  • I luv this song and while, but when my guitar teacher said one of them was helping him out with his classes and they are from Vista, California (my current hometown) I was really happy. Way to go!!

  • This is my favourite song of all time.

  • wow what a hottie!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i usually hate this kinda music but i love this song its awesome but sad

  • Man why did they have to break up?? Theyre WAY too good!

  • whos the mandolin player and vocalist in this song?

  • chris thile

  • Cris Thile, I think. He´s got some solo stuff out, too. But I like him most with Nickel Creek.

  • Yeah he does.

And if you think he's good now, holy cow

    his solo stuff is incredible!

    Its amazing

  • his solo stuff is good but the most amazing stuff he does is with the Punch Brothers. they used to be how to grow a band and on itunes it says the artist is chris thile for the album how to grow a woman from the ground, even though the band has a name. the 4 movement suite is absolutely incredible. that is a supergroup if ive ever seen one.

  • Cud someone tell me how they understand this metaphor?

  • I don´t think it´s a metaphora. I think it´s a sad story, told from a really intresting, unusual point of view. If anything, I believe that the lighthouse symbolizes contancy, it´s always there and lives longer than human, to watch muman history pass and tell about it.

But that´s just my interpretation, I´d love to hear something else suitable, too.

  • okay the lighthouse is singing and him and his master are like a team his master loves this women and her ship wrecks and then he kills himself so they could be together in heaven

  • These guys deserve so much more than they have been dealt. All their music is so inspired and they have so much talent. I also like 'when you come back down' but this is definately my fave!

  • Nickel Creek's music is so special. Every part of it fits perfectly together.

  • This band is so great , I just wish they found the fame they so richly deserved .

  • I heard this song two days ago and today it is one of my favorites.

It's a brilliant metaphor, sung and played so beautifully.

    Reminds me of myself.

  • Awesome song~!

Sad song, but the tune is so upbeat at the same time.

  • Love this music and the location too; Where I can go in holidays there? seems like atlantic-side...lol

  • The location in Nubble lighthouse in York, Maine.... They are also walking the streets of Portsmouth, NH in this video too! Wish I had known about the group when this video was made, would've been fun to be there when they did the shoot.. Only live 20 minutes from both locations!

  • I love this music so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome song and voices! :)

  • awesome song! :)

  • Chills all over during the last chorus. They better get back together soon, the music world is hurting without them together.

  • very song :)

  • I never knew the words to this song. They are so gloriously sad. I remember the first time I heard this song and saw this video. I was impressed at the young, modern but dignified mix of bluegrass and country. I remember thinking "...I hope there's going to be more like this".

  • this song is amazing. its so sad but man i love it. Normally i don't even like this kind of music but my friend showed me this song and wow im in love... haha im on my brothers profile thingy so don't think hes weird or anything

  • god, im inlove with this son. it is so beautiful....but really sad. first song i heard from nickel creek, and man im so happy i found them! wish they hadnt broken up though. :(

does anybody know were this was filmed? its beautiful.

  • I love being able to read the lyrics while listening.. I love how well done their songs are.

  • I bet im the only black girl who loves this song to death

  • hahaha... that is the best comment I've read in my life.

If your name has to do with the books from the Twilight Series.. then AMEN. I love those books, they are my favorites.

  • haha...i just cracked up a bit.

perhaps the music should be spread :-)

  • my name is not about the books...lol but i did read them...and as far as being black..its not even that...im just the only one of my friends white, black, or whatever...that loves nickelcreek...lol

  • i guess i kind of get where you're coming from but come on, music is universal. that's what's so great about it. just saw you have les mcCanns compared to what in your faves and that's always been one of my favourite songs ever. i'm 'white' and a thought like yours never crossed my mind. ;)

  • Yea i dont see things that way...but i grow up in a area where alot of my friends be it black or white just did not understand my music choices...lol....and its sad cus as much as i love my friends they just wont hear me out ...i try but its all about r and and hip hop with them.....i dont have other close friends that enjoy alot of the music just very few...

