This song really brings back the painful memories of seeing Mufasa dying. I always hated how the stampede seems to subside right after he was killed. I always think "what if he held on for just a few minutes longer"? :(
I have a question to anyone who has seen the Stampede scene on Broadway.
How did they pull off the fact that they were on-coming wildebeasts? I always imagined they had people in the costumes running across the stage and back around the stage to make it appear like there were infinite amounts.
this song will haunt me till the day i die despite its beauty. last night when i watched this part, i was crying so much that my brother had to put his hand over my mouth
Finally Got To See This Last Weekend In Vegas, I Loved It And I Want It Come To LA So I Can See It Again!!!! This Part Made Me Cry And The People Next To Me Looking At Me Cry Lol During Intermission They Were Talking To Me And I Had To Explain That This Is My Favorite Disney Movie And I Already Knew That Mufasa Was Going To Die. Guess They Never Saw The Movie B4!!!
@Mufasathegodlion Ha ha yeah I got tickets for my birthday in March and went in September. People were confused when I said I was going for my birthday ;)
this was great on broadway. I saw it i few weeks before my 18th birthday last year. This part actually made me cry. After watching the show i couldnt stop crying even when i watched the movie lol
If we did this for my school or for the summer, we would make my director make him wanna hang himself because we would blow it the first time we learn all of these dances and the songs!

The movie had better visuals, thanks largely to being able to pan/zoom the camera, but the stage play's version of the music is far more powerful.

It's hard to explain. they had like a continuous rolling screen with a bunch of different sized wildebeests. it actually looks really convincing.

Best parts (IMO): The choral glissandi, the SFZs going out of the 3/4, and the switch to 6/4 near the end.

Amazing music. We danced to this in one of our High school shows and it was by far the most emotional and intense dance I've ever done.

Lion King was the the first movie I ever saw in theaters (I was a few months old), so it has a special place in my heart.
Listening to this, especially 1:35 - 2:17, made me get teary eyed. Beautiful score.
