  • dont know why you guys are hating if there were old hmong people thaf could speak fluent english im sure they would have gladly had them as actors

  • They should have used Hmong actors. and made it a little more realistic if it happened in my family we would have to translate to kuv niam about what was happening. Bothers me hearing them say "mung" instead of Hmong.

  • I know the Shaman actor in real life, and he's not a shaman LOL

  • What a crock of shit...LOL. The father looks so "Triad" like smoking that cigar and wearing that 3000 dollar suit. No hmong would spend that amount of money for shit like that, they be more worry about how to fuck'n save their daughter's life. That fool didn't even having the slightest bit of worry for his daughter. Shaman 500 miles away...you kidding me...where the fuck do you live? Helicopter? shaman at hospital? Yeah right, it don't work that way.

  • Shes a good actress but shes chinese...

  • wtf is this pce of shit

  • Hmong people aren't this calm at a hospital, trust me!

  • "how long does it take to received a lost soul?" Its is about 2-4 hours + i think...depends...if the shaman go into the spirit world and the situation. Dont the shaman need to do the healing ritual in front of the ritual/ancestor shine if it really serious?? It is kinda funny because when they say it in english "missing her soul" it sound so weird and funny, but in hmong it sound sooo normal for me...I think in english they should of said "lost soul"...

  • y dont they use real hmong people.... maybe I should go into acting.....so tat i can play a part like this...

  • Awesome. Whether you disagree with the concept or ideas of this film. It has put our visibility on the map. Showing this to your peers and talking about it is a revolutionary act. You are explanding our horizons and letting the world in about us (whether accurate or innacurate). We should be empowered to change the innacuracies, not criticize and run from them. Continue to speak and stay ambitious in fields that will exploit us. Thanks. - Elvis Thao (actor from Gran Torino)

  • lmao never seen a shaman in a hospital doing all those spiritual things in there

  • Just enjoy the clip. No need to be hating. And you did a good job with the video!

  • the actors r chinese ahahaha

  • @poonbabyyy Chue is .....chu and shu i don't know but i sure the doctor said MR. CHUE

  • watching this makes me feel weird because when any other races watch this they might at us wrong :(

  • umm... how come they sent a GUY shaman? ... that's quite odd... almost all shamans are women. >< .. They also need a shaman on an episode of Ghost Whiperer. ^^

  • @johnlo559 hmong shaman are usually male ....

  • @meejka That is very inaccurate.

  • @meejka doesn't that really depends only if the spirit choose you to be a shaman...so it is 50/50 on females or males....I know a few females and males that are shamans...

  • Love our Mong Shaman very much. May GOD Bless them with the power huller. The true Angel of GOD Shaman.

  • We came to this country in 1989. In 1992, my MOM and AUNTE, were told by the same DOCTORS, in the MAYO CLINIC, that they had some kind of cancer. If they did not get the surgery, they will die. My MOM agreed to the SERGURY and my AUNTE refused. Guess who died and who lived, even TODAY?

  • This is the stupidest portrayal of Hmong people I have ever seen. When the white doctor says "hmong" better than the actress....that's just fawking stupid! not to mention the whole "the shaman is never late," way to slip in the most stereotypical Asian line ever!!!!!

  • lol ... they did a shaman party w.o a sacrificed animal xD ... lol .. i wuld kno ... im 100% hmong... xD

  • Interesting find, I am surprised. I didn't notice the difference between the actors portraying the hmong until i saw the shaman from the clip.

Short history from what i had done for one of my classes in highschool; Hmong's ancestry could be tracked all the way from here in the us to, thailand, cambodia, laos, china, mongolia, and probably other countries. Hmong people imo were like nomads, even when we found land, it was lost to the emperor, and our records burned.

  • Never mind I read the description... sorry... it was from Season 5, episode 5. Thanks!

  • this was a really interesting episode...i really enjoyed watching these actors portray hmong ppl as well...it would have been even more cooler if they spoke hmong, of course the actors weren't hmong, but just my thought!

  • 4:15 "you're shamans late." Moob time LOL

  • jbsholly.

she pronounced it mung NOT Hmong. Of course I KNOW the H is silent. Watch the video again.

  • @mygawd

the problem is that she said mung. It's not mung, it's mong. The doc said it even better.

  • I don't understand why anyone would be mean spirited to anyone. We are all human beings that laugh, cry, and bleed. It doesn't matter what your differences are. We all need to respect different. That is what build America in case any of you forgot your history. Not only that, but The united States of America is a considerably young country and many countries are deeply seeded with the past and many have had a lot of suffering. This doesn't take away from our own. it adds to similarity

  • how can I download this to a powerpoint presentation?

