It seemed to me WCW was always taking the attention away from what was going on in the ring. It was always the NWO or something else, like this. I remember years ago while I watched a show, my mom was in the room and asked, 'what are the commentators talking about? That's not what going on in the ring!' I was like, 'wow. Even she noticed.' =/
Bam Bam Bigelow should have been given the goldberg undefeated gimmick. I guess he was too injury prone but it really would have been alot better to have him do it instead of Goldberg.
Yea guys like bam bam and vader were scarry to even watch on tv in their prime, and biggalo was so agile for his size it was a treat to watch him, true talent
I love how the announcers are saying "What the heck is he doing here?" & "Hes not employed with WCW," but yet he's conveniently dressed in his wrestling gear....
Bam Bam Bigelow hadn't been in WWF for years at this point. So this technically wasn't a jump from the WWF. Bam Bam Bigelow was mainly in independents and ECW before this happened.
@2011mrkingofkings Money. A lot of the guys that were in the ECW ( especially the more established guys like Shane Douglas and Bam Bam Bigelow.) were offered considerably more money from Eric Bischoff than what Paul Heyman and Tod Gordon could afford to pay them. ECW was also getting into financial trouble by this time, because of skyrocketing salaries being paid out ( primarily by the WCW) and their paycheques were starting to bounce.
This was so awesome, especially the following weeks as Nash got involved!! these men just wanted a peice of each others ass and it made for a good storyline in my opinion!!!
Bam Bam drives around in his wrestling gear? Now that's a real man ladies and gentlemen!!!! Man, WCW started this off big time. Bam Bam was awesome!!!! The crowd was so fired up. Gotta love it!!!
@mightyjoe618 You do realize, of course, that "something like this" would be Mark Henry showing up out of nowhere and getting into a confrontation with Matt Morgan followed by three minutes of Eric Bischoff yelling at Hulk Hogan, right? I don't think there would be a whole lot of "people talkin" about a Henry-Morgan feud.
This angle really could lit the fire that was fading in WCW. It could have lasted a few months even had it been done right. Unfortunately we got the finger poke of doom instead at Starrcade 1998. And the ratings fell flat and fast in 1999. Goldberg never was in any real legitimate feuds during that whole undefeated streak and that ended up up hurting him IMO. When the nWo screwed him over even that was played through poorly.
@hbk2hhh Yea. My mistake. I was thinking of the whole cattle prong thing and finger poke of doom thing being part of one giant cluster f*ck. The whole thing was just a big joke on the fans. A time when WCW made its final big step backwards where the fans really started tuning out.
I remember this night like it was yesterday. This was in Wichita KS. I took my dad who is one of those "todays wrestling is shit compared to my day" kind of guys. Much like I am now when looking back to these days. Anyway he was acting through the entire show like he wasnt interested at all, always sitting down and shit, until this segment when security filled the ring. Then he stands up and says "ok whats going on here?" He thought it was real. Damn I miss these days.
At least Bam Bam got a cool and fitting introduction to the company. HOWEVER I always used to hate it when a match would be going on and they'd cut away from it for something happening backstage. Ah well, Bam Bam was one of the best big men to ever step inside the squared circle. Rest in Peace, Bam Bam
Listen, Bammer, I understand you want Goldberg. I understand that WCW will let you trespass on their show. I understand that it's perfectly fine to waste valuable air time, but dammit man, don't you EVER interrupt another Scott Putski match like that again!
That was the most work Doug Dillenger did in the entire duration with the company...there are some funny stories in Ric Flair's book about him, including one where he allowed one of Flair's robes to be stolen. Bret Hart said the same thing about his ring jackets being stolen in his book too.
great angle and i always thought wcw was a shambles in late 98. this is the type of stuff that would make me wanna watch a tv show or buy a ppv, like the joe-angle confrontation in 06. rip scott charles bigelow
Man Bigelow could have owned like a motherfucker if they just let him. Together with Mike Awesome (RIP) he was the best big man who ever stepped in the ring. I miss him.
Out of curiosity, what was with Bischoff blaming JJ? I know it was scripted, in kayfabe, however the rest of this video was really cool, just that one part threw me off
Doubt it. I don't like Goldberg but I've seen Bam-Bam try his hand at the MMA world and he wasn't very good. In contrast it's my understanding that despite being punked by Jericho, Goldberg's actually well versed in Ju Jitsu and can go in a shoot fight.
I was totally at this event. It was rocking. I've never lost my voice like that before. Wichita, Kansas of all places. This Nitro was hot from top to bottom minus a couple of the matches like the one going on at the beginning of this clip and something with that Iceberg guy...Glacier? Best show I've ever been to, and in my opinion one of the best Nitros ever. Who knew WCW was just a short spurt away from complete demise. How could they screw up this kind of intensity so quickly? Oh yea, Nash!
Nitro at its peak was by far and away the best, most unpredictable wrestling show ever. You just never knew what was going to happen - mainly because the bookers had no real idea what was going to happen until the day of the show. But it made for some great television. Good times.
This STILL gives me goosebumps. You gotta love true live tv. This is how you book a live show. You have to give the viewer a feeling that anything can happen.
@ColorsBright While I loved ECW can you blame Bam Bam for leaving? He was owed money and while loyalty means alot supporting yourself and your family is more important.