  • lol yeah, probly ;)

  • this song makes me feel sad

  • SAD SONG!! LUV IT THO! boring video:(

  • This song makes me cry....

*looks down at ground and wipes eyes*

I feel bad for the poor keeper

  • This was filmed about 30 min away from my grandparents house. The most beautiful place ive ever seen. this is truly one of the songs of my childhood.

  • I love this song...

it's on one of my dad's CD's that's in my car, and I'd listen it on repeat if I could!

  • Now I know why Jon Foreman wanted those guitars!

  • One of my favorite songs

  • i will admit destruction man is right... Sarah Watkins does have breasts

  • she does, I checked

  • hey masterkorn

You wouldn't know good music if it stuck its dick in your mouth.

  • Why would good music orally rape people........good music is a gentle lover.

  • haha i agree

  • I LOVE CHRIS THILE.

  • what kind of poor comment is that? instead of wasting everyone's time trying to provoke anger, go get a real life and make yourself worth something. these people are way above your status.

  • Dude whatev. Go watch Rihanna and Britney videos.

  • Good Song

  • i love this song so much... wen i waz younger i didnt understand what it meant. and it turned out the girl the keeper loved died in a boat crash :(

  • Raddd songgg :D:D:D

  • gosh darn, this song makes me cry at the end! but i love it !

  • I'm singing this song at the talent show <3

  • He held me when I was a baby.

  • The singer is my cousin and it is not a joke.

  • bull crap. you wish he was your cousin!

  • I am hoping to find sheet music for this song for the violin part. can anyone help me? Please and thank you

  • I love your penname because it's TRUE! NICKEL CREEK IS AMAZING!

  • absolutely beautiful and nothing less.

  • somehow the first song i ever hear from any band happens to be the one i like most from them and guess what? i love this one the most from them! it's gorgeous

  • This was the first song i ever heard of this band many many moons ago an i loved it! Years and years have gone past an you know what? I still love it! Ive got all their albums. If you get chance you should buy them... You wouldn't be disappointed i promise you. Great band :D

  • I went to my music class in school and we were listing to different kinds of music. My teacher played this so we could study it. I went home that day to listen to it... but my stupid new neighbors were putting in their phone line and they cut my phone line while they did it. Lol I <3 this song! Sorry if the story was boring. xP

  • when i was in high school, my vocational teacher made each of us make a powerpoint and teach a chapter in the book. she always played songs that had to do with the lessons. I had to do a presentation on suicide, and I played this song before my presentation...my brother made me a cd of songs and I picked this one...it worked perfectly.

  • love this song, had it going through my head the last few days so i had to listen to it again

  • Happy Birthday Sean Watkins (2/18)!!!

  • i can play this on saxophone but it will never be as good as the original version

  • I <3 this songgg. (:

  • i go to this light house and beach every summer! its even prettier than the video makes it look

  • i love this song

  • Never heard them before! But this is just great! I hope we had some mountains here too. Can just imagine the feeling!

  • Favorite group ever. I AM IN LOVE WITH THEM!!!! : )

I love listening to them as I drive threw the mountains. Its just perfect!!!

  • i remeber coming home when i was young and turn on the tv channel GMT and kinda fall asleep and i swear this song came on and i would fall alseep, it was/is such a soothing song.

  • maybe they don't want to be classified... they don't care what they are, they just love doing it because it's their passion. they love sharing music with people... music that is unclassified is the best music of all

  • great song great group !!!

  • i'd call it talented... the vocal control is envious by far... i'd give most anything to be able to sing like that...

  • about the classification, I just heard this in my music class ("anglo-american folk music") and it was classified as "Newgrass". This doesn't mean that's what it is, but its one definition!

