  • Is his dad doing tutorials too?

  • 1:53 that part of the process would take me 10 minutes. I'm a perfectionist, so I HAVE to count the pixels to make sure it's in the EXACT middle.

  • HOLY MOTHER OF GOD.

I was just watching you do typography and bubbles... I went to your channel to see what else there is to offer...

    Who are you again?

  • Hi Braedon, can I know which programme do you use to make your videos?

I once tried to record a tutorial but the size was insane... I would appreciate your help :)

  • nice tutorial, but as for me it's better to do a pressed-text effect by duplicating a text layer twice and then make any of the two of them of a dark gray color. After that move the other one of it some pixels right and down, then make a selection of it. And in the end you just delete useless parts of the text shadow using the selection. or you can just drag a selection without making a duplicate layer. A way with brush tool seems to me a bit messy.tnx.

  • could you slow down a bit?

  • I was realizing how much you would be changes, but I didän't expect that much. Nice tutorial btw :)

  • Do you have/ does he have a facebook page or a profile? It's much faster that way than with emails. (i hate email)

  • Ok... Good tutorial. Just one thing, Can you explain a little bit more in some areas? Sorry for bad english ( on iPod )

  • Dear @GimpKnowHow, I was wondering, how to do fire flower.. It's like a flower shape make from fire.. you can google it up. Just type "fire flower".. Please Please teach me.. It's so awesome.

  • since when did you start running on windows 7?

  • @MiStErGiMpStEr since he upgraded his computer.

  • @hheintze1 from mac to windows...seems like more of a downgrade than an upgrade, but thats my opinion.

  • @MiStErGiMpStEr I'm talking about the hardware. he has a better graphics card, processor et cetera.

  • The quick way to do inner shadow:

create duplicate of text layer, fill black

    move duplicate on top

    alpha to selection duplicate

use Move tool with mode set on "Move selection"

    select -> feather

    Delete

  • an idea for the "sunken in effect" (how i do it):

    duplicate the text 2x

1 stays (the grey one), 1 becomes black and move the last alitte bit to the right and down (for your example that the light comes from up-left)

alpha-to-selction the moved layer then select the black layer and press "del"

use gaussian blur then alpha to selction from the grey text

select the blurred layer and invert the selection. press "del" then again

so u get the press in effect more accurate and faster ;)

  • @GimpKnowHow What's your LoL name?? I'll add u.

  • What recording software do you use? Extremly good video quality :D

  • Very bad tutorial!!!

  • Puberty <3

  • Hay just wanted to know why you are not useing your mac???

  • Someone who says "I'm gonna go ahead and..." alot has appeared in your life. Do you have a new executive style girlfriend or something?

  • dont you think its a bit misleading to say gimpknowhow for your channel and devote it mainly to photoshop, and i understand why ur using photoshop and while you can follow the tutorial in gimp most of the time, its still misleading, what if a new viewer watches ur video and sees photoshop and then leaves? besides its easier for ur fans to follow a tutorial directly from gimp.

  • He sounds like Captain Sparklez :D

  • Finally! I've been waiting for you to come back.

Also, I feel like you've hit puberty like twice in this whole time that I've been watching your videos, way to go! :P

  • i like it when you use gimp

  • Thanks so much for creating a GIMP version of this tutorial. I love this button and I am glad you are back

  • hey what screen recorder do you use?

  • YOURE BACK :D

  • @leroyboy18 he was bak now he died again

  • You still use "-ish" endings... I love that (limeish :) ) Please keep making tutorials for GIMP. I started working with it just because your videos.

  • I missed you GKH :D

  • Welcome back! Thanks for the GIMP tut.

  • Niiiice

  • Man great work!

  • for an easier way to make the pressed in effect goto my channel and learn how i cant explain its too complicated

  • I dont do much graphics. But the one thing I do miss, that isn't in GIMP. Is the ability to right click a layer and add shadows, borders, bevels to the edges of text. Makes the biggest difference to me.

  • Thank you SOOO much!!!! :)

  • Very cool. Thanks for showing both versions.

  • Thanks dude, really happy that you're still uploading GIMP tutorials :)

  • I liked your real voice!! ;(

  • @xJannixx :DD You made me laugh, weird, huh?

  • Thanks!!!

  • HIS BALLS ARE TOUCHINHG THE FUCKING FLORORO1!!

  • This guys isn't charismatic but he's entertaining me! ;D

  • lets go ahead and go...

  • Great tutorials as usual. I still feel pretty gimpy trynna keep up, but keep coming back to your tut's. I feel like an idiot since I thought, judging by your voice, you were a different person (DOH!) then I read the voice-changer comeback...hilarious.

Since I primarily publish (as a writer), I don't want to buy Photoshop personally, so your tut's def' help a ton. Keep up the solid work, puberty or know, you def' know what you're doin'.

  • @MrBrazenhusseys Er.."puberty or NO" (clearly I need an editor).