  • Stupid how she doesn't even say it right..

It's Hmong and she said mung

  • @mygawd the H is a silent letter isn't it?

  • @poonbabyyy Chue is a hmong last name.

  • @miiwaah yea that's true. Chue is a hmong last name. Chu or Chue, doesnt matter which one realli...

  • @voiceofexpression there is no such thing as Chu or Chue in Hmong last name....who ever created this last name is a dumb ass...they don't know anything about our Hmong people....if they really wanted to put Hmong people in there they should find real last names.....

  • @mouam7786 there r over 40 last names for the hmong ppl. even ask ur parents if Chue is a hmong last name. I even have two aunties that is a Chue and a Fang. and I've been to China to visit our hmong ppl there. we even carry some same last names like the chinese ppl such as Wu, Teng, Shu, Zhang, Bao, Chi, etc...and if u don't trust me, even search for a hmong leader name Chi You. Hmong ppl in usa dont realli know anything about their real history.

  • Make love not hate, loser!

  • @westenddd Like I said go and educate yourself. Go watch some more youtube videos. Yeah so what if we supposely have no country, yet us Hmong people still exist you idot. So here is the 411 on us "Hmong" people. We fought in the secret war with the U.S. against Vietnam and before that our people were slaughter by the Chinese many centuries ago so they can take our land. Who gives a fuck about YOU! I think you don't have any friends to be honest. Hmong people are spread out world wide.

  • those 32 people are domasses

  • it's chue

    im chuelol

  • it's chue

    im chue

  • @westenddd fucken racist loser people like you deserve the worst to come

  • @trdmr2t

    lol okay.

  • They make us Hmong people look bad

  • LOL, gosh hmong ppls aint this fugly too lol

  • shes a hott ass hmong girl damn wea she from?

  • @westenddd Who gives a FUCK about you & your narrow minded comments. Quit thinking about yourself. moron! Go educate yourself!!!

  • @westenddd Fucc you know one cares about u.

  • @lilsx23

    Why you mad? ;)

  • and for those who are just plain hating Hmong ppl when you know nothing about them/us are just plain stupid. And yes, when the other guy holding on to the shaman guy, thats how it is in real life as well. he holds him so that when the shaman guy jumps up and down chanting, he wont fall down.

  • wow, all these comments. how stupid. For as i am a shaman believer..from what the show shows, it is true. When a hmong is sick or about to go into a major surgery we do too do the spirits calling. to help guide our "lost" soul back..and to also protect us and help us recover from the surgery. honestly, everyone have their own opinion but if you are really Hmong and believe in shamanism then why even argue with ppl who doesnt know or understand. its what you believe that counts.

  • @MissRose420 THIS IS TRUE! When I went to surgery, my parents did that spirt shaman calling. (:

  • If you want some real Hmong culture clash, read The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. Seriously, this barely scratches the surface of Hmong beliefs.

  • @westenddd fortunatley u do cuzz u watchin this shit

  • @dededoi

I came across this from a Madtv related video actually. Learn to spell.

  • it's not "silly," it is in the Hmong culture that when one is sick, the soul is believed to "lost."

  • We all have to start some where, now it's our turn to show the rest of the world from the Hmong perspective, first hand....do it!

  • Fck ya'll other haters!

  • FOR ALL GOD'S, ALL ANCESTOR, ALL WHATEVER ANYONE BELIEVES IN'S SAKE!! CHILL! I honestly don't think it's any individual's place to talk about any other people's belief. You over there, if u believe in god then good for u.. You over here, if u believe in shamanism then good for u.. BIG DEAL!! worry about yourself and let others worry about their selves. It don't matter what you believe in. But as for the video! I think some of ya should just be proud that HMONG are being acknowledged. :)

  • i'm glad that hollywood has finally learnt of the HMONG culture, or at least acknowledge it. took them long enough to realize the different cultures out there such as the hmong culture.

  • Dude, this is awesome!

I'm glad that they show this to help spread the love of how we work.

  • Her dad is from Lost...

  • This is so wrong!!! This is not how shamanism is practice. No hmong guy is going to smoke a big cigars in a 3000 suit. it is a bit much. Don't Mock the hmong people.

  • @vang0515 what does it matter. It on TV. Is not the real show. There are some facts and there are not. People will know who we are.

  • Yeah, Dr. Edgar Hallowax/ Pierre Chang is definitely not Hmong.

