  • This remind me of Berserk

  • Can someone recommend other (underrated) movies of similar nature?

  • @7thBOSS 12 Monkeys. Way underrated.

  • @7thBOSS The matrix. Your welcome

  • Director's cut DVD is the way to go. They get rid of the whole intro monologue that gives away the whole movie and wasn't supposed to be there in the first place.

  • @Drew776655 That's what I'm about to watch.. Good to know!

  • @SilentEcho8 Yeah buddy, you'll fall in love with it.

  • its so 90s i love it

  • Now THAT is how you make a freakin trailer!!!

  • the matrix is basically a shoddy remake of this movie

  • @engliscwarrior Yes it is

  • Best scifi movie since Blade Runner. In fact it hasn't been topped yet. Whatever else Alex Proyas does, he will be remembered as a genius for this movie alone. Also, in such a claustrophobic, dark, paranoid, angry (all male-mindset) movie, it's impressive that he got the love-interest element right (whereas other similar films fail).

  • Wow no wonder y this movie is so underrated. The trailer sucked buns. Such a fantastic movie with a shitty trailer can do real damage. No matter how brilliant the movie is.

  • @DISACC Really????

No offense, but I think the trailer is awesome... To each their own...

LOVE the music, and the scense. I remember when I first saw this trailer (I believe it was when I watched Highlander 2 in the theatres, or perhaps Mortal Combat???) I was hooked, and couldn't wait to see it.

Movie was great, trailer was awesome (great music too, imho).

Oh well, to each their own.

  • The trailer is so good because the images that it presents are at once evocative, enthralling, and devoid of meaning. You have no idea what's going on in any given shot, but at the same time each shot instills a particular emotional response.

    That's real filmcraft right there.

  • it was a Time warp,

    again.

  • Such an underrated movie. Actually so fucking wonderful.

  • This fucking trailer sucks, i hope you get aids.

  • is this any good? is this horror, superhero, or nonsense type of movie?

  • @Fyeagass16 Think along the lines of Matrix, only MUCH better. And I did love the first Matrix, it's one of my favorite movies ever.

  • TATSUOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

  • this movie was perfect no bullshit

  • Agreed!! One of the best movie trailers and one of the best movies ever!!

  • Not only does The Matrix owe so much to Dark City in terms of concept, style and storyline, but interestingly it uses the same set pieces. The stairway Murdoch is chased by Baumstead on is the same staircase Neo sees the de'ja vu cat. The phone box at the start is also the phonebox Trinity escapes from the truck.

I like the first Matrix but I know which movie I prefer....

  • @E101ification Yes, too bad this movie wasn't childish enough to outrank "Matrix" in popularity.

  • Shell beach... I know how to get there, It's right on.... let's just alert Agent Smith, perhaps he knows....

  • Another great metaphoric movie based on true facts of the reality in many ways, just like the Matrix.

  • This movie looks awesome, about to see if I can watch the whole thing on youtube. I recall being intensely interested in it when it first came out but I forgot all about it. Now Luciferion - The Apostate has me looking into it again.

  • @FlyingPuppehPants if you can try and watch the Director's Cut. The theatrical cut is good but the DC is even better.

  • @E101ification Thanks, I'll have to remember that for the next time I watch it, and yeah, it was good. ; )

  • Matrix, Matrix Reloaded e Matrix Revolutions sono stati un plagio dello stesso film...incredibile

  • 60 people dont remember how to get to shell beach

  • I know why it never did that well... the Connelly Curse. Only about 2 of Jennifer Connelly's movies have ever done well, no matter how good the movie or how great the rest of the cast.

  • @erispandora What's wrong with Jennifer Connelly? And why the hell would a movie do badly because of ONE "unlikeable" actor/actress, when we have so many examples of the contrary. (Pirates of the Carribean, X-Men, and any movie with Keanu Reeves spring to mind...)

  • Dark City Act 1: The Matrix

Dark City Act 2: Matrix Reloaded

Dark City Act 3: Matrix Revolutions

Came out a year before the first one... amazing movie

  • @LambdaObjection I thought she acquitted herself rather well in Dark City.

  • the stranger looks like the silicon creature from BLAME

  • best movie trailer? THIS IS BEST MOVIE EVER.

how can this to be almost commercial failure? :(

  • @eriol33 it was made before its time...

  • The moving building effects impacted me a bit.

