I did this with a 1:55 video; first x occurs at 40 sec, second one at 55 sec, last x at 1:25 sec. that's probably where you got your dislikes.

10sec / 4 = 2,5 sec = X

X = Thumbnail 1

X*2 = 5 sec = Thumbnail 2

X*3 = 7,5 sec = Thumbnail 3

My youtube thumbnails are always total shit and I'm sure it affects who watches my videos. I fucking hate it. They need to fix that shit, or give us like 10 thumbnail options instead of 3. 95% of the time I'm making a weird face or in the middle of talking in all 3 of the thumbnail options.

I don't see why only partners can have custom thumbnails, you don't even know them. And if you can't use a custom thumbnail, most likely you won't get "famous" and without being known, your youtube partners application will be denied for the lack of views you will have.

YouTube allows (some) partner channels to use a featured called custom thumbnail, which allows you to upload any picture you want to use as a thumbnail for the video. The formula discussed in this video no longer works, as YouTube has changed its algorithm. Probably these are no longer fixed positions, but positions chosen on some dynamic variable (e.g. x frames from a major scene change).

In order to become a partner on YouTube only one thing helps - go out and create some fine content...!