  • LOL soo funny..This is soo NOT HMONG!!! Some Hmong people believes in Shamanism just like others believes in Christianity, Buddah etc.. We have our beliefs and rituals. We might not agrees on beliefs... but I respect you and whatever you choose to believe in.. only if you were in my shoes and I was in yours we might be able to understand each other..

  • Do people even know what they believing in? People say shamanisn? Or buddah ect. Who is this God? People know there's a God but they never try to learn about that God if it real or not or if there more to God. When you say I respect in what you believe in but you got to respect what i Believe in. You and those who have that way of thinking is holding the truth in stupitity.

  • @Aphablueforce Maybe there is no God after all.. or maybe there's many Gods! you and I will never know!

  • There is one true God, and one righteous God. That is Adonai, who send Christ. Did you realize not just shaman, budda, other religion. Everyone is drawn to Christ and saved. You and I will never know, that opinion are for the idiot. There is only one God and he send His only begot son Jesus to saved the whole world. If you haven't got there to the point where you know who God is and you know who the Devil is. Then you are in no place to state an opinion. Those who know God loved know Him.

  • @Aphablueforce how would u know though, because no one knows for shit, just opinions no facts

  • @dededoi

No one know? Yet you fully know God exist. Everyone does. We all know Satan exist. The world is wicked. No one can denied that.

  • its interesting how hmong people are used to represent arcane cultures in western medicine. soul mustve been waaaaaaay lost to need a shaman 500 miles away cuz my usual shaman is my grandma who lives 60 miles away. also it doesnt make sense all together. this super rich guy mustve been educated, so i dont see why he was so insistent on taking her home. hmong people are practical folk, they dont practice their traditions for the sake of tradition. they do so becuz they think it's real...

  • I am Hmong, and I am outraged! This is not how they portray how we do our shamanism... well, it's just a little over too exaggerated. Lol

  • Kinda of sad how they didn't use real Hmong people to plat the part. But i guess i don't blame, since not that many Hmong people are into Acting and such. But it is a same that they didn't portray the Hmong people in the right way.

  • This is not an accurate depiction of the Hmong

  • Some of you need to stop fucking whining and realize there are no Hmong actors in Hollywood. Only one and she's on the Disney channel. They can't just randomly hire inexperienced actors but then you guys would be bitching about that too

  • omg...just be happy that hollywood is realizing

HMONG people..and i guess you can say that

    gran torino is there research...hehe

    E]--TEEHEE!

  • Next time they should use real HMONG.

I think it would've been nice if it were hmong.

I'm hmong and been through acting and modeling.

    This isn't right.

  • Should use real HMONG people for the part, so fake. I've like to meet that HMONG dude speaking fluent English and sucking on a fat blunt, he doesn't looked like a traditional believer. And what kind of a shaman is that, fake ass shirt and since when did hospital allow such activity being perform in it. It's funny how when the shaman started jiggle belling and a slow romantic song comes on and you see a dude holding the shaman's waist and the shaman's bouncing up and down and up and down.

  • this is so fake hmong. they should use a real hmong family to act this part. American version of hmong people is off the chart. they need to redo their researches

  • People, December 21st, 2012 is the day God comes to raised the deads and judges the world for its sins, for our sins commited against God, Those who don't have the name of the father and the son marked on their foreheads will be destroyed, only those who have will remained to lived on earth. Please help me to spread this message to others and tell them to go to church now , if you lived in laos and no church, tsis txhob ua neeb ua yaig lawm, es txhos chaug thov Vaj tswv Yawm saub , txhua hnub

  • @thelostsheep2012 this is not the place for such comments

  • @thelostsheep2012 wtf, y do people always believe tat the end of the world in during 2012. god grow up, tats just superstition and the only evidence is a stupid mayan calender tat ends in 2012 and some stupid wannabe smartass said so but so wat. american calenders tat u get every year always end after next year but nobody gives a shit. its not like even the jew's calender or other calender out there ended at 2012 so stfu and quit whinin about 2012.

  • Sorry to say but it's silly. The whole film process.

  • omg umm no

  • Some people may see this as some supernatural or witchcraft thing, but I see it as a gift that was given to the hmong people. Thos who posses the shaman ablitly are those that we hmong people see as the important person, he/she who is able to perform these spirituals are incredible, I acknowledge and am grateful that we have such traditions still kept alive. My father is a shaman and I have seen him do pretty incredible things.

  • Although it may not be true that we all need to have a shaman come do a spiritual ceremony before undergoing surgery because one of our soul is lost, it was pretty miraculous that Hmong can be feature in such shows. The real reason to do shaman ceremonies before undergoing surgery is to just call in the souls, spirits, our ancestors, mothers, fathers, grandparents, and furthermore to watch over the person undergoing surgery, watch over so that he/she will not face any troubles or difficulties.