    Great sci fi movie

  • My only complain with the movie is the editing. With a title like Dark City, you think that it's a movie where you can appreciate a cool dark atmosphere but with a editing so quick (like in this movie), it's almost impossible to do so. During action scenes it's understandable, but in almost every scene there's quick editing....and that really pisses me off >:(

Other than that, great movie but shitty editing.

    Sorry for my shitty english

  • I wish they made the shown eclipse at the end of this trailer a part of the poster/video case marketing. It makes so much sense once you see the movie!

  • One of the best sci fi movies...dont understand

why it bombed in the theaters. Just like the matrix

movies the aliens cant figure how to control human

beings...we all have a choice in life...live it!

  • So my 4 year old son keeps sayin he wants to go to dark city, i have no clue where its at, so if someone can give me a address so i can take him please lol

  • this amazing

  • This is one of the most underrated movies. It's absolutely stunning.

  • Dark City > The Matrix

  • @CoffeeFlavoredMilk Matrix >> Dark City

  • @hwcperfect Dark City >>>> Matrix. Released first, more stylish, more emotional storyline, better acting.

  • @MmeLEnfer Better acting than Keanu Reeves?! Holy shit...!

  • @E101ification Hahaha.

  • @E101ification Of course, but I meant across the board.

  • Wow.Really loved it.

    Definitely watch.

  • The City of Lost Children

  • @bbbbbb222222 DummKopf

  • i love how the music builds up

  • Where have I been?!? This movie is amazing! It's a shame that it's so underrated...

  • Watch and learn, jews.

  • This is such a good movie. I've introduced this movie to so many people.

  • and they were in space all along...

  • I liked this movie up until the ending- it all was so rushed. He defeats the strangers in like two minutes.

  • Kind of a sleeper hit but not bad in it's release timeframe. Still added it to my channel. Anything with alt realities or powerful imagery is great. Love sci-fi, fantasy, the works.

  • shell beach,,

anyone of u remember how 2 get there..

  • @manrani90

You take Main Street ...or is it the Crosstown? I don't remember ...

  • Ur kiddin? Me and the Mrs. spent our honeymoon there! All ya gotta do is take Main St. West to... err is it the crosstown? Funny, I can't seem to remember if it's Main St. W. or the crosstown!

  • @manrani90 it's in La Jolla, San Diego...don't ask me how I got there...

  • 58 people need to sleeeeep.

  • Comment removed

  • @Hammerzeiterrr

    you are shit

  • The matrix is fucking GREAT also -___-

  • Dark City sounds a lot better than The Matrix. Seriously everyone, what a stupid title The Matrix was when it came out and when I saw titles like The Matrix Reloaded or The Matrix Revolutions, good God..

Cliches in the sequel titles on The Matrix sequels = incomprehensive title name.. Just what is the phrase, "The Matrix Revolutions" supposed to mean? if you had no idea about the movie or saw no image related to movie, the momeny you finished reading the title you'd think it's a fucking joke..

  • @toxicitzi You're a fucking joke, actually watch movies before you talk. I've seen dark city, read the comic book premise from which the director took inspiration from, and watched everything about the matrix. In the end, I enjoyed The Matrix more.

  • @Tekkenman101 Fine, but you know what? if Keanu Reeves wasn't the main character, I could've enjoyed it more.

I've watched both and all I have to say is, we don't like the same things, so don't tell me what to like

  • Is it just me or does the directors cut give away too much of the ending? when i first saw it in theaters, i was slapped in the face when then showed the world. when i saw the directors cut, it just seemed all too obvious,.. maybe i'm coming at it too biased?

  • @CSLFiero Actually the theatrical cut gave away too much cause sutherlands character narrated in the begining and quickly gave way everything about the villains about who and what they were and what they did. the DC version made it look more of a mystery and revealed everything near the middle end had we all not seen the original version we might have been shocked. So with out sounding like a complete jerk. Yes you kind of are being a bit too biased. I personally think the DC is better.

  • @greyfox129

oh no offense taken. I physically can't get slapped by the movie anymore, i know how it ends. That's the whole reason i can't appreciate the inherent shock value it has. i couldn't find anything better to blame for it. =(

  • @CSLFiero I actually see the DC version more than the TC I just hate that some people act like The matrix started the whole style that this movie obviously did first.

  • @greyfox129

That and it's a better movie. Too many people make some stupid biblical connection to Matrix. Then after the first movie, it got all up it's own ass. I don't like altered reality movies too much, they either hold your hand too much or are intentionally hard to follow. Can't anyone just have a cool world without having to explain it as some sort of dream or parallel universe? sheesh!

