@ifba100 They are sold exclusively by Stampin up or you can find them on Ebay. They are not available in retail stores. Other brands have similar shapes but they won't fit the stamped image that well. Good alterntives is to use spellbinder nestabilities if you have cuttlebug or other die cutting machines, but it's a bit more time consuming.

It just adds another element of decoration - it looks really pretty!

Piercing the scallop just gives it some definition. There's not really a point to it just makes it look nicer. You can also add dots around the scallops with your white gel pen or any color pen. HTH. :)

To make smaller holes I use a really large needle and add some ribbon on the top. I found them at our local craft store, either Joanns or Hobby Lobby.
