I still have my 'Best of Sam Cooke" album with jacket intact and in good shape. He was one of the few who completed for the record dollar in Canada in the summer of 1964 against the Beatles and held his own. A great talent.

I think gay in this song was intentional double entendre- especially paired with a verse about an "Old queen." "Old Queen" was a fighting term at least 65 years before this song came out. either the lyricist was unusually innocent, or was having a laugh.

Love it, love it, love it! I always laugh at the part about the fellow in blue jeans dancin' with the "older queen."  Not sure if it means what I think, but I get a kick over my mental visual. This song is so happy and free spirited, showing Sam's versatility as a writer and performer, as he has been known to sing in support of equal rights. I think he's simply one of the best of the very best and we're blessed to have had him.
