  • i am watching this on a mac book pro 2011

  • Hooly Shiit, Photoshop opening up in 3 seconds???? that's insane, waiting for the next-gen SDDs they're gonna be awesome

  • Did you have just the SSD in or was it in there with say another hard drive for files?

  • Hilarious!!!!

  • I just bought an 80gb Intel SSD on Ebay for $100....cannot wait to get it!

Good video too! I purchased an intel SSD based on this video, so THANK YOU!

  • LOL Asian Porn

  • I been looking at these SSD drives also, but I am thinking of setting up at least a 3GB ramdisk in memory to speed things up a bit.

  • mine does't have that door on the bottom...

  • Have fun with your slot drives...lmfao

  • Phil looks like a legend

  • @gtbr24 Phil is a good guy, family man with a second kid on the way, and a very good graphic artist. Thanks for watching!

  • @adiblasi I'd be mates with Phil haha

  • @fiercex Replies are modulated based on the intellectual level of the source comment.

  • @adiblasi Modulated? As in, altered in pitch?

  • 0:52 is like opening scene of a porno

  • @FATTONYMAFIAOVERLORD HAHA Too funny - your comment is coming from someone who's YouTube homepage has the image of a dude, on a bed, with his legs spread open. Must be a reason why you like that video...

  • Much better grasp if you copy a large file into a new folder, or from a disk image.

  • Close your eyelids once in a while, bro. :)

  • I have a MacBook Pro 2.53 GHZ (the newer model which is newer than this) and it boots in 28 seconds. I have a 250GB HDD, not SSD. This has an SSD and mine boots faster. I'm pretty sure that this can run applications faster though.

  • No pc EVER boots in under 1 minute

  • @weinerschnitzelboy Lol, keep thinking that. Most new ones do, provided you don't have too much crap in the startup folder.

  • mine takes about 40 seconds =)

  • my 5k alienware does ;)

  • 30 sec big deal.. my asus k50 boots up in 15 sec. n it costs less then the ssd alone.

  • Hey fellas... don't just head for it blindly.

It reads fast and opens apps fast but

there's a weakness to it as well. When

you actually finish your work and save it

it may be a little slower than SATA drives

when it comes to writing data back into SSD.

For graphic & 3D designers, if you're looking

for a disk for rendering, it'll be much more

safer to stick to SATA, at least for now...

  • @imprezaver4 But TRIM is supposed to correct this, right? (Provided you are on Win7 & your SSD supports TRIM).

  • @imprezaver4 SSDs are SATA. SATA is the drive interface. You are talking about HDD

  • sorry... my mistake... you're right...

    SATA disc-platter hard drives...

  • of asian porn lol

  • wow... that ssd is 270 dollars now

  • where is that drive for sale for $270? I want to buy it!

  • sorry i meant the 80GB is 270... -_- the 160GB in the video that cost him 800 dollars is now $534.99 on macsales ((dot)) com!

  • update: its now $450 at tinyurl ((dot)) com/yj78x24

  • now as of march 1st it is 507.99!! the prices keep dropping

  • macs are so well designed

  • @nosiriwonthaveapples - for people that just want their computer to "work" but don't care about the details :-)

  • Hey Alfred, you think it's worth an additional $800 for a 2009 15 Macbook Pro with 256GB of SSD?

  • no its not

  • @JSantana319 Simply put - no. The SSD drives Apples ships with their machines blow...hard. Just get your MBP with the lowest end HD you can and pick up an SSD later. Cheaper and better than Apple.

  • although the load time for the photoshop file is impressive, the boot time is rather... average

  • @HardGayd YouTube is full of booting videos, which I really don't care about. I want to see that hard drive in action and a fast booting is not as impressive for me as opening Photoshop in 3 seconds.

  • HOLY!!!

  • you rockk dude, love your videos! SUBSCribed!

  • Check out some of my other videos -- some are even more annoying and unfunny. Specifically, check out my review of the MacBook Pro 17". It's total rubbish.

  • HAHA, i go mentioning your fill featured reviews and you go mention asian porn lol.

  • As nice as solid-state technology sounds, well, i really don't want to invest in a SSD drive until the cost per gigabyte ratio balances out.

  • TRIM support is a must as well.

  • Marty - ok, and your BMX pinhole camera video was an incredible video with outstanding quality and unreal stunts.

Don't talk shit when you are posting shit, you ass.

  • Excellent reply adiblasi!!

Why are they even watching videos they think are "retarded".

Your videos are excellent, always come to your channel for full featured reviews.

  • NOT

  • Wow Win 7 go home.

  • lol.... mine is not solid state, and it runs significantly faster actually.

  • It took ages for SSD to arrive in HK. Makes the macbook pro so much more durable, faster and greener. Brilliant.

  • awesome! i want one but my macs running just as fast so...

  • i just bought samsung stock. they make 70% of all flash memory, regardless of whos name is on it. your speed is only as good as your slowest component. ssd standard in 7 yrs. the next revolution in computers!

  • SSDs are the future. I think every computer will use SSD in future because it consumes less power, is a lot faster, and does have a spinning disk inside that could get dislodged like in SATA, PATA, IDE and other disk based storage devices.

