Haha, everyday I watch this video, and it just reminds me of my baby M2 Pele. :) They are truly the most affectionate of the cockatoo species, no doubt. Extremely loud, but sweet. Mine would follow me around the house (if I set him on the floor) looking for me and playing peeakboo. I would have another one of these in an instant.
I used to have a beautiful male Salmon Crested Cockatoo, Pele. They are the most lovable of the cockatoos, to be sure. However, they are EXTREMELY loud. Mine never bit me, but if you don't constantly play with the bird, he will become prone to plucking.
I like your store . I just got my moluccan last mnth and i love him to death ! you have a great buissness keep on !!! even all these peoples are mad and dont even have large bird expierence . I will be ordering some more food soon :) M'2s For ever !
Please, remember to only give your larger birds (cockatoos, macaws, etc.) to people who are experienced! Most pet stores (like Petco) will say anything to people so that they buy their birds. Tell them how extremely loud they are, and that they get 2x louder and more aggressive when there hormones break in.
JMHO on small breeders. No doubt for the most part small breeders are great! I bought a baby grey from a small breeder and she told me so many things that had done for and with my new baby and all turned out not true at all! I have had her for 2 mths now and I am just getting to the point where I can touch her head. Everything that breeder told me about my baby was a lie!!!!! Dont mean to discredit anyone but my small breeder was a small person when she sold this baby to me!
Hey, do you go through every bird video and post this comment? I have seen you post this other videos of ours. At least give an argument or I will block you.
Only when it's deserved. With so many UNWANTED birds out there & being dumped by the dozens at rescues each & every day, why breed more? It's so horribly sad...
I felt kind of sad watching this, too. I think moloccuns are the least suited of all parrots, and cockatoos for that matter-for life as "pet". I think it should be made illegal now. Adopting is fine..creating a bird sanctuary is even better. I am not having a go at you-i think you take excellent care of your birds. I am in awe of these amazing wild creatures but i know how dangerous they are.
People kind of block that out a lot and blame the owners who relinquish them. Believe me, that is not the full story.I had to give up my cockatoo-not because i wasnt willing to give her all the love and affection and stimulation she needed, but because she mauled me on more than one occasion. I have never seen a happy adult mollucan and no amount of love and dedication can really make up for the fact that they should be in the wild, flying free, mating and rearing young.
I know many birds who do adapt to the human world and love being part of human families. I watched a video of one woman with her young Um too and i could tell that she was her baby substitute. What would happen to that bird if she gets pregnant. Its sad. p.s. I gave my (failed) adoption bird, Maggie, to a Bird Santuary where she is around lots of other toos and a really great team of avian experts. Best i could do.
Actually out of all pets birds are one of the most widley kept and not abandon. Now I am not gonna state that there isn't any out there that need homes; however, they are not in as much trouble as dogs and cats are. Since they are all kinds of laws prehibiting from importing/exporting birds breeding is the mostly verstile way to get one. I have atleast 7 shelters locally and the only bird I see there are Chickens. How about you dont have sex and make babies. TONS of kids out there needs home to.
Well there are many methods to simulating a bird nest but since cockatoo usually make nest hout of dead tree or logs the drawer simulates a safe and protected enviornment... although I do not agree witht he mesh grating on the bottom of the drawer.. so many things can happen... All in all this guys has some pretty good standards for his shop!
Many baby birds eat the bedding (and hence the droppings on the bedding), and then get sick and/or their crops become impacted with the bedding material.
To prevent tis dangerous situation, and to keep the birds separated from and above their excrement, we designed this wire system. Since instituting the wire system, we have ceased having birds with impacted crops, and have had less birds with bacterial infections.
Y'know, it's really sad when birds are bred and end up being abandoned due to improper care and training by humans. I'm crossing my fingers that your birds will do much better than many exotic birds who aren't properly socialized.
I also hope that many breeders don't sell to just anyone, but requires the owner to learn all the expectations of these large birds before caring for it. Best to you and all your feathered friends! :)
Actually, quite a few specialty bird shops like the Golden Cockatoo get to see their babies quite often for boarding and for grooming. I can't remember the name of the other bird store on YouTube that I've talked to, but they actually draw up a contract to make sure that the bird will be taken care of even before it leaves the store.
It's one thing to take care of the bird, that's part of the responsibility of exotic bird ownership. It's another where people just don't realize that these birds have a lot of wild left in them, and when the birds sexually mature, they have the potential to start viciously biting their owners..and therefore are abandoned, abused or neglected by the owner/caretaker. This is a sad fact.
Oh boy is it ever...my mom and I went to the World Parrot Refuge in Coombs BC a couple of weeks ago, and we both got bitten hard by an Umby 'too who just did not want us to leave it.
There's a great video of how vicious cockatoos can be by jlcribber and this is why I will never own a bird larger than a cockatiel.
Yeah, I've been bitten by a moluccan and some umbrellas...not fun...but that's part of being around them i guess. my husband has been bitten by OUR umbrella; very sad, as she USED to love him, but since i came into the picture she now wants to rip him apart. :( at least we have a couple love birds and a cockatiel --and 5 cats -- to keep him lovy-dovy. :)
same here - I have only one eye so have to be super careful even with glasses. I used to have a Senegal (who died 2 years ago) and want an IRN. Even with the little birds I always keep them below eye level - no shoulder sitting or they think they're the boss and get bitey.
my 6 yr old moluccan that was given to me at 5 yrs old had bit me few times drawing blood at times, but of course i neede to find out what is that he wants. first i needed him to get used to his new surounding, and getting used to a new owner(me) long story short, he's been mostly good to me. he has his moment and i need to respect that. so, so far so good. he,s out of the cage mon, thru friday 4:pm thru 10 pm weekend 10:am to 11:pm and he 's sleeps all night thank god!!

Would you suggest the dri-deck too?

Keeps them warm until they can stay warm on their own. When ready, they are placed in a proper cage and weaned out.
