Bob Symes to me is one of the most recognised characters of model railways,is TV series in the mid 70s was fantastic program to watch on a Saturday morning the models were captivating to a boy of seven years old.I dreamt about having a model railway one day just like the ones on his program, its taken nearly 30 odd years to achieve this thou, still every time I see him on YouTube I think back to those lost boyhood years of 1976.How the world has changed.
What a great character that Bob Symes is! TV needs more people like him instead of the plastic blow-up zero-personality jerkoid types we get these days.
Bob Symes, what a character, shame we dont see him on telly anymore like we did in the 80's,this country needs Bob Symes again,to get more people building model railways and getting involved in the hobby more.
@silver760 I don't know about 80's. The last time I saw him on TV was during the mid 70's. One episode I recall was about radio control sail boats and another I recall was about miniature lead soldiers on some kind of realistic looking battle field. A guy was using an odd looking wooden stick similar to a golf club to strategically move them from one location to another. I was about 6 years old at that time. Bob's show infuenced me toward things in miniature, definitely steam trains.
Bob Symes has a Channel on YouTube called "BobSymes's Channel" funnily enough...Check it out.
He also did some railway programmes in German which I saw on Bahn TV which used to broadcast on Hotbird 13 but is now available as an internet TV station...Just Google it to find it.
Too right, a childhood hero, why can't we see Model World again somwhere like UKTV Gold? It's great to see someone like Mr Symes for whom life is just not long enough. We love you Bob!

Bob is a very interesting chap and I've had the pleasure of having him round for dinner a couple of times.
He's half Austrian and has some excellent warimte stories.
