  • Ha ha the "happy place"

  • Outstanding I like the professional attitude and advice this instructor is offering. I should be working with him. I am a US Soldier & Former Police Officer. And this guy really knows his shit. There Are Two Types of people in this world, " THE TRAINED & THE UN-TRAINED " Keep up the good work Sir, I love your videos and respect your great knowledge of firearms.. US Soldier Out!!! FORT HOOD TX A.K.A ( LONEWOLF )

  • Thanks

    good to learn

  • Excellent & true advice. Unfortunately, as Will Rogers once said, "Common sense ain't common.”

  • This man is awesome.

  • Good tips.

  • I really learn a lot from your videos. Keep up the great work.

  • Does this guy have the greatest job in the world or what

  • @The1asterisk with you finger on the trigger it shows the target you are willing shoot. With you finger off the target will have some time to make a move while you put your finger on the trigger

  • @Taxemicshadow Finger moves into trigger housing if threat is real! Common sense takes over then. Better have good common sense and judgement during this second to last phase.... The last phase is pulling the trigger.

  • love the 80's theme!

  • Lmao "two disk set"

  • Too bad the cop in the school that shot his foot didn't get this training :)

  • This is how to handle your sidearm. Everybody who owns a gun should get training of this quality.

  • One thing i love from the professionals you will learned a lot from them...Love this video..Thanks a lot.

  • Sorry, that's Ed Harris :)

  • "The Happy Place"

  • Always good to see a real pro doing one of these videos. Too many bozos on YT.

  • what holster is it?

    Blade Tech? Uncle Mike's ?

  • what glock is he using?

  • @Mrgoodnyt a glock 17 with some sort of olive drab finish on the slide

  • "So get your finger off the trigger, get the muzzle away from you, and then it'll be in a happy place." I might go to his school just to hear him talk. He does seem to know his shit though.

  • Nice. "...now it's in a happy place". He does have a sense of humor.

  • retention position?

  • i love that slide for glock

  • What holster is Clint using for the pistol and flashlight?

  • I disagree with finger on the trigger while on target. Unless you are shooting or intend to shoot at the moment the finger should be off. If you get startled while on target you could clinch and end up shooting your target before you mean to.

  • @The1asterisk yeah he said that was the wrong thing to do

  • @TheAlexagius

I thought he was saying that putting the finger on the trigger does not mean that you are shooting. He is still figuring out the threat at that point, which is against the training I have. Finger on the trigger only when shooting to avoid a variety of unintended outcomes.

  • @The1asterisk But why point the gun to the target unles you are going to shoot ?

  • wouldn't another proper place be up a communists ass?

  • Guy looks like a moron, though he knows what he's talking about.

  • this song is so intense.

  • happy place!! xD

  • My gun is always in a happy place :D

    Its a happy SIG.

  • A pistol is like a seatbelt,

If you dont have it on when you need it, then it's already too late!! "ME"

  • so i shouldnt have it down the front of my pants :P

  • @daybydaysurvival I'd say only if your gonna be using it as Tactical Birthcontrol as I've always called it.

  • Good advice, i wish more people who post on youtube practiced gun safety.

PS which position do you clean the gun in?

  • @aaronsbraga i don't think you're supposed to have it loaded while your cleaning it

  • Clint YOU ROCK!!!

  • I would love to be able to come out there from FL for a visit. Clint your a firearms scholar.

  • What the name to dis guitar tune ?

  • What if your pistol has a manual safety? That complicates things a bit.

  • @happy543210 No, it doesnt Happy. If your gun comes out of the holster, you automatically toggle the safety off as you bring it to a Ready position. As you come out of Ready, you toggle the safety back on. If it doesnt feel natural, Practice Practice Practice! My carry gun has a manual safety, and after a few dozen draws from your holster, flipping the safety off and on is as natural as pointing the firearm.

  • @happy543210 "Iss Gunn!! Iss NEVah safe!!!" (Famous [anonymous] Russian Instructor)

Dude, if you're weapon has a so-called "safety", get a pair of pliars and rip it off, or just buy a GLOCK. ("GLOCK" is in caps not for emphasis, but because that's how Gaston wanted it done. He d'man.)