  • omg, your voice.

haha you're still awesome 'kid' ;)

  • i see you changed from mac to windows

  • Holy. Fucking. Shit. He's back and deeper than ever. Don't leave.

  • What the FUCK your voice changed lol

  • WHAT THE SHIT! YOUR BAAAACCCKKKK!!!!!!!!! You were one of the reasons I started photoshop and graphic design a few years back! KEEP POSTING AND DONT LEAVE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

  • did you go through puberty?

  • @AXiSnation No, I'm running my voice through software that I use in order to make it sound artificially deeper in order to spark discussion (and by discussion I mean the top comment on every single video) about my voice. It's all part of a plan in order to draw attention to my videos and get more views.

  • @GimpKnowHow so in other words you did... and you also developed an attitude ... tisk tisk

  • @GimpKnowHow Can you pm me the link to voice changer? (if your not joking)

  • @GimpKnowHow Sarcasm test complete.

  • and what is the name of this program o.O

i mean you cant do it with camtasia

  • @GimpKnowHow makes sense

  • what is your voice morphing program cold? O.o

  • @GimpKnowHow You be trollin :P

  • @GimpKnowHow What do you expect? You haven't posted in a year, we don't know what happened during that year :p

  • @AXiSnation obviously,

  • I Realized my passion for graphic design because of you but this is the first video i have seen from you in along time. Did you start making vids on a diffrent channel or somthing?

  • Most people underestimate the power of subtle gradients/shadows. Often you see bad photoshop attempts ruined by a strong shadow. Even though real shadows are about the same intensity, it just doesn't feel right since our focus on the actual object, causes the shadows to blur a larger distance, and to lesser intensity. Our brain loves skimming the novel our eyes create for it to read, by only yielding useful information.

  • Do you mind me asking what kindof screen recording software you are using?

  • To fix the 2 monitor problem:

control panel> appearance> display> (on the sidebar) change display settings> And from there you can change which ever is your default/main monitor.

  • gimp is coming out in a few weeks, you better review it.

  • "GIMP and photoshop aren't that diffident" -GIMPknowhow

Then why not stick to just gimp?

  • @JoshuaF1994 You can make just about the same stuff. But, Photoshop is a lot more reliable and is more effective when creating.

  • @JoshuaF1994 Gimp has a quirky and annoying user interface. For example: random window placements, not being able to group layers quickly and easily, why are there layer boundaries there is literally no reason for them to exist, gimp has no layer styles except in a clunky plugin, photoshop "automatic updates" on the image rather than gimps preview pan, no integrated movement tools (photoshops show transform controls), weird text entry.

  • @GimpKnowHow by "automatic updates" I mean for instance when you gaussian blur something in photoshop it will update on the image and gimp only shows a preview pane of the layer you are blurring.

  • @GimpKnowHow If gimp's dated UI is annoying you you should give 2.7.4 a look. it's much better.

  • @GimpKnowHow gimp deosnt like you becuase u like photoshop more so it makes anoyying stuff...YOU BETTER STICK WITH GIMP

  • @GimpKnowHow Unrelated to your reply that i'm replying to. Could you upload that image to photobucket or similar image hose for a better view at the shadowing? Unless you didnt save it, in which case i wouldnt want you to go through the trouble.

  • @GimpKnowHow FYI: The layer grouping is getting added in GIMP 2.8, if they ever release it. It's already working in the beta 2.7.

To the "automatic updates" (I think you mean inline editing), I don't know about Gausian Blur or many other filters, but there is a new inline iWarp (called "Warp tool") coming in GIMP 2.10; I haven't looked at the code, but it *might* be fairly trivial to extend that same improved interface to the other filters.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by layer boundaries.

  • @lavagolemking Layer boundaries, ie, the yellow and black border around every layer. If you want to designate a selection you can just use the selection tool, I can't think of a single good reason for layer boundaries. I know you can fix it by making the layer the same size as the image I just don't see the reasoning behind it.

  • @GimpKnowHow The reason for the dotted border is because not all layers are the same width/height as the canvas, like if you drag/drop another image, with different dimensions onto the canvas, for example. The dotted border will indicate the edges of that image (its own layer) even when nothing is selected. Although this doesn't matter when flattening or whatever, if you try to rotate/resize or something, then the edges become relevant. Thus, they're are always clearly marked.

  • Wish you still did these regularly than on Photoshop, but I suppose you gotta upgrade to the big leagues sometime, eh?

  • "...unfortunately using two monitors." Ah GimpKnowHow, how you crack me up.

And still using 1280x800 size for images, I see. =)

  • hey gkh..thanks for this gimp tutorial:D btw can u make a tut on how to make youtube channel background?

  • I've been waiting for this since you said you'd do it. It's very nicely done, and it gives me a bunch of ideas on how to improve my techniques. Thanks a lot :D

  • WOW. is this the same person who started this channel?

  • .. you went through puberty

  • You started my graphic design hobby! So glad you're making a few more videos. :)

  • I thought you said only photoshop now..?

    Well, YESH then!

  • Alright, seeya in.. a really long time. xD
