  • @LVB1770 that's funny......xD

  • Whats the piece at 12:50? PLEASE tell me :D

  • Beethoven was one of the most legendary composers ever born onto earth he created the most beautiful music, he could do soo much even when he was deaf! his music is amazing!

  • @LVB1770 Maybe at shaking his pelvis he was.

  • What was failed to mention is that Beethoven"s father beat him and kept him locked in his room a virtual prisoner.

  • The greatest German musical genius in history isn't Bach, Beethoven or Mozart. It's David Hasselhoff.

  • @tomthefunky roflmao...

  • The popularity and relevance of symphonic form, sonata form...etc. are steeped in the rhythms and lifestyles of the time. Is there such a thing as a "permanent human condition" to which the arts can speak to us ? Is this adoration of the past little more than a guarantee for the preservation of "high culture" and it's wealthy patriarchal, war loving guardians ? Modernity has shown us that most art is concerned with narcissism rather than a display of an eternal sacred geometry of the soul.

  • Musicians after Beethoven had to either expound on what he had done, or step foot on an entirely different musical path-- there was no use going back to what was heard before Beethoven. There must have been an outiside force playing a role in his compositions, maybe Beethoven himself was from somewhere else-- the music exceeds human genius, that's all I know; it is entirely separate from everything that came before and after it.

  • Beethoven's music is just as inspirational as it is frustrating for the modern day music writer. As Berstein says, Beethoven was the master of musical inevitablitiy. He could write something so unpredictable yet make it sound so right and proper, as if God himself wrote it, or at least helped in writing it. It's other-worldly and universal, and throughout his entire career he tickled and enraged every emotion through his music, leaving very little space for others to create something better.

  • What's the name of the piece being played from 1:20 onwards? :)

  • @ragtimesamtime Symphony no. 7, 3rd movement

  • Elvis and Ludwig would have been great Mates. I think they are making music as we speak.

  • Elvis was a "black belt" in karate, so if Elvis and Beethoven fought Elvis would kick Beethoven's ass. That much is clear. 70's Elvis had the weight advantage too, but if you want to go young Elvis vs. young Beethoven, I might be tempted to bet on Beethoven (especially after a couple of lagers). I think young Beethoven would just REFUSE TO LOSE.

  • @freedomland11....Thanx! but that's nonsense!! you can't compare Genius with "girls screaming" for lyrics like "you ain't nothin but a hound dog"

  • This is a comment from me to everyone here posting comments. Let's please stop all the negative Elvis bashing. Negativity is bad.

" Can't we all just get along?"

    ~Rodney King~

  • Beethoven was God;and Elvis was fuck'n -pansy!

  • fuck elvis! he is nothing at all.Fuck hollywood!.crap!

  • It just goes to show that ONE person could cause a ripple in many clear perspectives. EVERYONE knows that Beethoven's music is LIGHT YEARS beyond Elvis (who basically copied his style from black folks..) but everyone is focused on that statement. This world would be a decent place if idiots didn't make their way onto the main stage. Anyway, Beethoven is a musical GENIUS and im glad to share the same birthday as him! Sagittarius FTW!!

  • Such a beautiful series....am so enjoying them and learning so much - thank you!!

  • Three greatest composers/musicians of all time 1) Beethoven 2) stravinsky, 3) Zappa

  • @fadethetrade what about vivaldi?

  • @Squallleonheartfan decent but not in their league. These guys were the "BIG BOYS" of music. Zappa is in their because of his masterful technical avente garde writing skills and his heavy metal/rock,jazz fusion conbination skills. Universities are using zappas music for study,e.g. black page #1. Stravinsky was stellar in 20th century music style. His "rite of spring' caused many in the audience to get sick and faint! When did you listen to music that had that type of profound reaction on people?

  • I really should know this, but it's completely skipped my mind - what's the symphony played on the introduction?

  • ...WTF, Elvis better than Beethoven??? O.o

  • Who else thought of Nodame Cantabile at 1:21?

  • @ruo58742 that's right, but Bach comes close.

  • Wonderful. The best composer ever appeared on earth.

  • @Borinism ...have you ever heard about somenone named Johann Sebastian Bach??? :/

  • @Borinism ...have you ever heard about someone named Johann Sebastian Bach?? :/

  • Fantastic Post:)

  • wow i cant believe i took beethoven for granted D:

    so amazing

  • please, i need legends in spanish or portuguese for this documentary. Someone know where do I find?

