he is a Kurt Wannabe is actually stating that you do not know your musical history.

  • Does anyone know why this song only plays out one side of my headphones wierd. Also what year is this from?

  • Soul Asylum released there first album in 1983 so saying nirvana influenced them sounds stupid however they had zero commercial success until 1994s grave dancers union which does sound like Nirvanas Nevermind but who knows

  • great great version, I'd never heard it before, thanks for uploading!

  • This is a simply awesome video

  • Umm, i don't hear any sound

  • turn your speakers up real loud. It's there. I didn't hear it at first either haha.

  • Comment removed

  • fucking greedy corporations ,have take out of youtube, the greatest version of BACK DOOR MAN BY IGGY POP AND SOUL ASYLUM; SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE TO GET IT BACK PLEASE

  • The audio you can get on the Concert for the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. It's on there with their version of "Sweet Jane" when they're backing Lou. Hope this helps.

  • thanks dude

  • You're quite welcome. It's a damn good double disc. Only wish they'd put on the Beatles and Byrds covers the Gin Blossoms did, and let on Lou's dedication to Sterling Morrison before the song started. You don't get to hear Ig introduce Lou either, but the audio is there. That version of "I Wanna Be Your Dog" they segue into is the best I've ever heard. Ya listen to it and feel like you need a week long shower.

  • Got to buy it off of iTunes, dude!

  • AWESOME

  • 2 NICE

  • Very nice , despite the mono sound !

  • can someone post this with better adio quality you can hardly hear it?

  • i have this on an ancient vhs tape..ty so much for sharing this on here

  • Whats VHS Tape? lol jk

  • hmm..... sounds familar.. Video Has Suckiness?? ooooo Video home s.. no IDK :P gotta love Wyclef

  • Cant you try to Upload it here? in higher quality? pleeeeeeeeeeease

  • anyone know when this was filmed?

  • does anybody know where you can get the bass tabs for this version of this song??

  • this is the best version ever !

  • No... this song is originally by Wyclef. He was nominated for a grammy for Gone til November in 1999. It is a great cover tho

  • when was this filmed?

  • agree 100% he had the kurt look before kurt

  • Just noticing the youngsters remarks about Dave as a Kurt wannabe. This is about as smart as Miss Teen South Carolina's "the iraq" remarks. I love the so-called grunge era, don't get me wrong, but Pirner was "grunge" long before Cobain. Cobain, but not all Seattle bands, lifted a lot of his style from Minneapolis bands like Soul Asylum, The Replacements, and Husker Du.

  • There was a lot of diversity in "grunge" anyway. I think that Soul Asylum and Nirvana actually had very little in common. Also, I think that all those "grunge" bands never thought of themselves as "grunge" before that marketing term was thought up by the press. But yeah, Soul Asylum's first album was made a whole 10 years before Nirvana's "Bleach".

  • I agree totally with ya'll....wasn't "loud fast rules" thier first album?...either way- what a great time. Every band back then held hands back down to what being American punk actually meant- doing your own thing.

  • AMEN!!

Unless you were there and understood that STP, Soul Asylum, and Sound Garden were'n the same kind of bands, you're lost. bparpart, you said it exactly as it was, and is!!

  • @bparpart Very well said. Cheers!

  • Pretty good mix. Wyclef is realy flexable and diverse.

  • ...This was the original song.

  • No, Wyclef is the original. He has sole publishing/song-writing credit.

  • awesome version of the song!

  • I wasn't really feeling this till wyclef came out. Yeah, wyclef made this version listenable.

  • Saw Dave and the boys on a flight from Vegas. Sat a row in front of me, complete with second-hand "VW Driver's Wanted" cap and tall-boy Budweiser.

  • pretty damn good

  • WTF? I am one of Kurt Cobains Biggest Fans. hell i named my boy after him. But Dave is FAR from a wannabe Kurt.. they both totally had there own styles of music and of being.

so they both wore ripped jeans? ummm sooo did everyone back in those days. hell i still do.

dont talk shit. Kurt and Dave are both amazing artists in there own way. and i love them both.... *sexes*

  • you seriously name your kid after curt? that's hardcore

  • ripped jeans are the best

  • I saw them do this song at the Minneapolis music festival and I totally started to cry! I was so happy!

  • Quite Cobain-like hairstyle...

  • NOPE> quite Dave Pirner-like hairstyle.

  • That guy from Soul Asylum should wash/comb his hair...

    That's a good version though.

  • Nice work!!!!!!!!!!!

