indoor ranges are nice, no crappy weather, just make sure your hearing protection is above 30 decibels. I like them because you can set the target to real world distances. Not just 25 or 50 yards.

As someone below said, it's purpose is to protect hunters from big, dangerous animals, ie bears, cape buffalo, lions, etc etc. If you're caught off guard by a charging bear, buffalo - whatever - its much easier to pull this and quickly aim than it is to try and use your rifle.

Its actually not that bad , this one in particular doesnt have the recoil compensator on the muzzle so the felt recoil is probably harder . Check my page for my 500 S&W video to see the difference between mine and his .

Yes the caliber is the diameter of the bullet. And no, the .50bmg round and the 500 S&W pistol round are the same diameter.  The cartridges are different, as well as the bullet length, but the diameter is the same.

Does the longer barrel help control the recoil vs. the snubs, or are they identical ? I realize the accuracy will be greatly boosted by the longer barrel, i'm just curious about recoil... watching videos it almost looks like the longer barrel is a bit more controllable..

The longer barrel is heavier, which means more mass/inertia. In other words, it doesn't kick as much as a lighter, short barreled gun. Lighter guns always kick harder than heavy guns of the same caliber.
