Might be helpful to know that "Funny" comedy would simply be one genre of comedy. The defining element of comedy is satire, it needn't be humorous...although it often resorts to humor to keep the tone light.
Sort of like how poems don't have to rhyme to be poetry, rhyming is just a type of poetic technique.
@THEICETRUCKKILLA Are you fucking stupid? that is what comedians do, it started out with the court Jester back in the middle ages who didn't tell jokes to popular belief but told the king and his collectives of whats going on, in a story or a way of expression through humor or direct, my 6 year old cousin could have told you that one, you've never heard the saying that the saddesst day on earth when comedians are taking seriously and our elected officials have become a joke
Let me ask you something? If a guy works all day and he has a bad day and he buys a ticket to see a comedian to make him feel better, and that comedeian doesnt make him laugh but instead rants on about the problems plaguing society has that comedian done his job? No! If he wants to rant he should have a talk show. But the job of the comedian is to entertain, not inform. Even if jesters used to inform then times have changed. Comedians dont do that anymore! Cunt!
@THEICETRUCKKILLA Cute, but you ask most comedians what their jokes are and its about criticizing society and most of them try to inform the people, like John Stewart, or back in the day Bill Hicks, look buying a ticket to a comedy show will with out knowing what comedian is gonna perform would be a waste anyways, its like going into a blind show, either you will be pleased or disappointed, ]that argument was invalid, plus name an educated comedian that doesn't inform.
@THEICETRUCKKILLA oh and plus I am an ex-performer myself and can tell you the mind set of the audience and the energy, its much more complicated and plus most comedians who are highly educated and use it in their humor, do what? inform, only dumb ass people who like to be dumbed down would go to see idk that fat Mexican something Inglacias, rather than going to go see Bill Mahr or some one, plus i am what I eat and i gootaa say I haven't heard cunt like that since grade school
OMG JACKASS! IM TALIKG ABOUT COMEDY NOT philosophy. FUCK INORMING. THE JOB OF THE COMEDIAN IS TO MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH. THATS WHY THIS CLIP ISNT FUNNY AND YOURE AN EX PERFORMER AND NOT A CURRENT PERFORMER. YOU PROBABLY GOT BOOED OFF STAGE FOR TRYING TO TALK ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING OR SOME SHIT AND NEVER SAID A SINGLE FUCKING JOKE. GOD DAMN LOSER.
@THEICETRUCKKILLA Comedy and philosohpy go hand in hand..damn your stupid. Like its kinda sad to see you pretty much blabber like a ten year old bitch, Im a bastard who only says facts, and thats why Im a bastard because Im right, stop being a sheep and fucking think for your god damn self, oh and I was never booed, in fact most of the time the I've always gottn asked to do an encore . but then again I only studied theatre and on stage performing for almost 10 years now
@THEICETRUCKKILLA I guess bein a performer and knowing my crowd I'd say your life is sad, you as a person are the reason for human degression and from the way you type, your words and choice of caps, translates to some one who wuld go to a show because he/she is too slow to think and have an inticed thought, Im guessing you like Larry the Cable guy because you are a fucking moron and don't know that comedy is the most intricate and difficult thing a person can perform, prick :)
I feel like I keep saying the same thing over and over without you even trying to understand my side! Its like talking to a dumbass Christian or theist of some kind! Which im sure you are! Probably Catholic. I usually dont back dont from assclowns like you but this argument reminds me of the special olympics, even if you win youre still retarded! So i'll be the bigger man and let you win this one and let you continue to live your super retarded life! Fucking Republican Faggot!
@THEICETRUCKKILLA lol ex-catholic, I was a practicing Satanist for a good minute. lol Im a liberal and i hate republicans very much, and it was great competing with a lower "retard" in this special olympics, how does it feel to get silver in that? and watch get gold haha, I was just being a dick, I love argue and when I saw that post I felt a bit attacked because I know what a performer feels on the inside, especially a smart one.
