  • does original wing chun has hook punch ?

  • for sharing ideas,( i respect everyones opinions) here is Ho Kam Mings answer on the hook, Hawkins was with him at this seminar

Question: May I ask about the application for the Wing Chun hook punch?

Master Ho: (Master Ho demonstrated guiding the opponent and then striking.) This punch is best used to the body; there's more protection in this. But you can use these techniques any way you wish. Like writing, after you learn how to write, you can write anything you like.

  • the hook is in Yip Man WC and could just as easily be an elbow and is found in teachings of several of Yip Man wing chun Hong Kong students

  • There is no round punching in Ving Tsun. Elbows strike from the center from SLT inception.Chum Kil simply points the same lines as SLT. BG is used to recover the centered elbow or reface a position with arms laterally.

  • Nice clip. It shows the round punch from Biu Jee. There is a discussion on a WC forum about there not being a round punch in WC. Well there is in my lineage and it was used as I would use it.

  • Now that was NICE!!!!

  • cloudkicker- thanks for your interest, the 8 punches i teach include drilling punch, hook, uppercut, straight punch, raising punch, diagnol punch, etc etc they can all be found in the forms or concepts of the forms, etc. As for centerline you cannot maintain always straight line but you have the centerline by lopping him to the side, but if using straightline punches when in close, they will be jammed ,so their are many circles in wing chun, and yes the hook shown could be an elbow of course\

  • Great video, few questions though.

Does the hook,as shown still keep the centerline?

And please could you name some of the types of punches in the '8 punches' you referred to.

    thank you!

  • all arts are good, with a good teacher, I am glad people enjoy some of the clips, it's all in fun.Think of martial arts like cars, all have the same components but are driven by a different engine Body method and power generation is what makes arts different in flavor.

  • Isn't that supposed to be an elbow strike?

  • I really do respect the Wing Chun form of Wushu. In close-up melee fighting, performed by a seasoned martial artist i believe its superior to many other martial arts due to its spectacular 'floating'-like style.

  • WC has all the boxe punches...I'm not talking about Wing Tsun of Leung Ting

  • thanks for your interest,

  • All arts are practical, wc hook punch is in biu gee form, and is also one of the 8 punches, by practical means not in a wc drill format,or form format

  • Hmm the funny thing is that you say "using wing chun in a practical way" - wait, isnt wing chun supposed to BE practical? And is there a hook punch in Wing Chun? which form is it in? or maybe you meant that the hook punch is using wing chun in a practical way in which case wing chun really isnt practical...

Having said all that, in the video he could just have easily used a punch or elbow and got the same effect.

  • nice !!!

  • looks like a silat attitude in that

  • It is funny you say that... I tell people that wing chun(specifically biu gee) is alot like silat, and the attitude of wing chun is loose, flexible and aggressive. Biu Gee in its purest form is muscle strikes and jabs. And WC is not a rigid art, like many think. It is very pliable and yet strong. I had a great teacher.
