I remember the day I first heard this song. I stopped what i was doing and got on the bus and went to the local mom and pop store and got the last copy they had of the purple tape. hip hop just don't do that for me anymore. SMH.
The hook and beat alone is a work of art come on now listen closely, you got gun shots in the background with grenades going off with a constant beat be careful half azz rappers the beat might choke you lol...
@diviasee1 Love Liquid Swords. I was just listening to that today. "The liquid soluble that made up the chemistry, a gaseous element that burned down your ministry." Can't tell me Rae and GZA aren't two of the best lyricist to ever do it.
@Nyagee Inspectah Deck & Ghostface Killah are better lyricists than Raekwon the Chef. Ghostface Killah was far better than Raekwon on OBFCL. It should have been a GFK album (Gueststarring the Chef) instead of Rae'. Ghostface Killah was so incredibly consistent over the Wu years. Also the greatest lyricist of all time is GZA and Rae is NOT in the league of GZA if you talk about lyricism. Still respect cause you love LS and OBFCL both classics. Best beat RZA ever created imo.
@rakimkoolgrapwutang That was a long time ago, don't even remember typing that but I agree with what I said there. Glaciers of Ice is still my favorite RZA beat and someone said something like GZA and Raekwon being the illest lyricist. Back then I didn't listen to Immobilarity's lyrics though. Raekwon is a monster on there.
so fuckin sick, i thought it was GZA instead of masta killa for a while too. i read somewhere that GZA took masta killa as his student you can really hear the similarities between their style
Daaaaamn the best still. It says something when this album and Doggystyle are still some of the best rap albums made until this day. Rap has gone downhill...but let's just reminisce about the days when Yo! MTV Raps featured so much dope rap videos my tv broke down regulary. All you old school heads must know...
I think I've read a few times GZA mentored Masta Killa in rapping, as around the time of 36 Chambers all members had been rapping for a number of years except Masta Killa, so perhaps thats why you can see the similartiies between MK and the Genius
So I both Raekwon and Masta Killa yesterday...... and asked both of them why they didn't tell anybody the instrumental to Glaciers is Guillotine fast fowarded....... both of them laughed...... and aint none of them know that.......
We have an APB on an MC Killer Looks like the work of a Master Evidence indicates that's it's stature Merciless like a terrorist hard to capture The flow, changes like a chameleon Plays like a friend and stabs you like a dagger This technique attacks the immune system Disguised like a lie paralyzing the victim You scream as it enters your bloodstream Erupts your brain from the pain these thoughts contain Moving on a nigga with the speed of a centipede and injure - ANY MOTHERFUCKING CONTENDER
Me: Hey, Soulja Boy fan, you want to hear some REAL rap and hip-hop music? Check out "Glaciers Of Ice" by Raekwon, the lyrical assassin from Wu-Tang Clan. This shit is bangin'!
Soulja Boy fan: "Ay, yo, I be up in dis here ho, watch my booty get swag and watch me roll, watch me crank to my soulja boy mp3 and supaman dat ho....bounce bounce bling bling booty booty yeauh!"
That is the reality with rap and hip-hop music today. :-(
I gotta chirp up here. I loved hearing this tune on the radio back in the day, but never knew who sang it. Recently, I looked it up from what lyrics I could remember and Voilia! The funniest thing is that I did a movie where I played opposite Raekwon in a number of scenes a few years ago. He was great to work with, and is a very laid-back and funny cat. But I am bummed that I only realized that "Glaciers" was his until now. I would have loved to have thrown him some props his way.
This beat is mesmerizing! I used to listen to this shit before my P.T. test in the Army when I had to do my 2 mile run all the time! It got me in a zone!
no disrespect to anyone on this track but come on guy masta killa had tha best verse on here dont cheat em homie listen closely to his verse theres some very deep stuff crammed in there
maaaaan a LOT of people sleep on masta killa but i dont think ive EVER heard a verse that hes come weak on...EVER! like fahreal....WUTANG CLASSIC! WUTANG IS HIP HOP!
Before RZA no music videos had much going for them to me. Then RZA changed Hip-hop music videos for the better, then all music videos for the better. When people forget that, they remember their dicks.
