  • Man ive got the lightening. Now i really want a goldtop like that

  • His discussion at 7:38 onward regarding tone and the conception of guitar tone is the best advice I've ever heard anyone give regarding emulating your hero's.

  • I respect Peter Frampton and all, but... it's like SRV playing 2nd guitar for Eric Clapton...

  • @rodolforibas

Audley's gotta pay the rent man. For every time he does a tour with the Crowes or Frampton he can afford to lay it down with no cover charge in the bars, and as he says play what he really digs.

  • audley rules!

  • He's gigging with Frampton now? Jeez, two guitar monsters there! He makes those Gibby's sound pretty twangy in this clip. He's got awesome chops. I luv the COL stuff even though they only released two albums their tunes were great. What a player and pretty well spoken too. Never would have guessed that he's a Malcolm Young fan. I figured Hendrix, Trower, S.R.V. with some Rev. Billy & Paul Kossoff sprinkled in would be his influences.

  • Massive tone. What a nice guy and a helluva player.

  • What a nice guy. What a great player.

  • Agree on the Malcolm Young thing, you nice video.

Thank Fil (SoloDallas) for me watching this

  • "uh yeah i think malcolm young is uh a pretty devastating guitarist." hell yeah audley.

  • the tone i´ve been looking for so many years! amazing!!!

is this a matchless lightning head? does anybody know what cabinet he uses here?

  • Damn - I want that tone. My HRDx can't sound like that. And that's exactly the kind of tone I've been looknig for.

  • Why Joe Bonamassa comes up when you search Audley is a real mystery!!

  • @mattygeetarross A real shame is what is.. Freed is 100 times classier

  • @triviani1234 AGREED!! Plus better tone without a triple decker pedalboard!!

  • Best tone I've heard on this site...possibly anywhere.

  • @funkyjones Man I agree, once a month I pay a visit to part 2 just to get some inspiration tone wise. I mean, I can't get that awesome Matchless crunch, but still..

  • @funkyjones Ya I can tell that amp sounds incredible, as Matchless always does. The mic's too close for my taste though. I like distant miking. Doesn't capture all that gross harshness.

  • Now you tell me...is that unforgivable?

  • 5:44 - 6:00....superb Audley, a gentleman and a wicked guitar player

  • too bad it's hard to find professional guitarists with that much soul in their playing these days...

  • does anyone know WHAT SPEAKERS are in that cab? I'm really curious about that

  • They sound like blues to me. I could definitely be wrong though.

  • Dude is ridiculous... check out the live Black Crowes album around 2002 when he toured with them... awesome.

  • i saw that tour. won tix off the radio-front row! with jimmy page yet!

i'd never heard of this guy before the shoe but he fucking owned that night.

  • I can't get enough of that tone... Audley rocks, it's like, you don't need anything else at all, it's all there, no need for those expensive boutique overdrive pedals. Anyway, I've tried a couple of 15 watters and they don't sound like that when cranked. I mean, if you crank them all the way, it gets muddy, if you don't, it doesn't sustain like that. I'm talking mostly about the Fender Blues Junior. Maybe it's the 2x12 adding more tone...

  • uh,,,you can't compare a Blues Jr to a Matchless.

there's a reason the matchless costs $2000 more LOL

    More voxy, less fendery.

    Great player for sure.

  • Yeah, that's right. Still, I think the Blues Jr. has a british voicing, it's not that fendery... but that's unfair anyways.

  • Hmm Not to my ear, maybe a chimey fender. BUt it is apples oranges, The Fender is a great amp for what it is.

  • Jimineez! listen to that sound! P-90's sopunding like what I might need .

  • Just a LP/SG, the booster and the amp...Marvelous!

  • this really tempted me to trade my plexi..

couldn't sleep for a few days after watching this..

  • Your plexi's just as great!

  • I wanna hear him play CARNIVAL in a GIBSON. Actually I just wanna hear him play CARNIVAL! My favorite Audley song!

  • I love Audley's playing. The guy doesn't shred, but he sure doesn't have to. I've never heard him play anything bad. His old Cry of Love discs are killer, as is his work with the Crowes and Page. The guy even toured with the Dixie Chicks. He's versatile. Seems like a pretty nice guy too.

  • @marcroy74 And the thing is, he CAN shred. Got some early recordings from his days in 'The Point' pre-Cry of Love and he's got some 80's shred happening in places. i think he's just found what is tasteful and what is not. LOL!

  • Guitar looks similar to the model Marc Ford used to play with the Crowes, especially on the live stuff around 92/93...

  • I've got to say. . .This guy takes tone to a whole new level!!!!

  • what kind of matchless amp is that? I would love to know, it sounds great.

  • 15 Watts is probably the Lightning

  • awesome. what pedals is he using?????

  • Just a booster...all his drive is from the amp

  • Would it be too much to ask for a "Cry of Love" reunion?

  • Love that SG :)

  • Ya know...Audley kinda lost me there, but I know EXACTLY what he means....man, what a great guitar sound and excellent musician..could we please see a Cry of Love reunion???

  • He´s got my favorite guitars.

  • Nice!

  • One of the best of this Generation.

  • I hear some angus young type stuff goin on. lol

    very good guitarest.

  • he is engaging though, interesting to listen to. Its a lecture but not, y'know. And those tones are mint....

  • fantastic experience ... just watching/listening to this.

  • Best guitar player of all the time!

  • Audley's a bad-ass, but greatest guitar player of all-time? You need to listen to some other players.

  • Everyone is entitled to his or her opinions.I respect that. Audley might not be the most technically gifted player, but the notes he plays...man..I LOVE it.He is in my top 5 all rounders. Can't forget that opinions are like armpits..everyone has a couple and they usually stink

  • Thanks Gibson! Audley fans: Get the rare Cry of Love album: "Diamonds and Debris" the whole album is great especially the song: "Revelation" wow!

  • This is the most compelling advert for Matchless amps of all time. Amazing tone. Wish I could just buy a Lightning and an SG and sound as good as Audley....

  • He just took "tone" to a whole new level.

  • I have a cherry one but ya totally agree a nice white and yellow would be sweet.

  • i love that sg!

  • and he likes malcom young he is in my books now.

  • Go Audley. U r a god.