@THEICETRUCKKILLA there are no rules that a comedian has to be funny all the time. you said it there- he is a comedian. the man is considered one of the greatest comedians of all time, the sort of guy who people like richard pryor and the current greats like louis ck look up to in admiration. i dont find this bit funny either, but when you are a person with an intelligent mind you really lose any sense of maturity when you have to moan that something you dont understand isnt funny
he is talking about the irish are the most oppressed because they learned how to read earlier and got into government jobs and education. clearly everyone hates government therefore irish people are more oppressed because a lot of irish are in government jobs.
@thebearpeople I believe you... I'm of Irish descent (uh, and gay) but for some reason when it comes to comedy that is (not PC, certainly; but) at heart not bigoted because the comedian is holding up a mirror to society rather than defaming minorities with the aim of hurting them, I lay aside my defensiveness. Anyway, I wish you a good day, truly.
You know who is the exact opposite of Lenny Bruce? Dane Cook. A million facebook fans. He appeals to the general population. That is not a virtue to appeal to the moronic masses.
With regard to the supposed unintelligability of the clip,I think part of the problem is due to the outdated 'hip' lingo he uses.Conversley think how unfathomable much of odays humour would be if it were transported back to Bruce's time.I guess you had to be there.I'm pretty sure he wasn't hounded and persecuted in his day for the crime of being 'unfunny'.
They broke Lenny Bruce down so as people wouldn't be able to understand his message. They didn't like how he thought; he was a free thinker, but they pressed him into a world of limitations where he was certain to wither. They took Lenny Bruce's work away from him. They stripped his talent because they did not understand him. He is a martyr. Ignoring him is ignorant.
First off, this is from a different time, practically ancient, culturally speaking -- decades before political correctness. Nobody was doing what he was doing -- free-associating about the deepest recesses of his (and our collective) psyche. Nothing was sacred, which is normal today, but not then. Whether you agree or disagree with his words, he broke down barriers. And he paid the price.
"The Great Lenny Bruce!" The adoration poured out for this clown is embarrassing. Bruce is just the first publicly visible in a long line of jews who have their neurosis framed up as "comedy". The only thing intelligible in the above clip was the occasional anti-gentile slur.
Where did I say I couldn't understand it? Even if that had been the case it still doesn't invalidate criticism. A stage performer who mumbles, slurs, and doesn't enunciate isn't doing his job.
@gentilegrief You said, "The only thing intelligible in the above clip was the occasional anti-gentile slur." So I pose the question to you again: if you didn't get what he was saying, why are you shooting off your mouth about it? (I mean, I know why-- I'm just being rhetorical, you understand).
Forgive me my excess then. Personally, it was understandable. To a general audience, though, this lingo is a load of nonsense. Which is my point. Bruce is a "pioneer, visionary, etc. blah, blah, blah" to only a very narrow and select population; the sort that gets off on this rhetoric. Also the sort that imagines itself entitled to decide "greatness".
Let's see: George Carlin was born in 1937 and Bill Hicks was born in 1961, but George Carlin "copied" Bill Hicks. Opinions are one thing, but stupidity is another. Just another YouTube idiotic 20 something dropout that has no concept of history or comedy. Apparently, he was raised on Dane Cook.
@bbv001 check out his other material. His comedy at the time was revolutionary and mind bending. He wasn't just a comedian, he was a poet, philosopher, and social activist in ways. People like him are the reason why you can speak your mind about anything you want without being stigmatized.
do people think this is funny? I can appreciate the fact that he influenced a lot of great comedians cmon, I don't want to feel like i'm being lectured at...
Lenny's legacy is freedom of speech. Was he fall down laughing funny? No.Was he a brilliant man in his own right? Yes. Lenny's numerous arrests for obscenity opened the doors for every comic from Carlin, Pryor, to Chris Rock. The freedom they have to say pretty much what they want on T.V. today? Lenny, and the first amendment.Lenny's true downfall was heroin, and that's what killed him. Or as he liked to say, "I don't have a drug problem, i have a police problem."....."Man"
His humor was pointless. It was neither clever, thought provoking, or even humorous.
