  • u r gonna spoil tht non stiick pan with a metal spatula u knw :P

  • @xxllvideokingllxx

    it's cast iron!

  • simpaly GODSMACK

  • nice! so each time dosa is poured on the pan, you use the same cut onion to season it? I took 3 cups rice and 1.5 cups urad dal and fermented to make the dosa batter. it fermented really well. But, iron skillet gave 2 dosa's fine and after that dosa's started sticking to the skillet itself! :(

will try your onion tip.. plz advice if u know more about it.. thank you!

  • @vj0509 yes, after each dosa, i put a little oil on the skillet and season it with the same cut onion.

    hope that helps!

  • lolllll @phantomact!!

  • I am betting that you are a vegetarian :)

  • Good tip with the onion use to season the griddle ..

Generally the trick is to use a well seasoned very hot griddle & it will be non stick..

  • WOW.. I'm an Indian and I cannot make such nice dosa at all. It's great..

  • @gauravanamika

    thanks!!

  • Yes! Finally, somebody actually demonstrating pulling a dosa off an iron pan and talking about it in English too. I don't know how many dosa videos I've sat through with the cook using a non-stick pan, usually aluminum. There have been some really authentic videos, some shot in India, I'm sure where the skillet is iron or steel or even an open griddle. None of it non-stick. I'm ready to try the onion trick.

    Thanks!

  • @pkskyutube

i hope it works for ya.

  • @pkskyutube the reason why dosa batter sticks to pan is as follows: Ans. Rice/ urid dhal combination is wrong. dosa batter consist of rice and urid dhal. try putting 65% rice to 35% urid dhal. sock it over night then blend it and keep it over night again . once it is risen,/ frothy add salt and pour it on a VERY HOT/slightly oiled pan. The dosa would simply lift up with a spatula. You can buy ready made Dosa batter from south indian grocery stores. You do not have to use the Onion trick.

  • I am soo excited to try the onion tip.. I really hope I can make them just as good as yours looked :)

  • great music .. great food

  • The onion idea is neat, but why did the music have to be so loud?! Plus, that singing....bleh.

  • wow excellent!!! i have eaten in indian restaurants this dish and also at my indian frnd's place. she makes it good but the way u smeared with onion and spread it so well-even she didnt do it that good. in fact she is the one who told me to watch this vid since i am trying to learn!

  • i learned frm this video-bcz i learned abt the onion tip and also how to spread. good video!!!

  • You can get ready made batter from Gits. They are pretty good.

  • you have done a wonderful dosa, being an american you are very good, i have to learn from you... great!

  • good job!!!

  • thank u this is just what i needed too see, it was sticking to the pan each time and i didnt know what i was doing wrong!!!

  • Wow... an American who makes a perfect dosa....very good. I'll try the onion method on my next try. Good Job

  • i am south indian and eat dosa regularly but dont know how to make batter. This tip shoould be included. any way well done and thanks

  • I liked the onion tip and shall try that. There are excellent recipes online for dosa. I recently tried a fermented one and it was the best I have tried. Definitely worth waiting for the mixture to ferment overnight.

  • I can't make Masala dosas... But I miss them a lot.. So I am eating pizzas, while watching youtube videos of Masala Dosas... I know... Its pathetic.. but that is what I have come down to.. :(

  • omg haha nice.

  • wow....my jaw just dropped. not only is there masala dosa which is one of the more glorious foods in the known galaxies, but there is a daniel johnston chutney to go along with it! you are a good human being, im sure of this.

  • Could you please show us details about making the batter, showing measures and consistencies when you're grinding the dal/rice mixture, what it looks like when it's fermented, and how much it should be diluted? I'm having the hardest time with this!

  • how u made the batter :)) where is masala:)).. .. but one thing was interesting the use of onion ill try next time