  • That's a really sad song. I have always liked it, but I read the lyrics and I just realized what it was about...

    wow

  • they sound irish :D

  • contemporary folk is how i would classify nickel creek

  • Does it matter what you call the music? The world doesn't compartmentalize so easily. It's great music...

  • agreed!

  • This is such a beautiful song.

  • Amen brother!

  • nickel creek is amazing.

  • we got to york beach main where that lighthouse is every year for a week

  • great song..

  • lol i luv that little guitar sounds nice

  • are you talking about the guitar....or the mandolin?? because if the mandolin...thats not a guitar haha

  • i love this song, it's soo meaningful, for me at least. it almost makes me cry everynow and then, maybe cause i lost someone i loved twice so it relates. =]

    anyway.

    Nickel Creek 4EVER!

  • this song is sad but it's a nice song^^

  • good song

  • I love this song... and that guy looks like the brother from Malcolm in the Middle!

  • I love nickel creek!

    i love this song too!

  • I love this song. you can actually feel the love they feel for each other. So beautiful

  • I love Chris' voice, it's so beautiful.

  • If this ain't Blue Grass, there is none. I'd bet ol' Bill Monroe would agree with me.

  • Nickel Creek is considered New Wave Blue Grass

  • wat a sad song... love it tho.

  • my mom, sister, and i can't get through this song with out crying. we went to a concert and we alll cried for the next two songs after this one. amazing song tho :D

  • I'm not even sure you can call this bluegrass I mean I am not a fan of bluegrass but I've always luved nickel creak even though punk rock is my style and those are total opposites!

  • You would be safe to say this is bluegrass...not sure why you think it wouldn't be.

  • You only say that because it's not all I-IV-V chords like the old-timey bluegrass you're probably thinking of. The style and instrumentation still suggest bluegrass, although they always described themselves as "progressive acoustic" to avoid being labeled "BLUEGRASS" for people like yourself who don't think you like bluegrass. =)

  • You only say that because it's not all I-IV-V chords. The style and instrumentation still suggest bluegrass, although they always described themselves as "progressive acoustic" to avoid being labeled "BLUEGRASS" for people like yourself who don't think you like bluegrass. =)

  • You wouldn't listen to "classic" country music and still call today's country music "country music." Same think here, in my opinion. They're still bluegrass, but more modernized

  • this song is really sad....it makes me all depressed ya and there is a first part cut out :( and the solo! i cant believe he forgot solo! omg!

  • Opps. I meant Sean on guitar. Lol.

  • Aren't they all like brother and sister?...

The video and song is beautifull!

  • Only two of them are brother and sister. It is Sarah [violin player] and Nick [guitar player]. Lol.

Yeah, it really is beautiful. [:

  • im not usually one to listen to anything that is bluegrass, but i enjoy this band so much.

  • nickel creek is not anything that is bluegrass...

  • If you think they're not bluegrass just because you don't usually like bluegrass and you like them, you need to get into a giant catapult and launch yourself into the sun.

  • Then what are they? Just wondering, I mean, with the guitar, mandolin, fiddle, double bass, etc.... Is it not possible that they could be classified as "modern bluegrass" (but yet bluegrass...)?

  • Perhaps? With the instruments I guess you could draw similarities, but they don't sound like any bluegrass I've ever heard. Sure, in a few songs you can hear the bluegrass influence, but they are still not anything that I'd think of as bluegrass.

  • Well, like I said, no one could call today's country music "country music" if they compared it to country music from back in the Waylon/Merle era. Same thing here, it's just a modern spin on an older genre.

  • i was raised listening to this song. one of the very first defined memories is laying in nap time in preschool listening to this song. I still cry every time i listen to it.

  • i agree that the singer is a bit too over dramatic. i love this song though.

  • Thanks for the words! Good fun singing along...

  • wow good music

  • There are a bunch of sections cut out of this version. :(

  • this song is soooooo sad

  • we heard this at school....

i didn't think i will like it but i did...

this girl in my school said helooks "gay"

  • I wish!! he's fucking hot

  • It has gotten so hard to watch this movie now.

