  • yeah, spinning the disc lets the heads rise above the discs and therefore there isn't that lo-fi scratchy sound :3

  • where did you connect the wires?

  • You need to make a stepper controller to spin the disk for you.

  • How do You make it?

  • After taking the top off the hard drive I traced back the wires going to the coil on the arm and conected the speaker wires to them.

  • I never thought YT would get a copyright on music filtered thru a hard drive speaker. but I will say that is very clear audio, much better than mine. Fking scary b/c i have HDD speaker videos with music in them. 3:40 nice song I like that one, I liked the killers mr brightside song you played earlier.

  • this is the stupidest shit ever, like 4real just fuckin buy a speaker, the least it could cost is $20

  • I think you're missing the entire point here

  • the point of these videos is showing that you can play music thru a hard drive and also because its cool.

  • @spanishkg123 Point of this video is to show people that it IS possible to use a hard drive as a speaker.. We all already know we can get a speaker for atleast 20 bucks, why buy a speaker when you can make one out of trash laying around the house? you have no idea why he made this video, do you? hehe

  • 106.5? The End? You must live in NC. I listen to 106.5 all the time.

  • Is it cannon? (the camera XD)

  • th camera used to record this was a Kodak Easyshare

  • It's a maxtor

  • It's not a Maxtor. It's a Micropolis Mustang 4GB hard drive.

  • why this tuck of i had no idea.

  • i did this, except i hooked up the sub signal to a big HDD and the nonbass signals to a laptop drive. awesome.

  • I got grounded for doing this to my dads 1TB hard drive thanks alot!! lol jk...

  • LOL you did it witha 1TB whoops

  • it do it to a 1 gig or a 4 gig but it doesnt really matter just use a crappy or nonworking drive. BTW i did this too theres some videos on my channel of it and my HD speaker is an old seagate 1250Mb drive.

  • i made one and he is right spinning it makes it sound better so i took a motor out of a old remote comtrol car and rigged it to spin the disk and the faster the better i made mine sound better than my speakers BUT it is mono so sound quality is good but not stereo quality =[

  • Haha I guess you need a second harddrive to make it stereo.. If only I hadn't thrown out all of my old junkdrives below 10gb

  • Cool.

  • haha good song the killers Mr. Brightside

  • Cool. I've tried this with only partical success using my computer's HD. Is the re-installing of the so used HD back in my computer without the cover possible (because i misplaced it) or do i need to place the cover back on top for proper operation?

  • The hard drive will run for about an hour with no cover but then it will die because the dust gets on the platters in the drive and ruin them. I doubt that the drive will work anyway after using it as a speaker.

  • I will trade you new speakers for your old HD.

  • why? speakers are only 10 bucks why in hell would I use a HD that cost more? not logical and the sound is mono. dont try this at home.

  • The HD did not cost me anything, I found it in a box of used computer parts that someone was giving away. It didnt work when I got it so it wasnt even a waste of a decent HD.

  • Why? Because it's an interesting project. C'mon, you'd probably want to try it, too.

Besides, it's a novelty. How many people do you see using hard-drives as speakers?

  • If someone knows where to connect the wires to the hard drive message me please

  • There is a copper coil on one end of the arm. Find where the two ends of the coil wire are connected to the flexable plastic cable that connects the arm th circuitry of the hard drive and attach the speaker wire there. Good Luck!

  • yea, this works, but its also easy to use the pins on the bottom of the drive, if you take off the logic board (its not needed) you will see a grid of pins. its normally the 2 on either the bottom or top of the row, plus you can connect them on the bottom this way to their out of sight!

  • I used 1 of the pins on the bottom and 1 on top becuase the two wires kept shorting together when I had the both on the bottom. It blew 2 fuses in my stereo by doing that.

I accidently removed your other comment about using the motor to make it spin. The only way I have found to do that is by pluging it up to a computer power supply. The motor is a stepper motor which must be controlled by the circuitry in the drive. Applying power to two leads of the motor will not work.

  • yea but if you conect the 12v directly to the 2 wires coming out of the motor it will work you'l probably have to some un-welding

  • Sona thats how I have my HD speaker hooked up via those 2 pins I soldered wires to there

  • this works better with rap music tghbenz99 put on a rap station or something with lots of bass

  • see, i thought it would sound better.

  • It sounds better in person. The camera I used to film it does not do sound well.

  • rewire it to spin the hd.also try using an amp to increse the bass(i sudjest a mcoy amp with baseboost, they cost about $60-$80(for good ones from ebay or you could make one yourself for about $30.)

  • it sounds better than my piece o crap camera check out some of my videos and youll understand what i mean lol

  • how do u make one?

  • wow, thats neat, I'm making one right now! Also, you have good radio around you...

  • cool =) im gonna make one