In fact, it's not even coherent.
If you can get past the cult of personality that has inexplicably grown up around this guy and really listen, what you hear is a fairly typical addict -- a screwed up, self righteous, finger pointing, sociopath.
@Sigolet --Well,..WHY do a film about his life? And WHY?Would Dustin Hoffman play the part,if "anything" that you said was true? Why,Mr.MOUTH ? The "cult" as you call it has what you obviously lack,...intelligence.He spoke about society, history, race, sex, phycho's,all in one sentence.Made observations, and said things out loud,"Nigger" he yelled to a black crowd, then explained the FIRST SLAVES to hit Cuba, were called black, nigra,in Cuban, the name came with them,he explaines it is HOW it is said.
@Sigolet That's a fair assessment and not far from the truth. Lenny was brilliant, but not fall down funny. His true legacy is freedom of speech. He was all about the first amendment. He challenged obscenity laws and lost. In doing that, he opened doors for people like George Carlin, Richard Pryor and Chris Rock. Without Lenny, comics, or even T.V. shows would be censored. That's why Lenny Bruce will always be relevant, and why people still talk about him today.
Lenny was drug-induced funny, his mind was fucking RACING at 300 mph, he was carrying on conversations with 10 people in his head, and he was performing every part, right. Hell, yes, he was funny, but intellectually funny, not DUMBASS funny like Chris Rock or the other toilet humor comedians.
@ZeskoWhirligan -What you say is NOT so.His mind, his intelligence saw and said same without the drugs.I read two books about him.One was by his stripper/wife/girlfriend,And the other??? maybe him? But,the sh!t he said was and is priceless, and in the 50's?? WOW.The USA,has always kept it's populus ,the common man, uneducated, well fed,and entertained with dumbed down Media, controled Media.Brains were needed to laugh at his stuff. In Fla. he dressed up like a priest, and got caught, and busted.Funny.!
Yeah recently been reading George Carlin's book, Last Words. If you consider Carlin above Lenny Bruce you are a dumbass, this man is what inspired the great Carlin.
Your stupid, right? There would be no Geo. Carlin, no Dane Cook, no Bob Saget,
no anybody if Lenny Bruce hadn't broken the ice. He was arrested in San Francisco for say co**sucker, you dimwit. Check out :"Prison Break" you may laugh but you're probably mentally challenged. Why is he funny, because he broke all barriers with comedy and open doors for everyone. Hope you're not a
this is different its just like reading a paper that dosent get to the point right away but if you listen and feel the color of what he says you get it kinda lol
For those who don't get him is like discarding high theoretical. If you do not take the time to study the context of the subject then you should abstain from theory. I fully understand how it seems like pseudo-intellect but if you really take in everything from his time, easily a few hundred hours of studying required, it is very brilliant. Not only is it extremely funny but his act at the time was more offensive then anything popular society has seen (without trying to be controversial)
he's saying the irish were the most despised ethnic group, but you wouldn't know it because they held positions of power because of their oratory skills. it's out of context and out of our era in time. it would have made more sense back then.
To those who don't get this short bit of Lenny Bruce. Bruce didn't work like most modern comedians who do short form. Or even the comedians like Bob Hope of his day who did short form. Bruce is a long form comic and a thinker - too long form for one short clip on youtube. It takes a while to click in to his rhythm , and at the begin, you're just thinking so hard about what he's saying. Once he's got you, about fifteen minutes in or twenty minutes in, Bang! A pop goes off in your head .
