people call Elivis the king of rock...I say "Who the hell?" "Buddy Holly Ritche Valens and The Big Bopper (Richard J Peterson) Are da kings" Michael Jacson gone to soon? HELL NO!!! He was 50 Ritche he was 17!!!!!! Buddy was 22 3: Sad Chazzy 3:
R.I.P. Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper aka (Richard J Peterson)... They were all gone too soon. I heard some one say that if it were not for Elvis, Carl Perkins, Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper, there would not have been any Rock n Roll....
@jdp201eliz Not to mention...I don't know much about the Big Bopper, but Buddy and Ritchie were about as squeaky clean, nice, respectful guys as you could ask for...not a breath of scandal or drug use or any of the BS that took out a lot of other young singers and musicians. Very sad.
I was just thinking, as I watched this again, that their music started a music genre that has since kept young generations forever young!! I was just a toddler when they died, but I remember my parents reactions to rock-n-roll, only in their late 20s and early 30s, as one of shock and almost revulsion. These talented musicians gave us freedom to be young, feel young (and sexy), to sweat and jump and move (taboo for girls, esp.) long after youth turned into middle, then old age.
@jdp201eliz I couldn't agree with you more. I am so sick and tired of hearing about Michael Jackson. He'd still be alive if he wasn't on all those drugs being given to him. RIP Buddy, Ritchie, and The Big Bopper :(
@otta653 ,sadly not much to chose from.... take a plane fly in bad weather or be on a bus and risk frezzeing to death. to bad they didn't just wait out the bad weather. it's a shame they died so young but they left a lot of great music and inspired future singers.
I got to be at the crash site 3 days after the 50th anniversary while passing through to DC. I'd recommend this side-trip to anyone, it's definitely worth the while. If you see a KZOK keychain inside the blue T-Bird toy at the site, I put it there!
the way radio announcers talked back then, always putting on a show, no matter what they're reading. & I thought entertainment anchors nowadays ham it up.
Its so sad hearing this. Ricthies is so young. He died at age 17. It makes me cry hearing this. He said that he was scared of flying and getting in a plane crash because his best friend died in one. O poor ricky. He will be loved and missed. SOOOOOO SAD. He would have loved being in this world with his family but now it........he died. R.I.P. ricky :'(
You can sure say they're legands because im only 14 and i still listen to their music, Buddy holly is one of my idols and will always be. i even cried on the Feb. 3 this year. May they all R.I.P♥
Such a tragedy. The music they left is still being played and they still inspire many musicians. God rest their souls and may they continue to play together in the afterlife.
One of the saddest days in history of rock...I would say the saddest, but many other tragedies including John Lennon, happened later. I've been playing 50's music, in a commemoration of these greats. Their music will live on!!
Now look what the world has; Britney Spears, Amy Sluthouse, The Jonas Faggots, Christina I'm-A-Gorilla, effeminate fem Clay Aiken, and High School Musical. no talent whatsoever.
Real tragedy. The Big Bopper was cool, and he seems like a nice guy... And Richie... He had tremendous talent, and was a great performer. His surviving works are Rock n Roll classics.
But Buddy Hollie... Just think of all the really great music never written, and the songs that would never be sung... It's just too sad.
just think how ritchies, buddy's and the big bopper's family reacted when they heard this ?? buddy holly was going to be a father but when he died his wife suffered a miscarriage due to the shock. so sad
I heard there was supposed to be another person on the plane, but he have up his ticket last minute. and buddy told him "i hope your damn bus freezes up" and i guess the guy said "oh yeah, well i hope your gd plane crashes." Can you imagine going through life always thinking that you were responsible for killing 3 of rock n rolls greatest stars? thats some fucked up stuff man.
I realise it was the presenting style of the day, and they were 'only' stars of the 'current rock'n'roll faze' and therefore fairly unimportant to anyone over the age of 20 but surely that newsreader could have sounded a little more sombre? I mean four young people have died.
He sounded like he was delivering baseball scores.
