What would be the problem of putting a good set of gears in? If it can get to 50 mph on just the 1 speed they said it currently has, I see no reason for it not to get over 100...
There is a reason it won't get over 100. An electric engine generates a linear power curve all the way up the scale, therefore there is no need for gearing like a combustion engine to always get the engine operating near the high point of its power curve range. The engine probably produces very little heat - if you want to go faster to 100, jack up the amount of electric current you are able to deliver to it. But then you run into another problem, your efficiency starts to drop.
i like it. People have to realize though that since this is a prototype that much more improvement is inevitable in the near future. The price will go down with anything that has been in production for awhile. They have to recoup there extensive research, testing, tooling up costs. I bet that within a year of production they will have a far superior model out for the next production year
As a biker it's far too quiet and quiet is not very safe. The sound of a bike engine triggers that, I need to watch out for a biker, mentality that helps prevent accidents. Defensive riding is of course paramount but without any sound announcing your presence this can be a problem.
Rubbish. Kids or bicyclists or pets or deer or cows on the street generate absolutely no noise, and you don't watch for those??? Oh, thunk, what was that, dunno, doesn't matter, probably some stupid kid, as long as it wasn't some big loud faggot Harley I'm okay with it. My points is, you need to be watching with your eyes, all the time, everywhere, in the direction you are headed, not with your ears. Don't drive with your eyes closed.
Beat up the design a little. Add some more batteries and get the range to AT LEAST 100 miles. You will knock out two birds with one stone. And as for speed, make it go at least 70 mph.
Then lower the price a little. I would pay at most 6-7 grand for an electric bike like that.
As an industrial designer I like the styling. Although, it could be a little more aggressive looking. Why do all "green" machines have to have a cutesy pooh look to them. As a long time motorcyclist I like the clean energy alternative. Kudos to Brammo for bringing a well thought out and designed product into the alternative vehicle market.
Pet peeve either lower the seat height or make it adjustable - there is nothing but air underneath it. Yes, faster and more range would be nice too.
seems like the us is very far behind in electric motor technology. Japan has a new electric bike prototype called the sumo, goes over 100 miles on a charge, up to 93 miles an hour, also they making a scooter version for under 3k...
is there a larger seat for us heavyweights? it will be awesome with belt final drive. is the carbon fibre model the lime color bike in this video? im a convert!!!
It would be nice to see this bike run, but what do you do? You have music over and faff about with stupid kiddie motion effects. You totally invalidate the purpose of the vid.
current = torque
voltage = speed !

I'm no expert, but he did say something about that limiting the range. But, if you can get your hands on better batteries then why not?

Eh, 53 mph aint fast enough. Way too expensive.
Here is my advice.
Beat up the design a little. Add some more batteries and get the range to AT LEAST 100 miles. You will knock out two birds with one stone. And as for speed, make it go at least 70 mph.
Then lower the price a little. I would pay at most 6-7 grand for an electric bike like that.
You do those 4 things. You got a customer.

Exactly, it needs more speed, more range, and less price. It should also have belt or shaft drive.

thats pretty sick looking for an electric bike..

i'd make a chopper with that

That is one young lead engineer. Good luck kid.
I wonder when Brammo is going to come out with their advertised supper car, Wiki says that it will be Battery Electra like the Tesla.

However the Sumo is considerably larger and not yet aimed at the general public... ;-)

its pretty nice. but like the bane of most electric motorcycles, it needs 2 gears. its a shame to limit to 45mph a bike that can go well over 150
theinneruniverse 3 years ago
The Chinese electricbikes can do 70 mph. Hotrodders push it to 100 mph.

at $12000 in this economy it will flop.

thats fantastic a 30mph limited speed version would be fantastic for 16 year olds in the uk

Sod that, I want a proper hard core version that will make the chavs shit and piss themselves at traffic lights!