Though it is still a beautiful song

  • I need this music. I am from czech republic and playing to mandolin. Nickel Creek is my inspiration. This is very beautiful music!!!!!!!!

  • Yes, the music is very beautiful. :) Good job on the mandolin! He's a great role-model! :)

  • this song is so depressing, very good, but depressing.

  • Great song, but yeah, the video is pretty gay.

  • your so right. putting beautiful music to beautiful scenery... that's just supid. What?

  • Haha. The scenery is nice; it's those long languid looks into the camera that are so cheesy and overdone that I think it actually detracts from the beauty of it, you know?

  • Since we're discussing grammatical errors 'your' should really be 'You're' since what you're trying to say is 'you are' not 'your' as in 'you own something. I suppose you knew that though didn't you? By the way, capital letters usually go at the start of sentences.

  • i love this song so much, the tale is so sad. i feel like crying.

  • I love this band and this song they rock!

  • this song kills me every single time.

  • cheesy video. but sara watkins is hot

  • This is one of my 3 favorite songs ever! The other two are Roger Whittaker's "The Last Farewell" and Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald". I just love the beautiful sounds this band makes! The lyrics are absolutely brilliant! This, to me, is an example of an absolutely perfect song! Thank you Nickel Creek! I love the video too. It's perfect too! Beautiful!

  • funny- I was trying to explain "the wreck of the Edmund F." to a much younger co-worker of mine & he recommended this song to me.I guess the nautical references weren't lost on everyone. Good post!

  • I get chills all down my back during the last chorus. Just a beautiful song. They seriously are one of the best bands ever. I hope they get back together soon. People say Chris is better with the Punch Brothers, but I just think Nickel Creek has something special that he doesn't quite have alone.

  • Can anyone clarify for me? Is the band just taking a break, or are they completely broken apart. I'm fearing the worst...

  • Very good indeed,Easy on the ear, loved it.

  • Simply Beautiful, one of my favorite Ballads of all time. :) love Nicklecreek

  • The Most BEAUTIFUL song in the world I love it.

  • Amazing story ballad...pure brilliance.

  • wonderful!

    good job!

  • ExpLoSiveFlyiNgMooS this song is incredible

  • this song is amazing, and depressing :(

  • shot in Maine!!! yeah!!

  • absolutely beautiful. This band have a low profile here in England as does "country" music in general- i have really got into it and want to learn the mandolin now!!

  • They aren't Country, they're Folk.

At least, they are to me.

  • well its all music in the end, some music is good, some is bad.....BUT NICKEL CREEK GO BEYOND THE GOOD

  • W00t.

  • i think there more bluegrass than folk

  • Exactly- you have to remember that 'folk' to me means English folk music which has a different sound. This would be perceived here as 'country' simply because it's American. It's fantastic, anyway!

  • Well, I consider it folk. Mine isn't the only mentality, though, so I've no right to tell you what's right and what isn't. ___

    Peace / | \ \/|\/

  • in the it dosen't matter what genre or what type of music you think it is, i'm sure nickel creek don't. just sit down and enjoy the world of music

  • I have never heard anything like these guys, they are truly talented., all of them.

  • awsome song

  • so beautiful ^__^

  • i am gay for Chris Thile

  • DUDE KEEP THINGS LIKE THAT TO YOURSELF

  • naw

  • mandolin. they all sing but this singers name is chris thile

  • lovely song about love and loss.can anyone tell me the name of the instrument played by the lead singer?

  • It's a mandolin..

  • This is a beautiful Song

  • this song is GREAT! this is the first time i have ever heard this song...or even heard of these guys for that matter

    Thank You Nickle Creek! ILYnow!

  • I first listened to this song in third grade. it made me sad even back then.

  • I MISS THEM! They had such beautiful music-- this one is verrrrry sad, however. :(
