since you've been up norcal way, I recommend Silver Lake on state highway 88 for two very nice falls that I haven't seen in any map or guidebook. One's above the on it's main tributary. The lake outlets into a fork of the American River. There's a hydro station and 3/4 mile later the other, slightly more spectcular falls.
Directions fom Sacremento on I-80 for 40 miles to Weimar Crossroad exit, Take that exit, turn South on Canyon Way (it becomes Ponderosa Way after a short distance), and drive 5.5 Miles (the road becomes dirt) to a bridge at the American River. Park near the bridge and pick up the trail on the north side of the river heading downstream past the beach area. Hike 1.2 Miles to a trail on your right follow that to its end at Codfish Falls.
Come in from Foresthill Rd, Southern approach... much easier road, not as steep.
