I listen to music the way I drink beer. Seasonally! This is on repeat in the Fall. As we creep into the November month it turns to the Animals album by Pink Floyd.
I always really liked this song. It's so different than most of their songs, not that they don't have a ridiculous variety or anything. I went on Dead tour in 1992 on the east coast when I was just sixteen. Beautiful times, beautiful people. I miss you guys & girls. Most have died off and blended into society. And this band & entire jam-band scene in general saved this would be hoodlum from a life of anger.
Most of the time, my all-time-fave GD song & era = whatever's on right then.
But this song will always hold a special place in my heart: it was the very 1st Dead track I heard (that I’d know by name). I was hitching around the country, & on a long ride from PA to ARK, the kind driver played the same 1 tape over & over: a K-tel compilation called "Heavy Metal." This song (the WoTF version) was a bit of an anomaly... and by the time we got to Little Rock, I was a fan for life.
I had never fully realized or appreciated the depth of musical ability present in the Grateful Dead until this appeared on the Wake of the Flood album in 1973 - this floored me! This coincided with my first awakenings to the joys of jazz music! Now on to part 2!!
@1953jazzman WOTF was never the most appreciated Dead album but definitely one of my favorites, for mood and message. Sorry you were late to the party, but glad you finally made it.
Same old friends the wind and rain.