@oldstock1607 I want to commend you for keeping old school anti-semitism alive on the Internet. "The Jews Control Hollywood"... Classic. Loving it, dude, loving it. I mean, everyone knows anti-Semites invented the Internet in order to spread the word about the international Jewish cabal, but lately I just can't find ignorance like this anywhere. Seriously, nothing new has been posted to jewwatch.org in 14 months (I get the RSS feed). I think the guy running it finally died. Bet the Jews ki
@twinsrule1987 Lol, it's funny that when someone ever mentions a fact about Jews (not even stating anything obviously bad or negative), someone always calls it anti-Semitism. Old line, weak defense and doesn't work anymore...
@OceanderTethyseus he's an entertainer, speaker, comedian. Demetri Martin is no less a comedian than a speaker and "thought provoker", too. He is a modern philosopher, if you'd like to call it that. Most people just like the label "Comedian" like Jester, but they're not just that, they're all in one usually. They do different acts. Here he's just playing with the truth of the times. People were racist against the Irish, so he's talking about it in an entertaining way to get people thinking.
@OceanderTethyseus Officially he's as funny as fuck. He got into trouble with the law and now he's dead. How could he not be funnier and smarter and more observant and more honest than anybody who doesn't get into trouble, still lives, performs and pays his taxes?
If you get out of the Navy by pretending to be queer, marry a stripper, solicit money by pretending to be a missionary and get arrested for swearing shallow pretentious people think you must be a fucking comedy god.
there is a lot to be said for artists that break new ground, change social norms, or advance public dialog.
i think this bit must be incredibly funny to the people who were alive then and who could comprehend his demeanor and the subject matter of his bit.
as for the wild aspects of his life you eluded to, they don't affect my estimation of his stature as an artist, nor do they appeal to me as being particularly comical in and of themselves.
@OceanderTethyseus The question was did you laugh? Comedians are funny. Being radical and "dangerous" observers of the scene is no part of their job description. I am all for breaking new ground but you must never forget the first rule of comedy. There are a million new ways to baffle an audience more than amuse and entertain them. Being an icon and a self-styled martyr is just one of them.
If this man truly did have talent, as everyone insists, it truly escapes me. Indeed, I'm quite certain that his enduring fame has more to do with his Jewishness (which he seems to have dwelled upon incessantly in his overrated acts) than from any true merits of his "comedy." If anyone truly doubts that Jews control Hollywood, ask yourselves, "why are there mainstream movies about Andy Kauffman (also of dubious comedic talent) and Lenny Bruce, yet none about, say, George Washington?
@ballybrackroburgaff Read my comment above. He is only "the third best comedian of all time" because the list was not made with any objectivity. If it were, Bruce wouldn't even be on that list, let alone at number 3.
@oldstock1607 There are all sorts of those compilation lists in existence anyway, so don't fret about it. Just as George Carlin struggles to make it on top 100 lists in the UK while Bill Hicks often enjoys top 3 finishes, in US lists rarely ever are greats such as Tommy Cooper, Stewart Lee or Richard Herring included, the latter two of whom have advanced comedy far beyond what the likes of Demerti Martin have managed.
If only Aristotle's Comedics had survived, we'd know what to look for.
@owenhunt Such lists are irrelevant anyway aren't they? Since, like art (or as some would say, comedy IS art) the talent of any performer is completely a matter of subjectivity.
@oldstock1607 Considering they are often compiled without the help of actual comedians, their legitimacy is questionable from the word go. And of course, art is subjective - even in meaning. I agree with you, but you appear to have reversed your opinion from a previous post. Explanation??
@owenhunt I didn't reverse my opinion, I just think that these lists are completely subjective. For example, if I were to make a list of the top 100 comedians of all time based on my opinion alone, Bruce would certainly not be on it.
@oldstock1607 No, you definitely reversed your opinion. You originally touted that any 'Top 100 Comedians' list compiled with objectivity would not include Lenny Bruce. You now maintain your list, admittedly a subjective one, would exclude Lenny Bruce - thereby an "objective list" couldn't exist by your ruling. I'm sure it was a simple mistake on your part. No worries.