  • @indytoe GLOCK!!!!

  • what glock is his? mdel 22? and where can i find his slide?

  • @MrWaddlesgee3 Glocks are a fine firearm to shoot it wil kill you lol. Yet the reason why law enforcement use it is because they dont have to worry about taking the safety off when they pull it from their holster. It can misfire it your not careful, they forget to tell you that. lol. It only takes one time to fuck up. Look on Utube under Glock miss fires and you will see what I'm talking about.

  • Thank you for posting this. Safety is so important.

  • you can tell he wanted to swear

  • Excellent video and series. This one emphasizes the KISS principle. I appreciate this 'bottom-line' instruction, especially when safety is THE most important issue. While there are a wide variety of types and styles of firearms and many techniques proffered by experts (and not-so-experts), this rule-of-thumb approach is very good and easy to practice and remember. I don't think anyone can argue that this will not improve safety for all concerned.

  • great quotes :-)

  • "and thin it will me in a happy place" I love this guy.

  • Get your stupid finger off the trigger!!!

  • I can't help but feel like I just watched the Bill Nye on gun safety.

  • I dont agree that the trigger finger should be on the trigger until the moment youre about to fire. I dont agree with that at all.

  • @928sniper so if someone is inside your house with a knife you wouldnt put your finger on the trigger to get him to stop. glad i dont live with you.

  • @928sniper Actually, Clint said your keep finger off of the trigger until you're ready to fire.

  • @928sniper even if you dont agree with that is one of the four basic safety rules and can save you from firing at some one that you could regret cous you can get a little jumpy when on a given situation

  • i learn more about handgun

  • he sounds like dustin hoffman in rainman a little

  • Excellent advice from this video.

You might say he takes this stuff seriously. But in reality, you can't take gun safety too seriously.

With that said, I'm rather certain that anyone with a military or law enforcement background will agree that his demeanor in this video is actually pretty mild.

  • Hahahaha..."my stupid finger on the trigger"!!

    I like this dude.

  • kick ass guitar intro

  • right.. guns are no toys, and he proved it

  • as a u.s. army soldier ive seen to many muzzels pointed in the wrong damn direction!! Clint is on point with this video. Know pun intended.

  • he sounds angry

  • Guns are no joke and sometimes some people take them too lightly.

    You ever been in bootcamp?

Those who have know firmness helps get the point across.

Clint is really a nice guy.

  • Holy crap he does take home defense seriously

  • @XxFuNkYPaNdAxX He sure does take firearms seriously and with good reason.

  • @neohubris hes only angry when his gun isnt in its happy place

  • @neohubris Might be one of those "For crying out loud LAST time!" Deals

Think cranky Navy doctor, "So, you did it AGAIN."

  • @neohubris Clint is not angry, he is only passionate and knowledgeable about what he talks about. When he speaks you should listen. This man DOES NOT waste a single word ! Every thing he has to say IS valuable !

  • Have to like Clint

  • Guns are pointed up in movies only. Nowhere in proper firearms training do they teach muzzle up. It might look good on Miami Vice, but it's not the proper stance in the real world. Muzzle up, just like double-wielding, belong in movies only.

  • man i saw this pick of this euro cop busting through this door all his buds had rifles he had two 9mm its the funniest picture search dual weild or akimbo and it shuld come up fuckin funny shit

  • only once have i seen muzzle up with firearms, it was indoors with long barreld weapons (M16) with 20-30 of them in line to pick em up from an instructor and was on their way out to range , other than that yep totally agree :P . THats the only senerio(sp) it should be done as the safest direction would be where no one is at, and should a bullet be fired and exit the building, it would have no ballistic trajectory :P and i need a spell check...

  • @enanosiniestro

Wrong. Quite a few militaries teach muzzle up.

  • 1) Finger off the trigger until ready to fire

    2) All guns are ALWAYS LOADED in your mind

    3) NEVER point the gun at yourself or anyone else, or anything else you don't intend to shoot

    4) Muzzle up in the air if not ready to fire Almost impossible to have an accident where someone or something is damaged if you follow these simple rules. Very hard to learn quickly, like anything else, it takes time. Like Forrest G. that's all I have to say about that! Glen

  • It'll be in a happy place haha. reminds me of happy gilmore. Good techniques though.