  • @CSLFiero And that's why i love dark city it shows that it's created by the strangers but they don't explain how it works or how there tuning makes the city reform itself. The matrix for some reason did not want to leave certain things a mystery and they contradicted themselves many times over. And the ending...well i don't think i have to go into details on how bad that was. in some ways i'm glad this movie was not that successful cause then the studio would force them to make stupid sequels.

  • @greyfox129 You're an idiot. You're inability to comprehend the ending just shows how dumb down film viewers are. Have you taken a college level philosophy course? Probably not because you wouldn't be contemplating the significance of the resolution. How about you use your head and do some research. The ending is actually very simple once you piece together the underlying aspects of the second and third film. Which actually were supposed to be ONE film. Also the Animatrix is a part of the story.

  • @Tekkenman101 Dude this is youtube not some film class just cause i give an opinion i don't ever expect that everyone would agree. And i have seen the matrix movies and i don't care about the significance of it cause in the end many and i mean many people did not like the 2 sequels. So stop being a fanboy and hounding everyone that doesn't appreciate your favorite movies or your views. You're the idiot that has nothing better to do so you pick fights here by calling people names.

  • I like that they dont show any talking, just pictures. THAT is one good trailer.

  • I saw this too in theaters when I saw Proyas's name. I thought The Crow was really good on the big screen, one of my best movie experiences ever (great crowd that night), and I was too young to get into rated R movies, can't beat that feeling. I was blown away by it even with the spoiling line of dialog at the beginning. When the DC came out I had to own it, and it made a very good movie a masterpiece. One of my top 10 favorites of all time.

  • @iknowwhereyoulive006 well said!

  • I have to say I do not understand the love for this film, maybe its because I saw this after the matrix, but to me it was a good concept that was never properly explored in the film....and the dialogue was on par with plan 9! 'You are probably wondering why I keep appearing in your memories, John. It is because I have inserted myself into them'

  • I think pretty much every frame of this film is a work of art. You can pause it at about any moment and see a masterpiece. I believe the concept was implemented very well. I'll have to disagree with you there. To each his/her own though. I liked The Matrix very much too, but consider it an inferior film to this all things considered.

  • @graric i have not seen it in a while but i can sum it up, aliens take humans aboard their spacecraft to experiment on them, they in-plant memory's of difference scenarios to understand the human mind (how we react). one of the Dr's working with the alien is a human, if he does not do what they say he dies, but he makes a plan to inject a cretin human with the gene as the aliens so he can control the ship like they do.

  • @iknowwhereyoulive006 I feel the same about the thematic of the movie and the ending. One of my favourites, I'm glad back in 98 when i saw it for the first time i got a little bit late to the cinema and missed the opening description, because it ruins the mystery and the feel of the movie. That's why i recommend to only see the director's cut

  • This was an excellent trailer. But I hated the ending. It was stupid as hell

  • This is my favorite film of all time! Why can't they make them like this anymore?

  • one of the best sci fi films ever made

  • i miss the time when movies used to be interesting and intelligent.

  • @AbandonedHeart Oh come on! Great, interesting and intelligent films are made all the time, and they made just as many shitty movies back then as they do today. It's just that we tend to only remember the good ones better.

  • @ooaaveehoo True, back then there were also shitty movies, but the ratio of good movies to bad was higher than it is now. Now, we're just trying to make remakes and sequels to old movies to restore some old glory. We've lost creativity in films and are searching for obscure ways to bring attention to directors losing glory. I.E. Cowboys and Aliens.

  • The music is "Sleep Now" from Hughes Hall.

  • I really didnt liked this movie....i dont know why but i almost fell asleep

  • @linkinn18

    It's probably because you're a moron.

  • Wait a sec... the music, isn't it from "Omikron: The Nomad Soul" (video game)?

  • Now THAT's how you do a movie with style!

  • @CineRecon It's a shame that suck atmospheric (?) movie has bad editing :(

  • I've been looking for a while and can't find the name of the theme used in the trailer could somebody please tell me what it is?

  • Did anyone else notice that the last sceen from this movie (the one with the city tumbling into the ocean) looks almost EXACTLY like that sceen from Inception...?

  • Gattaca is good sci fi/drama too.

  • I haven't seen this movie, but it looks like The Matrix + Brazil + 12 Monkeys.