  • I came.

  • "that was a bad joke but whatever"

  • Hi, I would like to ask Phil that does he still use that SSD in his Macbook Pro?

I don't think that the X25-M is a good choice becuase even I am using the X25-E on my ThinkPad has the speed downgrade problem but not as serious as the X25-M. I would like to ask have he tested the X25-E on his Macbook Pro? If yes, it's a very interesting topic.

  • lol i cant spell apple

  • ROFL "Thats almost as fast as my Allple ]["

  • cute iPhone. she's real good for texting and driving :)

  • Gotta love having to hold it with two hands, and look at the keyboard occasionally to see that you didn't fuck up your typing.

Try a physical keypad for once, and txt and drive with it.

But when it comes to iPhone apps? Thats where it's decent.

  • 30 seconds from pressing the button to already loading applications.

    Nice. :)

  • photoshop started hell quick! :)

  • That was some fast bloody boot time :P

  • this intel ssd is the option from apple website?

  • lol azn porn..LOL

  • dam thats fast!

  • HD footage,Xcode projects, documents (school),

    and just installing stuff

  • SSD will never take the place of the conventional HDD because of its limited re-write, because by the time they manage to match the price/storage of conventional HDD, the DataSlide Square Platter will be released.

  • within 6 months i used 0.5 of my 500GB

  • im waiting on a 320gb or 500gb SSD

  • I waiting till 500GB is £60 lol:)

  • me too

  • but waiting til its affordable

  • YouTude is this good??

  • Also when u order in apple online what ssd is? i mean, samsung, intel, ocz?

  • wow is too fast!!!

    GO SSD RIGHT NOW1

  • i heard you can 'raid' ssds? ..you can use 2 or more at the same time, can you put more than one ssd in a normal laptop/macbook pro?

also is it better to have a lower processor and an SSd or a faster processor but with a HDD??

    thank you

  • you can raid ssds, , you can raid as many of them as you want BUT ,, your southbridge and sata controller have to support RAID , ,jus look up in the bios if u have raid option, , you can raid on mac book , but you will need to remove the dvd drive because there is no place for another hdd, , some high end laptops can support 3 - 4 hdds,

  • macs don't use bios everything just works

  • they use open firmware

  • macs use EFI (extended firmware interface)

  • macs use EFI (extended firmware interface)

  • who gave this thumbsdown?...its not false info?

  • Intel Macs use EFI, PowerPC Macs use Open firmware

  • nice studio

  • THATS FREAKING INSANE!

I used my cousins MBP and thought that was fast! I should tell him to get a SSD!!!!!!!!

  • I can't help but say that your friend Phil looks alot like the actor Tim Robbins. Other than that that ssd was amazing!

  • see I watched this just after the Apple Lisa video..

    hahah.

  • I really don't see what the fuss about SSDs is. sure, it doesn't use moving parts and it's fast, but you get a better Price per Gigabyte with a good ol' regular drive.

  • Its stupidly faster, it can take more of a knock, it uses less power, less heat, less noise, less weight. The technology will hopefully retire HDD. And I will convert once the prices start dropping.

  • haven't you heard. there was something wrong with the ssd drives that made it slow down a lot with some time of use. i also heard that you cant defrag it to make it run faster. it eventually corrupts. but its fast

  • defragmenting a SSD doesnt help because there is no physical distance between files

  • That was effin' quick!

  • Macs are the best computers in the world right now

  • Sorry man, but to me a Custom Built PC is.. >_>

I love customizing my Hardware and OS =D

  • lol now it's even easier to steal someones stuff just 2 klicks and you got yourself a ssd

  • just don't leave your macbook laying around!!

  • id get a mac if they weren't extremely over priced

  • Get a white refurbished MacBook. These are fine for ordinary use and SOME gaming like Counter Strike, Spore, and World of Warcraft. They are actually worth their price, trust me.

  • sweet thanks, where can i get them from?

  • If you want something with a warranty, buy it from Apple and get a refurb. If you want something online, check Amazon, Craigslist, or eBay. Apple's price for the computer is about $850 refurbished.

  • yes apple has grat warranty,my power adapter broke because of my rough handling,it was $130 for a new one,i went to the apple store i,didnt even need my receipt, they examined the adapter and said it was strange how it broke but they gave me a new one anyway, also the adapters are available only for $65 used and new

  • There not.

they just dont have a crap section in their range

  • My computer was under 800AU, it has a core 2 quad, 500gb HDD, 9500GT (Hdmi), Antec Case, 550W Psu, DVD/RW, 4GB RAM

and the macs start at like $2099 And all specs are lower besides DDr3 Ram. (which i can get for about 60-120) depending on the voltage)

Macs OS is better than microsoft i agree, but as far as hardwear, a complete rip

  • i wouldn't have it just for the speed. the battries last waay longer

  • Wow sweet Congrats on the SSD

  • Imagine the SSD speed is way faster than

2 units of Raptor HDD RAIDed.

SSD is the future, but again it's always about

the temperature issue to keep the speed up.

Even a pendrive can slow down due to

constant data transfers to & from the pendrive.