@owenhunt My only point is that I don't think (my opinion) that he was that talented, and that he certainly does not deserve to be ranked among the top 3 comedians of all time.
Probably the most overrated stand-up ever. His routine was essentially borrowed, gauche and weak. He discovered every mediocrities gold-mine; 'controversy'. And milked it for all it was worked. He also died early and while he was still working -another great career move for posterity!
@johnsammyanfal His grteatest career move was being born Jewish. I assure you, If Lenny Bruce had been born a Gentile, you would never have even heard of him.
@Victorgoleche75 Yeah, of course all the people you list before Cook are more important to the history of comedy, but I think hating on Cook has just become a popular thing to do. A lot of people used to like the guy, now suddenly everyone hates him. Well, some of those people used to be fans, admit it or not. Me? I didn't really know his stuff when he was popular, but I've seen Vicious Circle...and it's friggin' funny. I don't care what the current way you're supposed to feel is. He's funny.
@Victorgoleche75 George fucking Carlin? The cunt was telling silly little knock knock jokes until he saw Bill Hicks - then he started wearing all black outfits, grew his little "anti establishmentarianist" beard and copied nearly everything Hicks ever did...Hicks was an original - he was a fucking genius - and Lenny Bruce cant hold a light to him either....George motherfucking Carlin....grrrrrrrrrrrrr
@tiarnan76 I actually prefer the old George Carlin over the older version, in that, instead of being a grouchy old man, he would often times point out the little idiosyncrasies of the English language and that to me is hilarious. Also his timing was perfect.
@idiotunderthetable lol, George Carlin is one person, he didn't change because he became older. What I believe you meant is that you like his early material, opposed to his later stuff. I however disagree, he always played on language and was pretty grouchy when he was young.
I find Lenny Bruce to be more interesting than funny. I agree with him when he said he was not a comedian, just Lenny. He has a story to tell and he tells it in a rather engaging manner, but he's not laugh out loud funny to me. I like how he curses though, unlike todays comedians like that wretch Bill Maher who try to be like Lenny but intentionally offend, Lenny curses so passively that I barely notice it. He's like some guy in a bar just casually chatting it up after a couple drinks.
In general, I think people are far too sensitive in today's society. People are easily offended and insulted. I don't find this guy that funny either, but you have to put him in the proper historical context. I don't think the Beatles sound that great compared to A LOT of bands between the 70s up to the present day, but listen to the "popular music" that people were listening to before they came across the pond. The Beatles are MUCH better. Apparently, BRUCE was revolutionary and had shock value
Where does the comedy part come in? I understand Lenny expanded the comedians palette, but none of his stuff is funny, at all. He had balls, certainly, but I just don't see the comedic value. A lot of people can compare and contrast different aspects of society, but it takes more ability to make it funny - a la George Carlin.
@mgkibbles I guess you need punchlines delivered to you on a silver platter, George was much more direct, to cater for dumber people such as yourself. I personally think George was overrated after the 70s-80s.
@AttackMyAss What punchlines? There is nothing of humor in there. The entire bit is just comparing and contrasting racial and culture tendencies. Its not humor, its observation. Also, Carlin got better after the 70-80's. He became more educated, and started hitting on darker subjects, and guess what? He found a way to make the dark material funny, unlike Bruce.
@mgkibbles George Carlin was terrible when he decided to imitate Bill Hicks by being all dark and brooding. The only thing I give Carlin credit for are the seven words he got so much shit for, and overcame. Lenny says a few things in this video that would make one chiuckle, but only someone who understands his jive, I'm sorry you don't. Go back to thinking George Carlin wasn't the most overrated comedian in recent times.
@mgkibbles its funny if you understand the content of what he is trying to say. Its not funny like when you hear a crazy joke, but it still makes people laugh because of the irony, and hypocrisy of our society.
Prejudice comes in many forms . Schools judge childrens' inteligence with standardised tests , if you are dumb at passing tests teachers beleive that you are dumb at everything else ............. the school I went to did not notice that I have a good imagination ........... please view my Youtube channel .