    Awesome-

  • They don't make'em like this nowadays... =(

  • "You can...sleep."

  • don't watch this movie is a fucking shit im not trolling, really is the most stupid movie that i have ever seen, Jennifer connelly's character is the only good thing.

  • @bisys2 please be explicit when you argue by means of so much subjectivity and so few facts.

  • @bodomchrist the movie lacks a good story and the actors are terrible especially the keifer sutherland character

  • @bisys2 your shit

  • @sunsprie suck my dick

  • @bisys2 you sir, have no taste in movies at all

  • @smokehaze187 this movie sucks period

  • @smokehaze187 this person bisys2 is a perfect example why no one should listen to biased jerks like them. They say a movie sucks and yet does not go into details on why he1/she hates it and then tells people to trust them. I speak for every person who has good taste that when we hear some one tell us not to see a movie we need more than half assed reasons and in this case actual details.

  • overrated crap, doesnt deserve to be called mindfuck..some lame ass sci fi crap with boring storyline

  • @Dramzul and let me guess you think transformers is a master peice?

  • @Dramzul wow, you realy dont know nothing about movies ? for you if movie dont have action and sex, movie sucks... only one thing movie must have....story ( good script ).... and this movie got damn good story...

  • Comment removed

  • anybody else here use Letmewatchthis(.)com? make sure you got firewalls but its still pretty good

  • There are movies that one must experience in the theater to feel its full effect. Dark City is an example of such a film. First rate film making. A++++++++++

  • looks like fucking shit.

  • @lolipopo42 Go watch "The Art Of Getting By" you dumb cunt

  • The Matrix + Dark City = Inception.

  • @ThatGuyGus Please don't compare this movie to The Matrix or Inception. Unlike either, Dark City is actually worth watching and not so far up its own ass that I wanna punch the writer and director in the face.

  • @GSkunky Christopher Nolan Actually said that Inception was inspired by the Matrix & Dark City

  • @GSkunky Main idea for " Inception " movie is from this movie ( Dark City )....sooo

  • this is one of the few movies that whenever I think about it, i think of the trailer. when i was younger and this first came out, the preview blew my mind. great movie, great trailer

  • theres a dark city song with the audio of the characterstaliing in it - can anyone help with he name of it??

    many thanx all

  • BTW, Chris Nolan says this film was his inspiration for Inception :)

  • This is a phenomenal movie that puts every single super-hero movie of the last decade to complete shame (along with most other movies).

  • I actually hear that the opening narration spoils the film to hell. Without revealing anything, can anyone who has seen the movie tell me when I should mute it and for how long? Tv tropes recommends that you do that.

  • @philipmarie1854 The theatrical cut has a REALLY GREAT intro scene which was sadly cut out when they removed the opening narration.

The narration only happens over a starry night sky. Mute the scene until the point where it drops down to Kiefer Sutherland and turns his head.

It's not a bad spoiler, just gives a bunch of stuff you figure out before the end of the first half.

It doesn't spoil the big twists at the end... In fact, it has quite big misdirection in the narration (won't say what)

  • @ijwi Ok, thanks alot!

  • These kinds of movies can be the best movie you've ever seen in your life " or at least one of them " or can be the worst movie ever !!

Anyway i like this one very much !

  • fuck can some1 help me??! ive been looking for a movie for ever, its a long time since i saw it but i think its about some rescue team or something going into a city where every1 has dissapeard or fallen asleep, not dissapeard but some shit like fallen asleep but they wake up at times?? i think its a virus or something, and this little kid is like the evil master and almost in the end of the film they stand in a underground tunnel and some1 shoots a serum that the kid was holding and it hits him

  • @DonkymanCominAtYa Try 28 day later and 28 weeks later.

  • @Paavo93 no ! ok sorry but pavo was the only one who survived the bulimian war in 1345 and i intend to believe that god is natures slave. marhuanka

  • @DonkymanCominAtYa The kid's at 28 weeks later, which is a sequel to 28 days later.

  • @Paavo93 no not that one. its like sometimes the infected transform into monsters. one scene i think one of the good guys walks into a room and there is one white bald guy with tattoos on the bed looking dead. the good guy then looks up on the wall and sees heavy metal posters (i think) then all of a sudden he looks at the bed and the guy is gone. then u see him standing in the doorway and the door slams.?? I NEED TO KNOW WHAT MOVIE IT IS! IT WAS SCARY AS HELL WHEN I SAW IT!

