Michael always seemed to me the most amiable and friendly of the group, the one that freely associated with all the other pythons and tried to make them a team rather than separate comics all pulling in different directions. I also think this is why they all have nothing but good to say about him and is a testament to his importance to Monty Python.
Genuinely, this is sort of a silly observation, but I find it fascinating and so neat how gently the Pythons talk about Michael. Even when they do say anything 'negative' about him, they qualify it and surround it with compliments - like they say his writing benefitted from a bit of the edge provided by the others, but that what he does to the writing is to make it dance. With the others, they'll speak about each other's flaws and foibles, but with him they're so soft.
I find Michael to be a sort of middle-man in Python. The two Terrys pulled them in the visual/conceptional direction, while John, Graham and Eric were mostly verbal and hung up on logic. He was probably the compromise guy, which I guess is why he always ended up having by far the most parts in their shows and movies.

Good Lord this is adorable. I love that even such, erm, painfully honest no-holds-barred Pythons just think Michael is a sweetheart.

Michael was the nicest Python...Eric was the sixth-nicest. And here we see why!

@Sylderon I agree. Although I only met Michael Palin from the all the team. He was a gent. Only a gent.

@KenFromBeara Disagreed. I once met Michael Palin, and all he told me was to fuck off.

It's easy to see why he's the best-liked Python.