I'm Irish, he makes a very valid point about prejudice and defends the Irish if you're actually listening to what he is saying. One of the most important intellectuals of the 20th Century

The Jew would rape her and then kill her.

You know who is the exact opposite of Lenny Bruce? Dane Cook. A million facebook fans. He appeals to the general population. That is not a virtue to appeal to the moronic masses.

Poor clip of a legendary stand-up. Listen to the cadence, but don't try too hard to hear the words.
JabbaTheSlut220175 3 months ago
With regard to the supposed unintelligability of the clip,I think part of the problem is due to the outdated 'hip' lingo he uses.Conversley think how unfathomable much of odays humour would be if it were transported back to Bruce's time.I guess you had to be there.I'm pretty sure he wasn't hounded and persecuted in his day for the crime of being 'unfunny'.
seerauberjohnny 3 months ago
They broke Lenny Bruce down so as people wouldn't be able to understand his message. They didn't like how he thought; he was a free thinker, but they pressed him into a world of limitations where he was certain to wither. They took Lenny Bruce's work away from him. They stripped his talent because they did not understand him. He is a martyr. Ignoring him is ignorant.
JMCKMUSIC1 3 months ago
First off, this is from a different time, practically ancient, culturally speaking -- decades before political correctness. Nobody was doing what he was doing -- free-associating about the deepest recesses of his (and our collective) psyche. Nothing was sacred, which is normal today, but not then. Whether you agree or disagree with his words, he broke down barriers. And he paid the price.

"The Great Lenny Bruce!" The adoration poured out for this clown is embarrassing. Bruce is just the first publicly visible in a long line of jews who have their neurosis framed up as "comedy". The only thing intelligible in the above clip was the occasional anti-gentile slur.
gentilegrief 4 months ago
@gentilegrief So if you couldn't understand what he was saying, why are you criticizing it?
Oceanmachine27 4 months ago
@Oceanmachine27
Where did I say I couldn't understand it? Even if that had been the case it still doesn't invalidate criticism. A stage performer who mumbles, slurs, and doesn't enunciate isn't doing his job.
gentilegrief 3 months ago
@gentilegrief You said, "The only thing intelligible in the above clip was the occasional anti-gentile slur." So I pose the question to you again: if you didn't get what he was saying, why are you shooting off your mouth about it? (I mean, I know why-- I'm just being rhetorical, you understand).
Oceanmachine27 3 months ago
@Oceanmachine27

Why,Mr.MOUTH ? billy1212ist 6 months ago

Once he's got you, about fifteen minutes in or twenty minutes in, Bang! i think this bit must be incredibly funny to the people who were alive then and who could comprehend his demeanor and the subject matter of his bit.

@OceanderTethyseus The question was did you laugh? Comedians are funny. Being radical and "dangerous" observers of the scene is no part of their job description. If this man truly did have talent, as everyone insists, it truly escapes me. Indeed, I'm quite certain that his enduring fame has more to do with his Jewishness (which he seems to have dwelled upon incessantly in his overrated acts) than from any true merits of his "comedy." If anyone truly doubts that Jews control Hollywood, ask yourselves, "why are there mainstream movies about Andy Kauffman (also of dubious comedic talent) and Lenny Bruce, yet none about, say, George Washington?
oldstock1607 10 months ago
how this man is 3rd best comedian of all time i do not know
ballybrackroburgaff 10 months ago
@ballybrackroburgaff Read my comment above. He is only "the third best comedian of all time" because the list was not made with any objectivity. If it were, Bruce wouldn't even be on that list, let alone at number 3.
oldstock1607 10 months ago
@oldstock1607 There are all sorts of those compilation lists in existence anyway, so don't fret about it. Just as George Carlin struggles to make it on top 100 lists in the UK while Bill Hicks often enjoys top 3 finishes, in US lists rarely ever are greats such as Tommy Cooper, Stewart Lee or Richard Herring included, the latter two of whom have advanced comedy far beyond what the likes of Demerti Martin have managed.