yeah Nitro rocked from about 95-99. NWO I think would have not got old had they kept the group count low maybe 6 guys max. But they wore out the concept.
its sad wcw went out of business. I felt wcw was more full of surprises, with better wrestling. But vince always has the advantage, despite how well wcw does to promote its brand. i miss wcw!
ah, sorry, I just realized you were responding to most dangerous man thing, lol, I thought you were only talking about him being in WCW one time at first, my mistake, lol
To the dumb fucks below. Bam Bam Bigelow was not just driving up from the supermarket, or anything like that. He came for Goldberg, hence why he was in gear. Dumbasses.
first of all, if this was "real" why they hell would bam bam be riding around wearing that stupud outfit? haha. just a coincidence he shows up in his wrestling gear with his wrists taped. was he on his way to the supermarket?
imagine ur at a bar and ur a bit drunk then u hear one beer in a deep voice from behind then u turn round to see a 6ft something balding blonde dude with large pythons in a ripped yellow t-shirt yellow underpants....
in ecw he was def at the top, his feud with taz was as big as anything during that time, plus he was champion for a short time, so in ecw he was above midcard level
You damn right he was I wish he couldve atleast got another ECW title run before it folded or atleast in TNA as champion before his death RIP BAM BAM one of tha best big men EVER!!! He als0 was another "Monster" from tha USA who did VERY VERY well in Japan!

yes guys, the NWO eventually got stale but for 86 weeks in a row Nitro was the BALLS.

yeah Nitro rocked from about 95-99. NWO I think would have not got old had they kept the group count low maybe 6 guys max. But they wore out the concept.

I was at this Nitro! It happened in Wichita, KS! Goldberg and Bam Bam dragged their fight to the side of the entrance way at the time the show ended.

I was totally there too. Sad that the match at the end ended like that though. There were some great moments and matches that night too.

lol.."wcw has never had someone come in like this"LOL..forget about the outsiders..WCW was SOOO LAME

Another failed project by WCW. That was an awesome debut. This could have been so cool. Instead WCW dropped the ball and faded Bam Bam out.

its sad wcw went out of business. I felt wcw was more full of surprises, with better wrestling. But vince always has the advantage, despite how well wcw does to promote its brand. i miss wcw!

CapTashman 2 years ago
ah, sorry, I just realized you were responding to most dangerous man thing, lol, I thought you were only talking about him being in WCW one time at first, my mistake, lol
lordraven9 2 years ago
The announcers saying theyve never seen anything like it in the history of wcw, somebody just walking into the ring from outside!!
Eh......scott hall and kevin nash 1996????

To the dumb fucks below. Bam Bam Bigelow was not just driving up from the supermarket, or anything like that. He came for Goldberg, hence why he was in gear. Dumbasses.
Daedryon 3 years ago
what a big pussy goldberg is, comes out after security come out, bam bam would fuck him up
darksayese 3 years ago
and the best part is at the end when JJ Dillon drives off in the same red cadillac that bam bam showed up in. classic, i love it
mavjer53 3 years ago 4
first of all, if this was "real" why they hell would bam bam be riding around wearing that stupud outfit? haha. just a coincidence he shows up in his wrestling gear with his wrists taped. was he on his way to the supermarket?
mavjer53 3 years ago
LMAO! I was thinking the same thing. You'd think they have enough sence to have him come out in street clothes if he's showing up unannounced.

so true
imagine ur at a bar and ur a bit drunk then u hear one beer in a deep voice from behind then u turn round to see a 6ft something balding blonde dude with large pythons in a ripped yellow t-shirt yellow underpants....
why would bam bam turn up in his gear??
sycomac 3 years ago
in ecw he was def at the top, his feud with taz was as big as anything during that time, plus he was champion for a short time, so in ecw he was above midcard level
thegreattaylor 3 years ago 2
You damn right he was I wish he couldve atleast got another ECW title run before it folded or atleast in TNA as champion before his death RIP BAM BAM one of tha best big men EVER!!! He als0 was another "Monster" from tha USA who did VERY VERY well in Japan!