Worth the money, worth the time.

  • So is it worth the upgrade?

  • Did I just see that - I took 2 seconds to open photoshop (cs4?). I opened cs4 on my macbook (the same one, just with HDD) and it took 20 seconds...

  • my macbook open cs4 on 3 second, with hdd, 2 g of ram, 2.4 ghz.

  • what is the form factor of your ssd?

  • all ssd's are 2.5 in.

  • actually they come in 1.8" as well.

  • ok. didnt know that.

  • they come in all sizes.

  • IBM have 3.5" ssd's also :)

  • Theres gotta be a guy somewhere called matt finish.

  • SSDs are still prone to failure as they have a limited number of writes/erases per block (it's far more complicated than that, but that's what it equates to), however they are highly resistant to shocks and temperature fluctuations as compared to mechanical HDDs.

  • this is the future. no moving parts. computers are only as fast as the slowest component in the path (hard drive) ram, bus, system board all have faster transfer rates than a hard drive by far. this is the next big inovation.

  • JESUS H CHRIST, I need one of those for my unibody MacBook 13"

  • Blue mic pop filter in the background..... Nice whateva

  • SSD are the future

  • could u put a ssd in an iMac?

  • its possible. But am not sure

  • Yes, it would be a 3.5" drive though.

  • alright thanks

where would i go to learn how to do this?

  • Speaking from experience regarding opening large files, that is one damn fast computer. Not cheap, but my god fast. Im going to have to rebuild my mac I think cos it should be faster than what it is. Nice one, thanks.

  • Whateva! Knock it off!

  • Great new intro Alfred!

  • I would like to have a SSD in my notebook.

But my notebook only has a IDE connection for the hard drive because it´s 6 years old now. SSD has a SATA connection.

  • Cant you use a converter

  • Don´t think there is a SATA to IDE converter for my notebook.

  • nice alfred!! and great intro too!

  • love the new intro alfred

  • Wow, that was pretty fast. I was impressed with the design of the battery and hard drive removal (very mac pro like).

  • Impressive boot up time! Damn that was fast. Nice video! Rar!

  • Nice

  • Anyone Remember the 2 GB file system barrier? no one thought they'd ever need more room, then HQ video and music came around, boy how quick those GB flew! Same with memory, then multitasking became feasible and all anyone wanted was more RAM!! So by the time these things are cheaper to produce than $150 Apple & M$ are going to be writing programs that benifit from it and, go figure Slow things down again! It's all in Moore's law, as one aspect goes up, the system must level out!

  • I wanted more room than that back in the 80's. 2GB is nothing.

  • That was Fast But way to much money for 800$ i could buy a whole new

but hey in a year or 2 when the price goes down i will be buying one

just think how much the CD Burners were back when they came out

  • whole new computer**

  • I think the old intro was better, but this one is ok.

  • of asian porn, haha

  • I was not so impressed. Not for 800.00.

  • if you buy the apple laptop from apple brandnew they won't charge you $800 bucks for the harddrive, but if you upgrade after you buy the macbook then its more expensive.you have to custom order the sdd from the apple store online.

  • great video.. couldn't help noticing the ENTERPRISE blueprint/poster on the wall..... :-P

    STAR TREK RULES!!! :-p

  • Very nice video Alfred!

  • wow alor faster

  • this days i upgraded my laptops Hdd from a 5400 rpm to a 7200rpm western digital black, its way faster :

  • I Was one of the First to see this on Alfred'a Webcast.

  • AMAZING!!! *SOUND GEEKERY*The vocoder part at the end could use compression.*SOUND GEEKERY*

  • That macbook is kick ass! Shoot its fast!

  • Expensive indeed. But kick ass speed.

  • -It's on a Mac, no Dell.

    -No, No Dell

    :DDD

  • Can anyone guess what Mac laptop Theresa was using in that clip? I know what it is, but do you? = )

  • It is a 12" PowerBook G4.

  • 12" Apple PowerBook G4

  • DING DING DING! Correct! ^_^ As for what model / MHz / GHz speed, I have no clue by just looking at it. All 12" PB models were identical physically.

New trivia question: What version of Mac OS X is running on it?

  • I have a 2.66GHz iMac with 4GB of RAM.

It boots in about 22 seconds.

  • My 2.0GHz dual core Dell Inspiron with 2GB RAM boots in probably 15 seconds. And it was most likely half the cost.

  • Can you ask him where he got that Starship Enterprise poster?

  • damn thats fast...

  • I can't believe how fast OS X booted. Is that a vanilla installation?

  • Of course it is, it's a Macbook. How much more "vanilla" could it get?

  • *complaining and annoying voice* I don't like the new intro =[

  • My MBP boots just as fast (~30 seconds) with a Western Digital 7200 RPM drive and it was 1/8 the cost of that ssd.

  • my powerbook boots fast but it has nothing on the harddrive im not sure wether its a 5400 or 4200 rpm

  • Not sure if PS is the best example for speed up... when I compare this to doing similarly with CS4 on my five year old notebook w/ 5400RPM HDD running Windows 7, there of course is a difference in speed, but I am not impressed.

  • cool
