@Glennfalconi brighter light do not travel faster, as it is light, it always travel the same speed. and the color is different because there is just a difference in the composition of a star like our sun, thats all. there might be some other reasons too. just look on google
Rigel is the 6th brightest star and Pistol is one of the brightest found. Light travels at the same speed no matter what. The color of the star is different (blue) because of their temperature, stars with temperature of about 25.000 Celsius are blue while at 3000-6000 celcius are red/orange
@Glennfalconi google the doppler effect, red shif and blue shift. planets moving away from us are red towards us are blue something to do with the frequency of ligh waves. Science! Very confusing. Think the composition of suns affects hiw it burns and therefore the color which is how we tell how they are made up.
@Glennfalconi A few things determine a star's color including age and temperature. The cooler the star, the redder it is; conversely the hotter the bluer. Also, the older a star is, the more yellowish/reddish it becomes and the younger, the bluer. Rigel is a young star, maybe 8 millions years old (Our sun is nearly 5 billion years old) and burns nearly 10,000 degrees hotter than our sun. All these together would make this a blue giant star.
@LoungeFly02 The Doppler effect has nothing to do with a star's visible color. It is determined when the star's light (or any celestial object) is split into a prism showing its spectrum. The rainbow of colors will have dark lines appear on the spectrum. These dark lines represent what elements the object is made from. So Hydrogen will always look the same, Helium too, etc.
@LoungeFly02 Knowing this, sometimes those lines move toward one end of the spectrum. If it moves towards the blue side, it's "Blue Shifted" or moving closer to us. If it moves towards the red side, it's "Red Shifted" or moving away from us. Scientists can tell when stars are gravitationally bound to other stars by using this method. That's how we know that most galaxies are moving away from us. That's how we know that Andromeda Galaxy is hurdling towards us.
I Guess Because Rigel is a Spectral Star, So She Must be Blue, Betelgeuse is a red giant, what means that Betelgeuse's time Will be Short, so Rigel will be Blue Always, even when Rigel get Old =D, Betelgeuse must be Yellow on his Adulct period, now his hydrogen has over, andi think the helium too, now he must be burning carbon, Well i guess that your question is answered, Kay? ;*
hahaha,, my name is also Rigel..
I used to think no one is named Rigel besides me ..
I think we should create a club where only people who called Rigel that can enter ..
hahaha..

@EEKSPLEE "travels the same speed"...only in the presence of a vacuum my friend
manbearpigg13 1 year ago
@EEKSPLEE The colour is different becaus the star is either hotter or colder. Cold stars are cold, Hot = Blue ;D
blackbirdflight 1 year ago
@EEKSPLEE the color indicates how hot it is. blues means its around 15,000 or more degrees
frank12364 10 months ago
the colour is diffrent because its a very hot star
Rigel is 11.000 Kelvin
The Sun is 5,780 Kelvin

@tunaclan So if they're brighter they're automatically hotter?

when Betelgeuse dies and goes supernova will it have any effect on Rigel? or is it too far for any impact?
Zeethr 2 years ago
@Zeethr it's very far away from rigel, but the constellation will look very different without betelgeuse.

in space blue means hot and red means colder so this sun would burn earth into dust in a matter of seconds
coolcat111839 2 years ago
One question... why does it shine blue and not yellow or red like other known stars (meaning the stars that i know of)
I'm guessing its a different composition of chemical combustion but i dunno, thats why i'm asking =D
darkmetallink1 2 years ago
All stars are formed by the same elements, Hydrogen and Helium
The color changes in order of the energy that the star emits
Red for lesser, and blue for more energy, caused by the same principle of the match stick, its hotter in its blue part of the flame...
blue fotons are more energetic than red ones... for more search on other places....