  • i love this guy.

when i turn 18 im going to thunder ranchh

    that place is amazingg.

  • good luck concealing that

  • Mr. Smith knows his stuff. Learned a lot watching his videos. The malfunction clearance videos are exceptional.

Anyone have any recomendations on a really good gun belt like the one Smith is wearing?

    thank you in advance

    Mark

    Cadis,PA

  • it looks like its just a stought leather belt. me and my dad carry and we use the wilderness tactical belts.

  • "GREAT" BASIC TRAINING!!!

  • I have the stinkin thing pointed at my foot and leg.....lol

and now its in a happy place...lol

  • As much as airsoft and Co2 guns are used improperly I think they are valuable tools to learn the good basics of a firearm. You can shoot targets and learn the 3 steps this guy had just mentioned with less risk of injury if improperly used.

  • lol yea, your right. Before I handled real firearms, I trained with airsoft and co2, and it worked out well.

  • @GutsLCF well with PROPER training training there is no improper use.

  • @GutsLCF well with PROPER training there is no improper use.

  • @GutsLCF Also you can use them in your home or backyard instead having to spend time on a range.

  • @Auir9 I usually go deep in the woods and make sure I'm facing the bottom of a hill which there's even less risk to hit someone that might be traveling. As long as your safe and whether it's a real or a Co2 weapon.

  • what the hell now its in a happy place

  • And I thought clint was an xd fan....pfff

  • What about the retention position?

  • Yeah, I dont like the finger on trigger when on target method either. If its a threat that could harm me my finger is gonna be on the trigger squeezing it. If the target is not going to kill me, Im not gonna risk having my finger on the trigger.

  • "Then it will be in a happy place"... LOVE IT

  • the happy place: when your gun is handled properly, and it's like this "^_^" o.O LOL XD

  • I also like the lines "I keep the pistol between me and what I dont like" and "I got my stupid finger is on the trigger"

  • keep it between you and what you don't like....like my friends lolol thats how he got shot hahahaha

  • I'm in a happy place.

  • "Keep the pistol between me and what I don't like" Awesome I love that line.

  • What is the make of that Flashlight holder on Clints Belt?.

  • this was funny

" I have the gun between me and what I dont like"

"ill fire if it doesnt comply with my request"

  • lol this guy is cool

  • It's all about The Happy Place.

  • Lol great stuff

  • love his facility!! just how i was trained!

  • Happy place .. love it ...

  • great stuff

  • "And then you'll be in a happy place..."

Needs to be on a shirt with the TR logo.

  • sounds like Happy Gilmore. "think of a happy place" lol

  • three places for a gun, you pocket, your back pocket and loaded off safety in your waistband... ha ha ha! just kiddin!

  • and then i will be in a happy place :)

    nice dude keep on rocking!

  • You are welcome, be safe.

  • I thought that you should only have your finger on the trigger if you are going to fire. He said you can have it on the trigger even if you're not going to fire for sure, but might. Can anyone expand on this? What is right/wrong to do?

  • There is no right or wrong, just a saffer way to do it and it's to keep your fingers away from the trigger until you are ready to shoot with sights on target.

If you do something else you will shoot yourself in the foot or shoot someone else before you know it.Accidents happen and the only way to prevent them are the 4rules:

    1) Treat any gun as loaded

    2) Dont point at anything you dont wish to destroy

    3) Fingers away from trigger until ready to shoot

    4) Know what's behind the target.

  • I see, thanks for the input.

  • if you're READY to fire. as long as you have the self control to not fire at the slightest movement, i would reccoment having your finger on the tigger if you have the target in your sights, so that if he becomes a threat you can fire quickly and effectively. somebody correct me if that's not what police/military/defense courses teach.

  • Finger off the trigger for police.

Don't think in a tense situation that your finger won't betray you and clench a little bit if a surprise happens.

You could also trip and instinctively squeeze. If your finger is on the trigger then you'll fire.

Leave it on the slide until you want to fire. You don't loose time doing it that way with practice.

  • I agree, you can make the movement into the trigger guard and the trigger squeeze one smooth movement.

