The word "lobbyist" has a pretty bad connotation, but not all lobbying is bad. Some of the lobbyist on this team lobbied for stuff like "tobacco free kids, national education association, Hispanic rights, etc."

As for the troops, It's good that he didn't pull them out the very first day. It would be irresponsible, because the whole demobing would be chaotic. The key military officials would have to create a concise mission for an exist strategy first.

It's not always a bad thing to do something you said you wouldn't do. A prime example where changing your strategy is FRD, when he reluctantly went against focusing on balancing budget and emphasized deficit spending (which is bascially Obama's Stimulus plan in a nutshell.) That revived the economy and brought America out of depression with his "New Deal."