If only Aristotle's Comedics had survived, we'd know what to look for.
owenhunt 9 months ago
@owenhunt Such lists are irrelevant anyway aren't they? Since, like art (or as some would say, comedy IS art) the talent of any performer is completely a matter of subjectivity.
oldstock1607 9 months ago
@oldstock1607 Considering they are often compiled without the help of actual comedians, their legitimacy is questionable from the word go. And of course, art is subjective - even in meaning. I agree with you, but you appear to have reversed your opinion from a previous post. Explanation??
owenhunt 9 months ago
@owenhunt I didn't reverse my opinion, I just think that these lists are completely subjective. For example, if I were to make a list of the top 100 comedians of all time based on my opinion alone, Bruce would certainly not be on it.
oldstock1607 9 months ago
@oldstock1607 No, you definitely reversed your opinion. You originally touted that any 'Top 100 Comedians' list compiled with objectivity would not include Lenny Bruce. You now maintain your list, admittedly a subjective one, would exclude Lenny Bruce - thereby an "objective list" couldn't exist by your ruling. I'm sure it was a simple mistake on your part. No worries.
owenhunt 9 months ago
@owenhunt My only point is that I don't think (my opinion) that he was that talented, and that he certainly does not deserve to be ranked among the top 3 comedians of all time.
oldstock1607 9 months ago

I find Lenny Bruce to be more interesting than funny. I agree with him when he said he was not a comedian, just Lenny. He has a story to tell and he tells it in a rather engaging manner, but he's not laugh out loud funny to me. I like how he curses though, unlike todays comedians like that wretch Bill Maher who try to be like Lenny but intentionally offend, Lenny curses so passively that I barely notice it. He's like some guy in a bar just casually chatting it up after a couple drinks.
Daemonocracy 11 months ago
In general, I think people are far too sensitive in today's society. People are easily offended and insulted. I don't find this guy that funny either, but you have to put him in the proper historical context. I don't think the Beatles sound that great compared to A LOT of bands between the 70s up to the present day, but listen to the "popular music" that people were listening to before they came across the pond. The Beatles are MUCH better. Apparently, BRUCE was revolutionary and had shock value
kinkeezie 11 months ago
Maybe if you'd never heard someone say 'shit' on stage, this guy would be funny, but by today's standards, this is one boring comedian.
jbrisby 11 months ago
Where does the comedy part come in? I understand Lenny expanded the comedians palette, but none of his stuff is funny, at all. He had balls, certainly, but I just don't see the comedic value. A lot of people can compare and contrast different aspects of society, but it takes more ability to make it funny - a la George Carlin.
mgkibbles 1 year ago
@mgkibbles I guess you need punchlines delivered to you on a silver platter, George was much more direct, to cater for dumber people such as yourself. I personally think George was overrated after the 70s-80s.
AttackMyAss 1 year ago
@AttackMyAss What punchlines? There is nothing of humor in there. The entire bit is just comparing and contrasting racial and culture tendencies. Its not humor, its observation. Also, Carlin got better after the 70-80's. He became more educated, and started hitting on darker subjects, and guess what? He found a way to make the dark material funny, unlike Bruce.
mgkibbles 1 year ago
@mgkibbles George Carlin was terrible when he decided to imitate Bill Hicks by being all dark and brooding. The only thing I give Carlin credit for are the seven words he got so much shit for, and overcame. Lenny says a few things in this video that would make one chiuckle, but only someone who understands his jive, I'm sorry you don't. Go back to thinking George Carlin wasn't the most overrated comedian in recent times.
AttackMyAss 1 year ago
@mgkibbles its funny if you understand the content of what he is trying to say. Its not funny like when you hear a crazy joke, but it still makes people laugh because of the irony, and hypocrisy of our society.
