  • love the video please can you make a leather hood for me

  • how much glue per part water

  • Thank you for sharing you techniques, art & personality. This is a new hobby and II want to make a leather half face, nose to chin, biker mask. How would I go about shapping bottom of eye sockets to keep glasses from fogging up? Any insight would be appreciated. Chow

  • Please, what is the leather called at tandy leather, I need to order this asap! Just dont know which one it is from pictures!!!

    Thanks for all you info!

  • What kind of leather is that? I would like to get my hands on some of it.

  • BASIC! this video could be used for a drinking game...lol

  • thank you so much for posting this! i am working on a costume for Dragon Con & wanted to make it myself. i have an art degree so it just doesn't feel right hiring someone, plus it's far more fun to do it myself(we'll see if i still say that afterwards).

  • thats what she said

  • I know its late, but for those who asked, unfortunately no this technique does not work with vinyl or fake leather. Also it cannot be done with chrome tanned leather. So that pretty green leather you have had your eyes on, sorry it won't work with this technique. I'm not saying you shouldn't make a mask out of it, but the way shown in his video won't quite work. For this technique you'll need a vegetable tanned leather. also for skiving its easier on your tools if you wet the leather first

  • do a plague docter bird mask it is cool, wicked, and historic for all the kiddies ( that and i really like the ones from assassins creed and want to make one)

  • Yes, I'd also like to know what type of leather you are working with here.

  • what kind of leather would that be exactly? I am new to this and there are a lot of types on that website

  • he's using a vegetable tanned leather. Also it looks like he was using a shoulder cut rather than a belly, but I only got a quick look. Belly leather tends to be very stretchy, heads up. If you just want to get your feet wet, Tandy sells single shoulders which is about 5-6 feet of leather for about $30, sometimes its on sale for as low as $15. When I make masks I prefer the 5-6 oz. Its thick but its not so thick that you have to spend a whole lot of time skiving it down.

  • does this work with vinyl?

  • if its too thick, i can't get it in my mouth :i

  • Do you have to use real leather, or can u use fake?

  • I use mannequin heads to give shape and form. usually just make half masks but also full masks. there are so many different options in working leather. using creative objectives to shaping the leather depending on the guage. thanks for the video.

  • what material would you suggest to build up the face form so give a spacific shape?

  • thank you!!!!!!!

    some dirty jokes there........

  • WHHHAAAUUUH THANKS for sharing

  • Im trying to make a half mask i.e. Phantom of the Opera mask got any tips that i could use?

  • what exactly do you order leather wise at tandy leather. I just want to order the same kind of leather that you are using, thanks

  • Its great tht you show how you make them. I was all too curious.. thank you

  • When you soak the leather doesn't the leather shrink when it drys?

  • no, not at all actually....

  • Oh!!! Tutorials even I can follow along with, I had been wanting to try my hands at this for an age. Thanks muchly! Bright Blessings!

  • Thank you so much for posting these tutorials.

I want to try making some masks myself now.

I haven't been able to find a sciver though?

I checked tandy leather factory, but couldn't find it there. Where can I find one?

  • hehe...nevermind I found it.

    Skiver... not sciver!

:) Do you use the suede cowhide?

  • I call it bellyleather...not sure if its suede cowhide, or just cowhide....i will try to find an old receipt...he he