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Beethoven will always be The Maestro!

  • I cant believe the amount of shit that has been written comparing Elvis and Beethoven only because some moron wrote a careless stupid comment. Of course there were guys like Elvis in Beethovens time who sang and made the ladies wet their pussies. Do we remember them now? The people contemporary to Elvis that will be remembered two hundred years from now are Stravinsky and Bartok, not Elvis. I even doubt that the Beatles will be remembered

  • Amen!

  • @AAtaak yep, er... and the earth is a sphere. good point

  • bach would love heavy metal

  • YES! 1:20 , Symphony No. 7 probably my favorite Beethoven Symphony, next to the Ninth! :)

  • what is this ! I can't believe people are comparing Elvis to Beethoven . Beethoven was a master of all instruments , a master of getting out true human emotions from deepest of all corners. Elvis is good for this generation but never we can compare him to beethoven , elvis music is most of electronics and loud noises to pump up not magic like beethoven , not the variations and the improvisation that beethoven had . Come on people , get for real .

  • elvis doesn't hold a candle to beethoven in any sense of the word, LfunkeyA is one of those people who either doesn't understand music or art...probably both

  • youre an idiot.

  • adamalgorithm got it covered

  • MegaHenry111,

Elvis better than Beethoven? PLEASE! The world has been listening to Beethovens music for more than 230 years! He did sing in choirs and he composed over 150 lieder songs. Beethoven also played Piano, Organ, Violin and Viola. Elvis DID NOT compose his own music. Beethoven

composed thousands of compositions and Elvis, ZERO! Plus Beethoven composed some of his best music when he was DEAF! I am an Elvis fan but Elvis did not compose the greatest symphony of all time!

  • the world has been listening to beethoven's music for more than 230 years because his music is much older than Elvis'. it's absolutely pointless to compare the two.

  • @LVB1770 Plus All Elvis did was steal black people's music. well not steal but take credit for it, people didint want to see these great black artist, so just went out found elvis, who could sing by the way, but all he did was take credit for other peoples music, he was a great performer but EXTREMELY OVER RATED! everyone thinks hes number when in reality he should be like top 25 at best! also he never composed one single song, while Beethoven, .. i mean why are we even comparing.

  • @LVB1770 Agreed. I think a more apt comparison to Beethoven from this century is the Beatles... they composed all their own music, it affected people very deeply worldwide, over 200,000 people gathered in Central Park when John Lennon died... similar to Beethoven's funeral.

  • @LVB1770 How can you guys even compare Elvis and Beethoven? Rock'n'roll and classical? xD It's a whole different time and music in general

  • Hi BlackRose1453, Actually Classical and Rock and Roll are not all that different. Classical in interwoven into Rock. Yes it is a whole different time but Classical music has had a huge influenced on Rock and Roll. Beethoven influenced Elvis, the Beatles, Queen, Zappa and many others. Metallica played with the SF Symphony, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen play with Symphony orchestras and the list goes on and on.

  • @LVB1770 Okay, it makes sense. It was just the whole Elvis and Beethoven comparison xD I'm a huge rock'n'roll fan but I have big respect for classical music. Thanks for clearing that up^^

  • @LVB1770

If they are not all that different techno and classical aren't either.

There seems to be a correlation between people liking classical music and rock and metal, and they often say about how people transcribe classical to metal, but you can transcribe any melody to any genre.

From a technical stand point, the only major difference are instruments. Classical is usually far more complex and usually uses a huge variety of instruments different (but its not a rule).

  • @LVB1770 I believe the person you've just responded to killed himself, and so he should. Brilliantly stated my friend =D

  • Elvis and Beethoven are different. I love listening to both, and i wouldnt say either ones better. How good was Elvis at classical? And how good was beethoven and rock? Theyre two different people. So why compare? Just enjoy them both :]

  • Elvis is good, but I have to disagree. I will choose Beethoven over Elvis a thousand times. Elvis is light entertainment music, Beethoven is sublime art.

Comparing Beethoven with Elvis is like comparing anewspaper article with Shakespear 's Hamlet. While I enjoy reading the newspaper from time to time, it does not deserve a special place in the cultural legacy of humanity.

