@NaveNinja Actually, if you look at the history of Mortal Kombat, the Lin Kuei are technically ninjas. A Lin Kuei member (Takeda) fled to Japan and developed Ninjutsu, the Ninja's martial art, and the Shirai Ryu, Scorpion's clan. Leaving the Lin Kuei is against their code of honor, and the Shirai Ryu mocked them with similar, but yellow suits. The only rational conclusion is that (MK's) Ninjutsu comes from Lin Kuei martial arts. So, the Lin Kuei know Ninjutsu, meaning yes, they are ninjas.

But technicalities aside, Lin Kuei do not call themselves Ninja. Just because they know the art, does not mean they identify with it.

Uh, yes they're ninjas, not just the 2d translations. Sub-Zero is in a ninja clan, as is Scorpion, hence their rivalry/quest for vengeance. Noob is Sub-Zero's murdered brother, resurrected as some sort of Netherrealm ghost. Smoke (and Sektor and Cyrax) is an unwilling member of the Lin Kuei who was converted into a cyborg. Sektor's TekuNIN is cybernetically-enhanced ninjas.