    Look at this too: watch?v=Izg367L3Vzk

  • This isn't emo.

  • this is from 1998. originally aired on vh1. this band is waaaaay before emo. otta check the facts before you assume.

  • Emo has been a genre since the 1980s.

  • What a dumb ass comment.

  • yeah right sucker but this is oldschool shit..long time before your mother had sex with a dog

  • how old is this vid? thx for the post

  • is dave pirner the coolest guy ever? is there a trophy for that? cos, really, i think he should just get like...mvp of the world.

  • You can also catch Soul Asylum right on the beach FREE and eats lots of seafood in the process at Hollywood Beach, Florida at the Clambake Festival on Sat. Sept. 29, 2007 at 9pm. The festival dates are Sept. 28, 29, 30, and other acts include The Romantics, New Orleans' own Porter Batiste Stoltz, and funky trombone brass band Bonerama. All FREE.

  • yeah good for the most part

  • Loved Dave's "Driver's Wanted" hat and tall can of Bud (carry on) while on a recent flight from Vegas to MSP.

  • awesome to finally see the footage...Dave !!!

he's cracking up as wyclef goes fierce on the final chorus...

role reversals on the road to ruin by guys who know the story all too well...classic song...great performance... i hope no one makes you tube delete this...

  • i love you wyclef your the best, i prefer the solo wyclef version in the airport

  • Cool ^^ I love this Song!

  • Dave(L) Dave (L) Dave (L) Dave (L)!!!!!!!

  • thanks a lot for posting this! I had this taped.. but I lost it..

its a pity the audio is so low.. but thanks anyway! :)

  • Love this song! its just pure awsomeness that my fav band, Soul Asylum, is playin this!

  • I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say that ShoFyke is a 15 year old kid that just discovered the "grunge movement" and thinks that alternative music didn't exist before Nirvana.

    Am I right?

  • Can someone tell me when this was filmed? In the concert video Matchbox 20 Live in Australia, Rob Thomas sings the chorus of this song during "Long Day." Who did it first?

  • long live soul asylum! david ...dan..all all their fans

  • Dave is no Kurt. Dave sings better and plays better guitar and writes better lyrics. Also Kurt was a Soul Asylym fan.

  • YES I AGREE (although I'm not sure if Kurt said he was a SA fan - I don't really care anyway)

  • Who cares if Dave believes he is Kurt Cobain. This is a great performance, and a great song.

  • What would make you even think to say that? Dave Pirner was making music long before Kurt Cobain came around. Soul Asylum was dubbed best live band in America before Nirvana even debuted.

  • Dude take a look at some of Soul Asylum's early performances from the 80's. Dave's always played and looked(other than when he had dreads) like that. Get a clue. I gaurentee you, Dave Pirner is not now, nor was he ever trying to be like, play like or look like Kurt Cobain.

  • thats your opinion i guess

  • It's a fact actually. Unless David Pirner saw the future and thought maybe if by the late 90's when Soul Asylum had dropepd in popularity, looking like Kurt Cobain could really help the band. Maybe a magazine cover!! Pull your head out.

  • you got a thing for dave pirner? fuck man i got my opinion and i really dont give a fuck about this. shit i don't even remember typing the original message, must have been drunk or something but it says my name so i must have done it.

  • wow everyone just shut the fuck up about him "looking" like kurt cobain how could he if he didnt even know him probably when he looked like that i hate how if guys have long blonde hair everyone thinks they are copying Kurt i love both bands and i'm a HUGE nirvana fan so just stfu ok and pay attention to the song not the looks

  • the seong is gone till november, came out after kurts death so i really think he would have heard of kurt cobain. by the way i was listening to nirvana since you were in diapers so dont try and come off righteous.

  • The point is anybody saying Dave is trying to look like Kurt is an idiot. I was istening to Soul Asylum before Nirvana was even a thought. Dave looked like this in the late 80's. Just look at any old footage or the videos. People are idiots to think he's trying to copy Kurt's look.

  • Thank you... It really is not about the looks but now days thats all people care about!

  • lol the dumbasses account got closed

  • VERY NICE

  • nice performance, Wyclef deff holds it down.

  • Well it is his song lol.

  • Dave is best EVER!

i love his Hair and Voice <3

  • cool video...i dont remember TNT showing concerts..do they still?

  • Soul Asylum rules!! Wyclef is cool too. I've alwasy liked that song but this version kicks. I love Dave's voice even if it's not "good" in the classical sense. Thanks for posting this.

  • Kick ass vid

  • Awsome!

  • First here!

    Nice!

    I was here!