  • however you look at it, that's your opinion

  • not really, unless you are a postmodernist who thinks that all ideas are equally valid. My opinion is the opinion of the experts in musicology and the opinion of the millions of people who have listened to Beethoven for 200 years. These people outnumber the fans of Elvis.

  • not really, you're just being ignorant and self-righteous. your opinion is the opinion of the experts in musicology, great, they're not all the people on earth. the millions of people who have listened to Beethoven for 200+ years may outnumber Elvis' fans, but nonetheless Elvis does have fans, and so do most known musicians. Thus it all comes down to opinion and personal taste. If you believe that Beethoven is the greatest maker of music, that's your opinion. Numbers don't matter.

  • Ok then I claim that my music is as good as Elivs' and even better than Beethoven. If you tell me that this is not true then according to your irrational thinking you are being ignorant and self-righteous.

  • no, according to my rational thinking i will tell you that your claim is subjective. its opinion, not fact. i won't tell you that you're wrong, because you don't have true/false when it comes to art. and no, i try to minimize my ignorance and self-righteousness as much as i can.

  • @Haxxin Elvis compared with Beethoven? What medications are you taking?.I want to get wasted too!!!!

  • @MegaHenry111 you got TOLD lol

  • thats precisely the reason why the bbc documentary is crap: its a soap opera that doesnt state anything about the music and its meaning, made for stupid people that want to remain as stupid as they were before the film

  • Aristydes- Last time checked, it was Charles Hazlewood in the Beethoven Documentary made by BBC, who explained the personal experience of Beethoven, musical significance, innovations, influence from senior composers, depth, compositional uniqueness, etc in works like Grosso Fugue, Eroica Symphony, Pastoral Symphony, Hammerklavier, Appassionata, Sonata una quasi fantasia, Missa solemnis, choral fantasia, 9th symphony, adieu sonata, 4th piano concerto, 4th symphony, and many others.

  • These geniuses were ancient rock stars. The sound was so sweet that they shared with us all.

  • by art he lived alone-meaning his art is enough for him to forever be known-we could have never known his name & he would still be known always

  • 9:29-3:17 is just beautiful. I love the strings at the beginning. They sound so much like flowing water. :)

  • Where can I download this movie with a Russian translation? anyone say pls

  • Wonderfull!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • what book is he reading from in the beginning?

  • I love these f-ing guys

  • Not them again!

  • 5'3" 3/4 genius.

  • i feel a bit embarrassed asking this since im an absolute beethoven douche but does anyone know what starts playing at 7:20? it sounds like a full orchestra, and the intro to the 2nd movement of something, but ive exhausted my collection

  • What you hear at 7:20 is from the 3rd Symphony, 4th movement (extract). I would consider to expand your collection with this astounding symphony.

  • While i think that this documentary is just the greatest ever made, i am shocked that it is so difficult to acquire one in Europe. It is avaible in USA but the VHS type there is not suitable for my recorder. Many thanks for uploading it.

  • Wonderful documentary of the greatest composer of all time!

  • Fantastic

  • thanks a lot

  • Thanks so much for putting up this video!

  • what a ridiculous comment!

  • it's not that bad, it's not offensive or dishonest in anyway. Relax.

  • I meant to say that it was a ludicrous comment

  • First learn to write well! Your comment sounds puerile. Then go to a music store and get the scores.

  • I have a whole book of Beethoven sonatas. i'll see what can be done.

  • Wikipedia's page about the Moonlight Sonata has an external link at the bottom of the page which has Moonlight Sonata, the complete Sonata, all three movements.

  • thank you so much for this. thank you thank you

  • Thanks to you riosdrummer. I am a drummer also!

  • THankss a Lot.........

I love beethoven and his music than anything in this world.

Sadly i want to compose like beethoven too:)

  • Who knows the title of the music played beginning at 5:40?

  • Hey maxbaguet124, The music is the Adagio, Allegro Con Brio from Beethoven's Symphony No.2 in D major.

  • There's more of the 2nd Symphony starting at 9:28 - the slow movement

  • Awesome.

  • As below. Good on you.

  • Thanks tobyjw!

  • Thank you sooooo much for the upload^^!!!! I've been looking for a decent Beethoven documentary on youtube and the title pretty much says it all.

  • Thanks NeoCompoer, I will post parts 3 and 4 for soon. Balint Vazsonyi was a wonderful pianist.

His Liszt Hungarian Rhapsodies some of the best I have ever heard.