  • I hope that Hmong people are able to appreciate our traditions and beliefs.

  • that was my friends dad i think peter vang

  • i never saw this one...

  • Hollywood have done excellent works on the atcing parts. However, the scripts were far off from realism. Yeah, just pretending - not acting. There is not resemblings. Hollywood just trying to absorb Hmong culture. What I want to see is some movies such as Chai Soua Vang of northern Wisconsin (Sawyer County), or GVP trials version in Sacramento, CA (plots of overtaking Laos, not caught by FBI but the war things already happened and going on mainland Laos.)

  • It shows America our beliefs and culture.. This is just acting but in real life he has to perform the chant at her house. He can't perform a ceremony in the hospital room beside her it's against hospital laws. Don't insult us Hmong, Hmong shamanism has been practice over one thousand years old..Hmong shaman are chosen by a god name Sheyee. Shamans heal sickness, see entity's speak with the dead. They have naked eyes that sees ghost...

  • actors/actresses aren't hmong but i don't care cuz it's a good thing they & the show are trying to portray hmong ppl and some of its beliefs...though u can't really jingle bell in a hospital cuz there ain't no xwm kab..& I really like the shaman..look like one shaman us ordinary hmong ppl can't afford to hire for rituals..lol

  • @TheBiggiexiong It's pretty stupid if they're not showing it right. And WTH do you mean show it? I show it every weekend just by going to that shaman stuff.

  • @TheBiggiexiong It's pretty stupid if they're not showing it right. And WTH do you mean show it? I show it every weekend just by going to that shaman stuff.

  • when i got surgery i never needed a shaman to look for my soul... sometimes they jus make the fakest shit bout hmong ppl... jus like gran torino... wtf??

  • the moment it happens...<---??? wat?

  • these actors dont even look hmong at all... hahahaa... shit is funny!!!... y of all the races they had to pick mines for???????

  • I think the song at the end ruins everything. I would like to hear the shaman's bells gingle.

  • man i wish all of em was hmong...but it doesnt seem right to be actin like hes really doin the ritual when he isnt?

  • rich hmong people xD

  • Anyone know the song towards the end??

  • @311fob

Don't Forget Me - Way Out West

    (a very beautiful song!)

  • tight ahha but pretty awckward to ua neeb/ hu plig in a hospital room with see through windows..... usually we Hmong people do it or we don't and even if we do do it, it has to been in a large room that can't really be heard from the out side because it is loud.....nice though.... way to show the cultures and traditions....

  • its funny how the dad does not give you the "hmong" appearance at all... but a hmong shaman... we're getting out there...

  • the only hmong in here is the shaman.....

  • we all know most of the asian actor and actress are not hmong

  • bet they got the idea of getting hmong people from grand trino XD lmao jk

  • @nhiavang16

actually, this episode came out a few years before gran torino did. :)

  • Dude this is sweet. She's Hmong. Ohhh Dang. :) Hmong Pride. hehe. ^_^

  • @DannyThoj lols, only the shaman is hmong......

  • @TFV52 haha. lol. Atleast there's one Hmong person in there then it's fine.

  • People think all that stuff is crap. Which it kinda is, just like Gran Torino. But unless you are hmong you wouldn't understand all that. These show's make us look dumb and ignorant to be honest. Hmong kids that grew up learning about shamanism didn't learn to believe in God, we learned to believe in ghosts and spirts. I find this very offensive. Not because they use chinese people or whatever but if your going to use the hmong peoples cultures and traditions you can atleast do it right.

  • You kids are so stupid. As the owner of this stated, its a bunch of video clips she put together. Learn how to read ignorant Hmong kids.

  • Do they speak hmong in there?

  • LOL, wow. That lady who needs surgury said "have you even heard of the hmong people"? and i bet you anything she didn't even know there were hmong people until she got this acting job. this sucks! White people try to make their crappy shows more intersting with "ethnic" storylines but they always halfass everything.

  • TOO ALL THESE PEEPS WHO ARE COMMENTING SO RUDELY ABOUT THE CLIP!!

Read the SIDE NOTES!! she explained everything!! OMG! so ridiculous!!!

  • i dont think those guys are hmong cuz the father doesnt like hmong he sound like chinese he also look like chinese

  • i am hmong and i love my people and our religion and the people who change to Christianity (in my opinion) have lost there some of there history!!