  • @DonkymanCominAtYa NOT FALLEN ASLEEP! buy every1 left in the city is infected by a virus or some shit and can transform int monsters i think. one scene is that a good guy with a "alien suit" u know what reaserchers use so they dont get infected or whatever. but the suit fills up with some white shit u can see his face dissapears cus the white thru the glass. i think this happened when a monster did something to him idk its one fuckings long time i saw that movie.

  • @DonkymanCominAtYa Phantoms. I think.

  • @moloch1636 HOLY SHIT! i just watched the trailer and im pretty sure its the right one! just hope its as good as i remember it was! THANK U A MILLION TIMES!!!!! ^_^

  • generally, cult movies are just shitty movies

  • Before there was the MATRIX...there was Dark City

    Before INCEPTION...there was Dark City

Before ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE...there was Dark City

  • good film, own the PPV tape of it.

but it must be said......only 12 milion at the box office? holy damn.

  • Cult film

  • go & watch this movie

it's sooo old (or not that old)

but wow... what a sick atmosphere & thought about how this could all end up being it's just somethingu gotta see for youself. don't hesitate! I just saw it and it's more than worth watching! see for yourself, don't miss out on this

  • Just the trailer has blown my mind, I think for my own safety I wont watch this movie.

  • This movie cools cool im dl it.

  • Had a really hard time taking Kiefer Sutherland serious, when... hhhe talkss... like.. this...

    But awesome movie anyways :)

  • Jack Bauer THE MAN OF THE HOUR... or is this Dr. Bauer?

  • Just watched it, not a coincedence

  • Really great film. Rufus Sewell, Jennifer Connelly, Kiefer Sutherland, William Hurt were great. The 90's had so many overlooked & underrated SCI-FI films - this one, FutureSport, The Time Shifters, Virtuosity, Tha Lawnmower Man, Alien 3, Space Truckers, Strange Days, The Arrival, Mimic, The Apocalypse (1997), Virus, RoboCop 2, Them, Body Snatchers, eXistenZ, Sphere, Judge Dredd, Demolition Man, Anaconda, The Shadow Men etc

  • @Magnolia296 Most of these are shit...

  • This movie is great! I know a lot of people say that this movie reminds them of The Matrix and vice versa, but to me, it reminds me more of Jean Pierre Jeunet's City of Lost Children with Ron Perlman. Both great movies.

  • the 53 people who don't like this trailer don't know how to tune.

  • awesome trailer, i used 2 tell everybody i knew about this. saw the preview at the cinemas then on vhs after wedding singer :P mustve watched it 3 hundred times. downloaded the track a while ago. thumpin the darkness!

  • I remember this trailer from the mortal kombat movie vcr tapes haha

  • makes a cool movie even cooler, Love the movie never seen the trailer, and voila what a surprise thriller trailer.

  • look at it like this if i wasent on hear all the time i might be i dont no where i would be cause befoure no one would talk to me but says that i was nice to be around but no one was ever around me i was even there? and when i wasent on this more people thought i was crazy and this is the crazyest thing i have ever done im nothing like you would ecspect i look one way and am completely different but always me.

  • If you liked The Matrix, if you liked Inception, if you liked The Thirteenth Floor, you will LOVE Dark City (Director's Cut). I love all four of those movies. Dark City came out first (1998), BEFORE The Matrix (1999), BEFORE Inception (2010) & BEFORE The Thirteenth Floor (1999).

  • Comment removed

  • Nevermind the trailer gives it away I think

  • U want more try classic scifi like soylent green logans run future world and west world tv show the twilight zone x files tv show and movies fringe on tv these days its like x files just ask for scifi buff friends recomendations lots of great scifi out there he he enjoy

  • I am an avid fan of The Matrix series, and through some coincidence I've finally found this trailer..it looks very interesting indeed, especially for a person who love themes such as alternate-reality, philosophy, religious, cyberpunk, and basically just mind-shattering story that can have deep powerful effects into our so-called "Real World"! ah, and not to mention all those cool CG special effects!

tell me honestly: is this really worth watching, even perhaps more so than The Matrix?

  • @nikiwonoto Trust me it is worth watching. I have both the VHS and the DVD. Watch the movie at night. Also watch "The Truman Show".

  • @nikiwonoto dude, honestly, is a great movie, worth each second to watch, many people said than this movie is better than Matrix, but you must to see it to have your own opinion, so, go ahead, watch it!!!