It drives me nuts when I see that shit in movies and TV

And then these kids who play airsoft and shit and then have no idea how to safely handle a weapon and end up killing people because they were dicking around like they do in airsoft and "thought the gun was unloaded" never mind they were breaking every single NRA safety rule, but oh it still wasn't their fault

pff that shit makes me sick

  • thats shit makes me SICK TO MY ASS as well

but how can u kill someone with an airsoft gun

the most u can do is gouge out an eye

  • oh shit...i guess i worded that weird....i meant that when they pick up a real weapon and have shot airsoft b4.(this mostly applies to kids, but also to some adults who act like kids), they have no idea how to safely handle a weapon cause they're so used to dicking around while playing airsoft.....that whole game make weapons appear more like toys and less like deadly instruments (when in the hands of an unsafe shooter)...then kids treat weapons like they do airsoft guns...like toys

  • well airsoft can GET u killed

    but airsoft get kill anyone

  • I think that airsoft guns are great for force on force training. You really cant blame an airsoft gun for stupid.... I mean uneducated people, an airsoft gun should be treated just like a regular gun until you are actually in the game/training scenario.

  • Yeah, true

  • Some kid got shot while I was at the range cause I guess he just turned 18 and decided to get a gun and was treating it like a toy when it was "unloaded" and ended up getting his buddy shot in the shoulder...lucky for his buddy, this kid was a bad shot and only got caught in the shoulder. I found out later that the kid was into paintball and airsoft. A very eye opening experience in the end though

  • nope, everybody trained in military and police are taught to index the finger, especially if there's a sudden movement and you made a mistake. You only put it on the trigger when you need to pull it.

  • Yeah I agree, finger off the trigger and just train to get to the trigger smoothly if you need it. Finger on the trig is asking for trouble. Anybody see that cop video where they have the perp detained and a lady cop is still pointing her pistol at the perp w/ finger on the trig? She gets startled, squeezes, and puts a round right next to his head. Bad news.

  • I seem to remember an adult in that video stabilizing the firearm and fully supervising. Did you forget that part? No, u didn't forget. You're just talking mindless gun hating bullshit. What else is new.

  • What is the cost of the DVD?

  • if it isn't in any of these 3 places, then it's in the wrong place.

  • right and that goes for a few others things too.... not just guns :)

  • LOL ... happy place.

There is no other place such as in the safe?

Does that mean he is sleeping with the gun on him in the holster? :p

  • no it means that he sleeps with a gun in his hand! :-D

  • LOL it's what I thought!

  • so many "experts" on you tube. glad I found this one. Thank you for sharing you knowledge to us so that we can share with family and friends at the range. I hope your sales go through the roof...my order is placed. thanks again

  • Now heres a vid where the person giving the advice actually knows what he is talking about. Thanks Clint.

  • BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!, "this is my happy place, helps me forget about my damn stoopid finger"

  • What holster is he using?

  • i think its a fobus holster

  • might be a CompTac

  • Er, yes, Very good stuff.

  • and then it will be in a happy place :)

    good advice

  • Gun's happy place

  • I immediately subscribed after hearing "happy place." :D. I like the combat tips a lot. You don't stutter, you don't ramble, you're professional, and you get the word out. Very nice.

  • I like the happy place

  • It would seem that's the obvious thing to do with a handgun but some people can be extremely stupid. If everyone was as responsible and gun-smart as Clint, the world would be a better place for sure.

  • followed this guy since the 90s, class act and knows his stuff. pro and entertaining at times. awesome.

  • I slightly disagree with the 3rd position. I'd say keep your finger off the trigger and on target. If you want to kill the threat, then put your finger on the trigger. Jumpy nerves could result in an accidental discharge.

I wish everyone at shooting ranges started to act like Mr. Smith.

  • Excellent. Well taught.

  • So this is where Super Dave Osbourne is hiding. Clint rocks. From now on, I'm calling him Super Clint.

  • "and then it will be in a happy place" hahah..awesome videos. I'm gonna subscribe!

  • he ain't good he's awesome/the best

  • Yeah, Clint is good.

  • Clint Smith rules !!!!!!!