  • Guy's c'mon, this is HOLLYWOOD, it's as bad as Gran Torino, but hey, they are doing this for show and what would sell to the majority

  • If you guys really want to see real Hmong Shamanism search Hmong Shaman in youtube. You'll see real Hmong Shamanism.

  • Lol I'm Hmong and nothing like that probably because I'm Christian

  • this video pisses me off! this isnt HMONG! this is CRAP!

  • This reminds me of an amazing book called "The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down" about a Hmong refugee family's struggle with American doctors and neither understanding the other's culture.

  • do you know where i could watch the whole ep for this?

  • ummm... no hmong girl looks like that... no hmong elder speaks english with that type of accent....

this is so "a load of crap"... and i find this offensive....

  • omgee finally someone agrees with me!!!!

  • yep

  • they put chinese they should put hmong instend

  • Haha, I love how Holloywood exaggerates life! Hmong guy smoking big cigars, in his $3,000 suit, speaks fluent english, a shaman being transported on a helicopter and super ass strict superstition? But hey, it's not as exaggerated as Gran Torino, even though Gran Torino got like over 50 exaggerations, but it's just Hollywood, it's not meant for Hmong people, it's for the enjoyment for the majority of Americans who watch it

  • good observation, eminopi.

  • hey I agree!

  • yes i totally agreee

  • i searched through a bunch of the sites, most of them were either fake, or fake AND gave me viurses, but i did manage to find a good site the comment for it probably been deleated already so its blackboxshows. com/greys_anatomy

  • paulapink88 - The song is called "Don't Forget Me" by Way Out West

  • I believe most shamans arent 500 miles away from the family. this is so poorly inaccurate. and no offense, most "rich" white-wash type hmong families nowaday dont do jingle bells. theyre either christians or have no strong beliefs in between.

and ive never seen a "Hmong elder" smoke cigar like that b4 in my whole life hahaha

  • Comment removed

  • "Sure" and I didn't say anything about how I know more. Just from being a Hmong person, in all my experinces, there has never been a case that I have seen a Hmong shaman called 500 miles away to do a one day ritual at a hospitol. 500 miles is about halfway across the counrty. As I said, 'most' shamans are community leaders, and are within the same state as the people they heal.

  • i gave you a thumbs down, because i'm pretty sure you gave me the thumbs down. :p but okay, i agree with everything you wrote .... because i was in a really bad mood when i wrote that message... sorry.

  • you said everything i wanted to say for this vdo!!! nicely said! totally agree with you :)

  • on 3:05 did he say "Mr. Chue"? I didnt know that was one of the last name.. well that was pretty good.. tho nobody there looks hmong.. they should have some hmong dialect tho.. and they all look like rich chinese people

  • what's the name of the last song? can anyone help me?

  • To mandead10 are u even a shaman have u ever seen it done before are you even Hmong well if u are u must be white washed cause u dun understand the concept of a shaman unless u are one u shouldn't say shyt like that!!!

  • Btw, the only Hmong people in here is the shaman and the two guys that came in with him.

  • I see my buddy Lang in the bg but you can't see his face. But yes, I agree with some of you. Can't do the thing at the hospital. They shouldve done this at home and just have her shirt or something present if she can't make it out of the hospital. Atleast that's what I heard and wouldve been better but oh well. I love Grey's Anatomy!!!

  • this is wrong so wrong

  • Interesting, I think this potrays the Hmong culture in a better view compared to Gran Turino. Though it's not the best, this can help people know a little bit more about us Hmong. Good find.

  • this is so rong!!!! im a shaman and you cant do this stuff in a hosiptal!!!

  • where the rules of hmong culture said we cant do it?

  • Yes you can in my area 209. Go to Merced Sun Start website and search for hmong family then you will find the details.

  • I don't know what you guys are all talking about. They tried their best. Can any of you get into the minds of other people and portray them? I don't think so.

  • lol... this is not even how we HMONG roll!

  • Some how I find this relating to Indians. Its different but has the same point.

  • It's fucking Hollywood what do people expect unless it's in a classroom...

  • LOL! did he say miss chu?? i dont recalling ever heard of that last name... i heard of cha but not chu

  • First and Foremost, Yes it's nice to know they're trying to educate the world about us Hmong ppl. But when you're trying to educate the world about us, do it the right way. We don't want to be judged and be protrayed the right way. Couple things wrong, a Shaman can never do the ceremony at a hospital. It needs to be done at the person's house in front of a "shrine". And the girl acted as if her "lost soul" came back to her. How retarded!!!!! Also fire is prohibited at the hospital.

  • They painted a wrong picture about the Hmong. This is kinda like Gran Torino. This is not what a Hmong family would do.
