how about just leaving it as farmland? You couldn't pay me to live there, the way the little steel houses are right on top of one another, then again, they're supposed to be appealing to people who are used to living like that.

Most communities don't have an active land conservancy (land trust) and most land trusts lack funds to purchase land. Conservation developments like Tryon Farm preserve the majority of the land while allowing the landowner full equity. A win - win for working farmland, wildlife, natural areas and clean water. A MUCH better option than conventional subdivision.
I wish more developers designed with nature, we'd save more land, ecosystems.
