When I was a child (born 1945) several of Spike's records were resident in our home. I played them so often that I memorised them. Since then, I have managed to collect virtually all of Spike Jones band songs and musical pieces. And don't be misled: it takes a very good band to play so badly while still keeping the tune and cadence. And this was an excellent orchestra.
i think xylophones add a special comedic twist to things.... not sure what it is, but it just makes things funnier. lol. wish we had this kinda comedy nowadays.
Too cool. When I was a kid I discovered my parent's Spike Jones records, along with some Beethoven records. I had it all! The family get-togethers were pretty musical and my uncle Walter would play the washboard (seen here with Spike). Thanks for the upload. Gotta send it to the family kids.
This song makes feel very nervous and I don't know why. Maybe it's the tempo of the music, maybe I have an irrational fear of banana shortages? I'm sure there is a scientific term for this.
@foreilly1958 This song is from 1922 and WWII started with the invasion of Poland in 1939; the great depression started in 1929 so we can't blame that neither, it is suggested that the Panama disease started in early 1900 and reached its higher peak in the 50's and affected the banana production areas worldwide being the main cause of the shortage of bananas in the US; but who knows...
These guys were the masters of inspired lunacy. These numbers demanded the precision of a circus band with a trapeze act. Think it's easy? Anyone want to try? This is a first magnitude example of the comic possibilities in music.
@georgejonesfan93 OH, it's been in more than just Sabrina. It's been covered, tributed, referred to, etc etc so many times, and yet it is still funny!
OMG!!!!!!! These guys were musical geniuses!!!! Too bad there is nothing today that can even START to compare with them cause this world could sure use a big dose of this medicine!!!!!!!!!!! TenStarsplus !!!!!!!!
That's it man. Barack should get the white house and the pentagon on this shit...same for Amahdinajad and the rest of them crazies. Takin' the piss is the way to nirvana.
The Teen Titans referenced this song in one of their episodes. Someone told me what the reference meant. That's how I got here :D
